NOTES:

1: Thanks to the team at Auto Punditz for sharing these sales numbers with us!

2: Only cars that sell 500+ units (and thus, the relevant ones) have been included in the gainers & losers chart.

3. These manufacturer-reported sales numbers are factory dispatches to dealerships. They are NOT retail sales figures to end customers.

Thread moved out from the Assembly Line.

Thank you! Was waiting for this thread for numbers of Polo.

Few observations:

Right! Same question, thankfully no KUV100 buyers.

The most expected thread.

1. Wagon R climbs to No 1 spot
2. i20 beats Altroz by a big margin
3. Both Punch and Celerio marked decent sales
4. who on earth is buying that Verito/Vibe
5. Kushaq, Taigun & Astor can make better. Shows the importance of presence in Tier 2 & 3 cities
6. WRV is now a gone case. Honda has to bring its CSUV more faster than they think.

Fight for #1 position in Indian passenger vehicle market has intensified. Four products from Maruti’s stable appear edging towards photo-finish. Maruti’s semiconductor distribution decision among its products in December 2021, will decide the winner of 2021.

Interesting to see that the Indian buyers are moving towards relatively more expensive hatchbacks like Swift or Baleno, than yesteryear entry level hatchbacks like Wagon-R or Alto. This change is more pronounced during COVID period, when need is driven by urgency of having personal mobility.

Who is buying Scorpio? I hardly spot Scorpio in my city but can see 5-10 new Thar every time I go out.

Honda: How long will WR-V and Honda Jazz hold the fort? Numbers are going down.

VW/Skoda: Wow, just 1 T-Roc. Taigun numbers are good as compared to Kushaq. It would be interesting to see where it settles.

MG Hector numbers are split between Hector and Astor? or is just that due to limited production capacity, Astor was given preference?

Pleasantly surprised to see the sales figures of Alturas. The rumor is that Mahindra will stop assembling the Korean CKD. Also noted the dip in MG Gloster stats.

Like Latheesh has said, I too don't remember seeing a brand new Scorpio since ages and I drive 500+ kms per week across two south Kerala districts. Really baffled.

Vibe: lol: could be some single-point institutional / organizational buying.

Come drive around in Tier 2/3 cities up North and count the number of white Scorpios :)

Many Govt departments also buy the Scorpio now as part of their official fleet.

What on earth is Mahindra doing with Thar and XUV700? Such a huge backlog of booking and hardly 3000 vehicles each! Chip shortage to blame?

Citroen will be happy for the first time since the launch of the C5 Aircross, that they were able to touch a century, even after increasing prices!

Seems like MG Motors had to cut down the production of the Hector by 1000 to produce the same number of Astors.

Honda India is the new Nissan, they need to pull up their socks, otherwise they are the next ones after Ford to pull out of India!

Like Toyota has so many SUVs in the international market, so does Honda. Well okay costs will be high to bring them into the market. But then why not atleast bring the HR-V which can give stiff competition to the Creta/Seltos. HR-V will truly be their success story if brought, like the City was 20 years back!

And how can they not be able to fit either the 1.5L i-VTEC or an automatic in even one engine for the WR-V is beyond my imagination. You have the platform, you have the transmission, you have the engine, you have the body shell, what’s stopping them?

Meanwhile Toyota is busy laughing to the bank, have deleted a few features from the Fortuner, increased prices, and the nearest competitor the MG Gloster is sitting at 100-200 units a month. Ever since Ford left India the number of people buying the Fortuner Legender has gone up tremendously, YouTube is filled with videos of people taking deliveries. And the Innova even after the advent of the Safari, Hector, XUV700 (okay production constraints), Harrier, Alcazar, etc were touted to take sales of the Innova many times, I don’t see any of that happening!

Toyota sold an astonishing 6300 units of a 23L car in MPV segment while Mahindra sold 99 units in the same. Unreal. That is some mind boggling loyalty and unprecedented reputation for Toyota.
