re: Tata Altroz DCT Automatic, now launched at Rs. 8.09 lakh

Altroz 1.2 NA DCT retails for the same price as the Altroz turbo diesel, variant by variant.

I think it is decent pricing. To buy a DCT top end for 11.2 lakhs on road is good value, if you don't care much about performance.

The DCT is almost 1 lakhs more than manual. The other DCT, i20 is still very expensive. This gearbox will have to brilliant for it to succeed.

Tata Altroz DCT Automatic launched at Rs 8.09 lakh

Tata has launched Altroz DCT at starting price of Rs. 8.09 Lakhs. Good price IMHO.

The new 7-speed dual clutch (wet) gearbox is being offered only with the 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine, which produces 86hp and 113Nm of peak torque – identical to its manual counterpart. However, it is about 20kg heavier than the manual versions. There are also no paddle shifters like you’d find on the Hyundai i20 N Line variants, although you do get a manual mode with the gear lever itself. Notably, the DCT gearbox on the Altroz comes with shift-by-wire technology.

Initially, the DCT gearbox was set to be introduced with the more powerful 110hp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine on the Altroz. Tata Motors even carried out tests for the turbo-DCT variant, although it was proving to be too expensive for our market. While the Altroz turbo-DCT could have been an even match against the Hyundai i20 DCT, its prices would likely have been a put off. The diesel engine on the Altroz also continues to be manual only.

re: Tata Altroz DCT Automatic launched at Rs 8.09 lakh

6 speeds on the automatic should provide a much better spread of torque compared to the 5 speed manual. Eagerly awaiting the initial driving impressions. The wet clutch means this should be far more reliable and abuse friendly than the VW and Hyundai dry clutch systems.

re: Tata Altroz DCT Automatic, now launched at Rs. 8.09 lakh

Looking at the list of improvements they seem to have done onto the gearbox, one can hope it actually performs decently well and remains reliable in the long run.
A reliable automatic for a city-oriented engine is also worth it to a lot of people as long as it helps them free one leg. Most consumers might not bother with it being a DCT or a TC.
One does wish though that this should have come with the iTurbo which unfortunately would have sent it to i20 DCT territory wherein I am not sure if anyone would choose the Altroz, considering the amount of features the i20 offers.

Any confirmation on other improvements in features like rumored bigger ICE screen?

EDIT:
While browsing through their official website one image shows apparently bigger ICE scrren.
BUT sadly the feature-list state contrary to the image i.e. Altroz continues to use the current 7 inch screen.

The size is the same at 7", not sure if they have made any improvements on the screen itself.

re: Tata Altroz DCT Automatic, now launched at Rs. 8.09 lakh

May be this makes it a perfect city hatch with a smooth dct(hope it is smooth and niggle free). In cities like Mumbai and Pune, with high number of speed cams coming up every other day on arterial roads, terrible traffic and enforcement of 60-80kmph speed limits 0-100 timing is the last thing for many buyers, but yes a better transmission goes just that one step ahead in providing a better driving experience.
I am not a technical guy so I have this question, does/can a better transmission setup itself lead to, or help in slightly/marginal better performance from same engine?

re: Tata Altroz DCT Automatic, now launched at Rs. 8.09 lakh

There is no excuse for not giving DCA in turbo variant as the difference Tata is asking for DCA over manual variant is only ₹1 lakh. Very much disappointed. Hope they rectify this and launch in Turbo version also.

Can someone please shed light on the vfm part of Altroz, is it a good decision to get the DCA in the top model?

The launch price may not seem wow since people expect Tata cars to be priced well, but IMHO it is awesome It is almost a grand 2L cheaper than the next available DCT (i20 Sports Turbo DCT).

If we discount the Datson Go twins, it is the cheapest proper automatic option in the market now (although only by a whisker). Although I am fine with AMT tech considering their utility and price, for people who keep bashing AMTs, the cheapest pure autobox options are-

1. Tata Altroz XMA DCT - 8.10L, 5 star safety
2. Honda Amaze S CVT - 8.12L , 4 star safety
3. Nissan Magnite XL Turbo CVT - 8.56L, 4 star safety

Nissan Magnite is on another level on the value for money scale! Honda's 1.2 CVT, although a time-tested option, is not really a car enthusiasts first choice. Yes, the turbo will be sorely missed, but with the wet clutch DCA tech, I do believe Tata have an ace up their sleeve!

re: Tata Altroz DCT Automatic, now launched at Rs. 8.09 lakh

Good pricing by Tata, roughly a lakh above the manual variant. Considering Tata charges roughly 60k for the AMT, for an additional 40k one gets a smoother, faster shifting, and efficient (7 gears) gearbox.

There seem to be a lot of nice things about the gearbox - wet clutch, less moving parts, machine-learning based adaptation, auto park lock, self healing. Hopefully this DCT from Punch Powertrain remains more reliable than the dry clutch DCTs that are currently available from other manufacturers. Tata seems to have done the homework.

The DCA is launched with the 1.2 NA only to keep the pricing below 10 lakhs during launch. It is only a matter of time the same DCA is used in Altroz and Nexon turbo petrol (and Altroz turbo diesel).

If you are considering Altroz DCA top-end, I would strongly suggest you to also look into Magnite Turbo CVT top-end priced at 9.99L as it offers even more features including ESC safety feature which Tata has decided to offer only on the Nexon and above and not on Altroz/Punch. However, Magnite is one star lesser than Altroz in the GNCAP rating, but you can take your call whether you want 4* + ESC or 5* without ESC.
