Re: License Renewal

Hi guy, sorry if I am Hijacking this thread, couldn't find any other article regarding this.
I an looking to apply for an ev license which has a top speed of 70kmph. Since I'm 16 I am eligible to apply for this license. My main doubt is what type of category should I select in the parivahan website? When I tried to apply in the parivahan website the class of vehicles was automatically selected. So does that mean I can go and give my driving test with an electric scooter. Ps: The class that was selected is Motor Cycle Without Gear (MCWOG).
Thanks.

DL renewal process in Karnataka for original DL issued by RTO in Karnataka

Below is the process of applying for DL renewal for candidates in Bengaluru & my experience at RTO, Yeshwanthpur KA-04, for the benefit of other members of the tribe.

1. Apply for DL renewal at https://sarathi.parivahan.gov.in/sar...ServicesDet.do

2. Follow instructions, upload documents, fill out & submit online application form/s viz pay fee etc.. Please also upload a photograph in the specified dimensions in size 20 KB. For this purpose, you may use https://www.iloveimg.com/compress-image/compress-jpg to compress the file to the desired file size. In my case, I had a photograph in the dimensions required but much larger at about 40 KB. I was able to compress the file size to the required 20 KB using the above software tool.

3. Form 1 application-cum-declaration on physical fitness.

4. Form 2 application for DL renewal.

5. Form 1A medical certificate (may or may not be needed, discussed in detail below).

6. Please note that all of the above forms are prefilled, based on your old/existing DL and are available on the portal.

7. Inputs and data are also collected from your Aadhaar.

8. Your photograph, that shows on your DL will, in all probability, be obtained from your Aadhaar.

9. The medical certificate is usually required for candidates who have achieved 50 Years and above. And in that case, your DL will be issued with a validity of only 5 Years. In my case, my old DL, issued in September 2013, was due to expire on 20th November 2023, 1 day before I turned 50 on 21st November. I applied for renewal on 11th October 2023, the application was vetted on 07th November and approved on 08th November. My renewed DL was available for viewing and download on the DigiLocker App on 08th November. The system calculated my age as of DL expiry, 20th November, which was 49, and not 21st November. I, anyway, submitted Form 1A, on the safer side. Therefore, my DL is Valid for 10 Years, till 2033. Please take a printout of the pre-filled (pre-populated) Form 1A & get it signed by a doctor at the RTO. I do hope my understanding of how the system works is correct.

10. My DL Smartcard was ready for dispatch at the designated counter at the Yeshwanthpur RTO from 09th November. However, till 27th November the File did not move. I visited the RTO on 28th November & was informed by the official at the counter that they were facing a “Staff Shortage” and that was causing delays in dispatch. On 29th November, I got an SMS from the Vahan Portal that my DL had been dispatched by India Speedpost & was also given a tracking number. However, on keying in the tracking number, an error message “No Records Found” kept showing up. The status did not change till 08th December. However, on 09th December, the package was delivered. So again, there is no need to panic.

11. Parking – For the uninitiated, the Yeshwanthpur RTO is in a bustling market area, near the railway station with very little to no parking available in the vicinity. Parking is available on a “Pay & Park” basis within the RTO Premises; however, you have to leave the keys with the attendant. However, by the Grace of God, nothing untoward happened on both occasions. I was aware of this & and, therefore, emptied out the contents of my car, at home, before heading out to the RTO. You may consider 2 options for parking: park in the vicinity of MES College or thereabouts & walk to the RTO Or park at the next-door BMTC centre, which is where we have the public TV news channel office. I speak from personal experience as I used to visit the PT office located on the 10th floor of this building till just a few years ago to file our company’s monthly PT returns & used to park there. It is a multi-level parking facility on “Pay & Park” but the keys remain with you.

Hope the above information is useful.

Re: License Renewal

I am waiting to receive my RC card by post (vehicle purchased in Mysore last month). The RC card is already allocated and visible in digilocker.

I got SMS that it has been posted, with tracking number of Indiapost, starting with TA, i.e.
TA15716xxxxIN.

But I am unable to search the status of this tracking number in Indiapost site.

Anyone who purchased car recently, what is your experience?

Same here. Got my car delivered on 4th Oct. Registration is from 3rd Oct. On parivahan site and app could see RC FROM 5th Oct onwards. RC was printed on 6th Nov. Nothing moved for another one month. Got an sms from VAHAN that RC has been dispatched on 6th Dec, tracking ID was given in sms. Till now speed post site says consignment details not found. Contacted my SA at dealer on 11th Dec, he mentioned that most of these tracking ids etc are generated in bulk. He said that wait for another week or so before you get RC.

I am from Mumbai, My car registration was approved in a day and RC was delivered in a week. This was during Diwali week.
If you get a tracking message that means RTO created pickup for the post, unless the post is picked up and brought into their center for scan it won't show in tracking.

