In 2021, Kia's Anantapur facility contributed 8% of the brand's total global output. This is expected to increase to 9.5% or almost 3 - 3.5 lakh units this year.

Last year, India was among the fastest-growing markets for Kia. It is said that the carmaker expects sales to grow at almost 33% to 2,43,000 units in 2022.

With the launch of the Carens, Kia now has four models on offer in India. According to the company's vice president of sales and marketing, Hardeep Singh Brar, the company is witnessing huge demand for made-in-India vehicles in the domestic as well as international markets.

Kia has started the 3rd shift at its Anantpur plant taking it's annual production to 3 lakh units. This will help in decreasing the waiting period.

3 lakh = 25,000 units / month. 3.5 lakhs = approximately 30,000 / month which will make it a fight to watch with Tata Motors for the podium position (no.3).

With an excellent product range, Tata & Kia are both on a roll. As they say, in the auto industry, there is no problem that a good car cannot solve. Just look at Kia's lineup = the well-priced & spacious Carens, the competent Sonet, the luxurious Carnival & the all-rounder Seltos (safety aside).

While Maruti & Hyundai are strongly entrenched in the 1 & 2 positions, Kia & Tata will make it difficult for them, as well as the mid-pack car companies like Honda, Renault, Toyota. There is no doubt that Kia & Tata are taking thousands of sales away from brands above them & below.

God bless competition . Fierce battles only make things better for us customers.

GTO - I believe Tata Motors has the edge here.

Because for Kia, I believe the production numbers are inclusive of the exports. If you look at 2021 numbers, Kia sold 2.25 Lakhs vehicles in India and exported 46,000 units in 2021.

So their domestic average is closer to 20,000 units per month and with Carens, I believe it will easily add 3000 units per month so this will bring it closer to 3 Lakhs. So their exports needs to be flat this year. At this point, the production will be saturated and will need expansion.

Interesting to note, that their expectation is 2.43 Lakhs units for domestic sales. Either they prioritize exports in which case there won't be any let up in the waiting periods (most likely) or they expected Carens only to be a modest hit

If we look at Tata motors numbers, they already average 30,000 units/per month. I guess there is a upcoming Altroz based Sedan coming. So they may firmly be at the No.3 spot.

But who knows? If Kia decides to fight with the 'Punch', anything can happen

While I agree with the rest of your post, I believe that the Carens will easily do 5000-6000 units a month by pulling in Triber, Ertiga/XL6, Seltos/Creta as well as Crysta customers depending on the variant. The Carens is an an excellent product and extremely VFM for the lower-middle variants. I am basing my reasoning on the assumption that there is a lot of demand for practical 7 seaters in the market right now.
