re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2021 | EDIT, it's the Mahindra XUV700

Interestingly there is no mention of Mahindra Thar. I believe that beauty is selling like hot cakes. Also, I see Volvo and Merc here but no BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine, which was launched earlier this year.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2021 | EDIT, it's the Mahindra XUV700

I had voted for XUV700 basis the interest it had created in the prospects & non prospects looking in to the SUV segment. I had personally Test Drove the vehicle for few of my friends who had booked the vehicles and enjoyed rhe drive (I am more a fan of Sedans). Though the longer waiting periods could have been better managed, I still see this as the superior offering in the lot, in terms of Price Range and number of variants.

Tata Punch - 1) Perfect safe and comfortable car for economy class.
2) Ingress and Egress is very good for senior citizens

Note: I do not have provision to vote. so just gave my views.

I feel that Mahindra has come a long way with XUV700. They have packed everything in it and really has stood out from the competition in terms of all important aspects for that segment. My vote indeed goes to XUV700

Voted for the XUV 700 because this is one vehicle that is trying to bridge the void that exists between full blown SUVs and the compact SUVs. It has very impressive tech on offer all round.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2021 | EDIT, it's the Mahindra XUV700

One of the most lopsided votes I can remember in Team BHP for Car of the Year.
This has been a revolutionary product with varied engine options and suits for every price bracket.
Rare product these days and a lesson to all OEMs on how to make a product bang on.
Only thing to see how the deliveries are being handled and long run reliability.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2021 | EDIT, it's the Mahindra XUV700

The Kushaq fits my use case perfectly and that's why I've booked it. However, I agree with the majority that the XUV700 is the COTY 2021.

On a side note, considering the VW-Skoda twins are on the same platform and almost similar, do we consider then as one car and combine the scores to bring them to a close 3rd?

Has to be the XUV700. In India Mahindra has been at the forefront of Research in Safety and Innovation. This car reflects all of leaps that Mahindra has taken as a Brand.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2021 | EDIT, it's the Mahindra XUV700

Wow! It sure feels weird picking the wrong answer despite knowing what the right answer is. But what the hell, I'm still gonna do it! But before I blurt it out, few thoughts -

1. Skoda's Vision IN concept looked really promising and I honestly thought it would shake the hottest segment in the Indian Car market right now. Who knows if the company had spent a few more months ironing out the issues before launch, they might just have walked away with the COTY 2022 for the Kushaq! But I guess that wasn't meant to be.

2. Coming back to the COTY2021( no points for guessing which one is it ) - I don't feel so confident voting for the XUV700, as I felt for say the Seltos in 2019. Just like the Seltos, the XUV700 looks tremendous value for the money. Although safety, the Achilles heel of the Seltos, is not a concern here, I still feel with the amount of tech that Mahindra have stuffed into the XUV700, reliability might be. To be clear, I would be more than happy if Mahindra pull this off. But they clearly have skipped a few evolution cycles here and I wonder if they have spent enough time testing all the tech they have put into the car.

So that brings us to the car I voted for! Well the Renault Kiger probably doesn't even figure in the top 5 (honestly I didn't even care to check) but a few pats on the back of Renault, for the reasons discussed over and over again on this forum -

1. Decent engine and gearbox combo with the 1.0L Turbo+CVT automatic for around 10 Lac OTR. This is even more relevant in view of the visible shift of the India car buyers towards Automatics.

2. Decent perceived safety with the Triber having tested 4 stars in GNCAP.

3. Although Nissan have already stolen some of the the Kiger's thunder with the Magnite last year, Renault have always seemed more likely to persist in the Indian market.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2021 | EDIT, it's the Mahindra XUV700

Voted for XUV700. One of the few cars built grounds up this year and is packed to hilt. Introductory prices make is VFM. What we missed actually the Ford version of this one. That would have been a stonker. Would have looked better and driven better. But Mahindra and Ford decided to part ways after a promising affair. Hope unlike the Safari/Harrier twins this one is a sorted and not a half baked one.

Had the Safari been a sorted vehicle from day one along with an option of 4*4 my vote would have been for the Safari. With Land Rover pedigree it had all the underpinnings to become a great vehicle but trust Tata to goof up royally.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2021 | EDIT, it's the Mahindra XUV700

This type of voting where not only those who have driven the vehicles under consideration vote but others too, who without any personal experience, depend on the inputs from other, has great limitations and would not exactly reflect the general opinion and the true qualities of the vehicles.
That said, I have opted for Gurkha, though haven't driven any of the vehicles. My reasons are first of the all the commitment shown by the manufacturer so far in responding to the owners doubts/problems/ needs in the ownership of the vehicle so far.
Secondly the vehicle in its intended category of hard core 4 into 4 machine, has not only outdone its core job but infact has done better than Thar as a life style vehicle in terms of its ride and handling on the road, space inside and the massive presence. It has shown vast improvement over its predecessor in every department. It's weakness on paper at least are its only one engine with 90 bhp, quality of material inside which is still not up to the speed and sparse service network. Only thing which is stopping me from going for it is its fixed
Rear Seats, little eccentric back door entry and the cruising speed of 90 kms/hr.

Voted for the Mahindra XUV700.

It definitely is a great all rounder especially for the Indian market. I do wish they would provide the top level trim without ADAS as well as it wont be very practical for our roads driving style.

Force Gurkha

- For the commitment from the manufacturer
- It seems a huge improvement from its predecessor
- These focused vehicles need our love and appreciation
