Re: Tata Motors dispatches beat Hyundai in December 2021 | Now the no.2 car maker in India

Cross posting from the Nexon review. A car in the top 5 for Tata!

Nexon is the top selling suv for Dec 2021

https://www.indiacarnews.com/news/ta...a-creta-50385/

Quote:
The company sold 12,899 units of the Nexon last month, recording a massive Year-on-Year growth of 88.7 percent. Tata had sold 6,835 units of the compact SUV in the same month last year.

What’s interesting is that the Tata Nexon is the fourth highest selling car in December 2021. Maruti Suzuki sold 19,729 units of the Wagon R, 15,661 units of the Swift and 14,458 units of the Baleno.

Do we think, Tata has gained the confidence from the customers which Hyundai has?
As GTO mentioned earlier, it is not the #2 position, but 35K sales is what makes it special for TATA.
Out of this, 2.5K sales are coming from EV sales. This is only going to increase. They can easily add Altroz, Punch etc. to EV lineup quite easily. Presently no other manufacturer is able to bring commercially viable volumes in EV sales in India.

Agree that the confidence factor is still not high, but people are willing to buy! Looks at the Harrier/Safari numbers even though there are numerous QC issues reported by customers!

Re: Tata Motors dispatches beat Hyundai in December 2021 | Now the no.2 car maker in India

This has been mentioned here before - that we are not really sure if Tata has a well-laid-out plan to introduce new models in 2022 and beyond.

It however seems worse for Hyundai.

If we leave Kia alone, the offerings by Hyundai have been woefully bland in 2021. The Alcazar has not cut it at all. I'm yet to see one on the road in Bangalore or Chennai. The i20 has been expensive, though it did sell somewhat. But the N line has been too overpriced to make a dent in terms of volumes. I know folks who went to buy an N-line DCT and cross-bought a Venue DCT instead. So what has Hyundai really done in 2021? Not really much.

Chip shortage aside, I think it's a combo of Hyundai not having much of a vision in 2021 and Tata having a spate of well-received models over the last two years that has brought Tata to where they are now. I hope they don't let the momentum slip.

As an ex owner of a TATA car, I'm happy for what they've has been able to achieve! But, hold on. Let's see if TATA can consistently hold the position of number 2 for few more months and then congratulate them for beating the odds!

Excellent feat of dispatches of more than 35K+ cars by TATA in December, 2021 and also taking the 2nd position. Big congratulations to them for achieving the volume. Becoming No 2 position on regular basis will take some time yet.

On another note, Nexon clocked 12899 units in December 2021 and turned-out No. 1 SUV for the month and only non-Maruti car in Top 5. This is amazing result. It makes me feel good as a Nexon owner.

EV sales touching almost 3K is awesome. This company was struggling to sell their cars few years ago and monthly sales were ~ 7000.

WOW!! 40,777 units in January, 2022. Great going TATA. I think this is first time they have crossed 40 K mark.

TATA clearly has advantage in EV segment. They need to capitalise on this one big time.

Would be interesting to see Hyundai numbers for January, 2022 as well.

Re: Tata Motors dispatches beat Hyundai in December 2021 | Now the no.2 car maker in India

Really great news, congratulations to Tata. I guess Hyundai's second spot is in danger now, not temporarily but permanently. Tata surely gaining pace and their product portfolio has capacity to do more. Increasing dealer footprint across India clearly showing results. Their experiments like dark theme cars pulling lots of people to their showrooms. On the other hand, Hyundai designs are getting more and more weird which are not accepted by many and are clearly struggling in the market. Hyundai mainly getting volumes from Creta and Venue whereas models like Santro, Ascent, Verna, Alcazar, etc. not selling much.

I really wish Tata should get Sumo back in new Avatar. It will definitely give them good volumes. Also people will get better option for Bolero, which is too old now. Hope Tata is listening.

Re: Tata Motors dispatches beat Hyundai in December 2021 | Now the no.2 car maker in India

Impressive numbers and consistent sales figures for Tata.
As owner of a Tata car, I'm happy to see these numbers but I'm afraid they have to supplement this with increasing/improving their after-sales & service capacity and experience.
I got my car serviced recently at TASS (6 years completed, ODO=57000kms). This is what I wrote in another related thread.

Quote:
It was very underwhelming experience. The service center was swamped with much more cars than they can handle. Doesn't help that their new lineup mostly have 6 months service intervals. They overlooked some items I told them to change specifically. Also delivered the car about 2 hours after promised delivery time. Overall 4/10.

Most likely not going back again in future. Search for a good FNG continues.

Also, in the last 6 years of servicing, I have never received a call from tata asking for feedback.

Hope Tata scales up their service to match their recent uptick in sales. Else they are looking at many unhappy owners who will be reluctant to upgrade within the tata family.

Re: Tata Motors dispatches beat Hyundai in December 2021 | Now the no.2 car maker in India

TATA Motors is back at Nr. 3, as Hyundai takes back the coveted Nr. 2 slot, but shows a decline of 15.4 %( domestic, Y-O-Y)

Quote:
Hyundai Motor India reported a 11.11 per cent decline in total sales at 53,427 units in January 2022.

The company said that domestic sales were down 15.35 per cent to 44,022 units last month as against 52,005 units in January 2021

Re: Tata Motors dispatches beat Hyundai in December 2021 | Now the no.2 car maker in India

Tata is back to #3 as per Jan 2022 sales numbers, but has crossed 40K sales for the first time in its history!
https://www.rushlane.com/tata-sales-...-12424835.html

With all the planned EV and CNG launches, TATA can easily add another 10K to their monthly sales.

It is just a matter of time before TATA gets into neck to neck competition with Hyundai every month.

Re: Tata Motors dispatches beat Hyundai in December 2021 | Now the no.2 car maker in India

Tata has gone leaps and bounds with cars like Nexon, Altroz, Safari etc. They have many small cars and mid size SUVs. However what is missing is proper 4WD full size Tata SUV. SUVs is a fashion now and more people want 4WD vehicles.