I eventually got my RC through Indiapost's speedpost.

It is part of process flow when they do bulk processing. So the first message with tracking number was from RTO. Tracking number is preallocated but actual consignment is not available to Indiapost And then only after 2 weeks or so, Indiapost sent messages of actual handling of the package. And only then one can track it.

Re: License Renewal

Its time to renew my license. I missed doing it before expiry.

People from Bangalore, please confirm if we have to visit the RTO in person even after submitting the requested documents (doctor signed Form 1A & DL) online & paying the fees?

I think there is a grace period after expiry. If you are renewing within this period, then the process should be similar to before expiry.

I recently renewed my DL in Udupi. Here in spite of providing all the required documents online, I had to finally visit the RTO. All I had to do was take a print out of the application form and submit, a completely redundant step and waste of time. So in my view this depends on the RTO whether you are required to visit or not. If you are lucky, you will not have to visit.

Re: License Renewal

Requesting expert advise (Telangana folks)

My driving license was originally issued in undivided AP (AP28) which is Rangareddy.
Its time for renewal, and the digilocker version showed the number as TS07.
So, happily applied for renewal through T-App (Telangana govt app)
It accepted the application and was "in processing" for long and finally got rejected saying "not part of this office"

Finally approached an agent and he fished the license and apparently its part of Kukatpally now. I am unable to reapply or do anything from the app.
The agent do not know what to do as well.

Any clue of how this can be fixed ?

Per my understanding, there is a Grace Period of almost 1 Year from the Date of Expiry of the DL. Therefore, the Process should remain the same, Online Submission of Documents with No visits to the RTO , as pointed out by another Member.

If it is before 30 days of expiry, it should be smooth. After 1 month, before 1 year it can be done without driving test, and after 1 year upto 5 years most states allow it with driving test on paper, but need to see the fine print.
Check No.9 of second link

But if its more than a month, expect a visit.

Expired 10 days ago. Have 20 more days for the grace period. Went to RTO office, the agents sitting there, claimed 460 is the fees, 150 for the doctor and 250 as their charge to upload it. But their servers are down they claimed. I was not able to find the RTO doctor either.

Going again now just to meet the doctor (available only during the first half) and get the Form 1A signed and I will upload it myself.

BTW, the BBMP hospital doctor rejected doing it saying it should be done at a bigger hospital with detailed medical test & it cannot be done by her in her PHC, in spite of me telling her such detailed testing is not required.

Not sure what is the process now, if they are still insisting on govt doctor.
Few years ago, when the rule was that it need to be signed by govt doctor, (KA03 was at Indiranagar) got it done at CV Raman hospital. This is near Swami Vivekananda metro station. No "detailed test" just 100 bucks at that time to attender and he would let you in to have signed by doctor.

Re: License Renewal

Pardon me if this question is answered already, I just browsed last few pages and I was happy to see that DL renewal can be done entirely online.

So I started the online application and got to the stage till Aadhaar authentication. Now I see that there could be a mismatch of name and address, so wanted to check here first before if I proceed further.
Is there a option to update name (aadhaar has fullname vs initials in DL) and address ( totally different between aadhaar and DL) in the subsequent screens or do I need to select change address and change name applications first and then go for DL renewal app or can I submit everything together?
btw, this is for KA03, but due to address change I will have to select KA53 now.

Adding another question - other option in the screen is "Submit without Aadhaar authentication" . Couldnt find anything in user manual about this. Any idea, what does it do ? Can I retain the same details as current DL and still proceed with online application or does it require a visit to RTO ?

Re: License Renewal

Hello friends,

it's time again for my driving license renewal. This time it's a bit more complex: I need to also change the existing address to my current address which is about 600 kms away (both in WB). The problem is, I can't go to my old RTO for renewal. Thankfully, according to the Sarathi website, an NOC is not required.

The old address is still valid, and is the same as that on my Aadhaar card. I do have address proofs for my present address as well (voter ID, electricity bill etc.), -- would that suffice?

I could try renewing it online, but need to submit the medical certificate (Form 1-A), and I suspect I need to run to the RTO, or get some agent's help in finding a doctor acceptable to the RTO. I could go through my brother's driving school for this, but they are located ~50 kms away from my current address. Does it matter? What do the rules say now, -- must I choose the RTO closest to my current address, or any will do? My current Pincode didn't yield any relevant RTO at the Sarathi website and they asked me to pick one from a list. Can I pick one that is not the closest to my address?

I believe I do already have the data in place for a Smartcard, so that might simplify things a bit. I vaguely remember having my fingerprint captured, and paying for a Smartcard last time (when the backlog related work was done), but they were not ready yet for issuing one, and issued me a laminated print instead with a QR code on it. My license image on Sarathi shows a chip on it!

So I should be able to have my license renewed from a different RTO in the same state (WB) without too many issues, right? Any potential problems I should anticipate? Thanks in advance for any help.
