Re: Skoda Slavia | A Close Look & Preview

Hope they haven't carried over the severe cost cutting from the Kushaq into this. The Kushaq review thread is pretty much just a litany of complaints about the shoddy craftsmanship and penny pinching resulting in a very poor customer experience.

Re: Skoda Slavia | A Close Look & Preview

Below factors are key to the pricing -

1. Already released and positioned Kushaq now from 11 to 18 Lakhs Ex-showroom Pan India even though it is not setting the sales chart on fire. From the pictures, it is clear so many parts are being shared with Kushaq which should allow a lot of room to price it lower.

2. Sedan segment has shrunk the most in India YoY. If it is a growing segment, they can hope for growth with high prices. Now in a shrinking segment, they have to wean away customers from the same pie or pull from other segments. Unless there is a sticker shock at least with 1.0 TSI, Skoda cannot revive this segment or reverse the exodus to Cross overs.

3. 1.5 TSI may be placed in premium and closer to Kushaq 1.5 TSI to protect high margin Kushaq top end sales as 1.5 TSI will be lapped up by enthusiasts more. Given their 2 Lakhs incremental pricing for variants, I don't believe 1.5 TSI will be less than 15 Lakhs Ex-showroom.

Skoda has not gone for introductory prices and jacking up prices later method. Rather they price it higher at the start and roll out discounts after realizing their folly. This is a chance to reverse it.

Will they?

I don't mind the high GC but the implementation could have been better from a company that prides itself for its 'emotive' and 'dynamic' design language City has a similar ground clearance but I don't see a problem there.
It’s looking good except the poorly looking fuel tank. Maybe some rear bumper mods can fix it.

This is looking like an interesting car overall. Would definitely want to TD it.

Ground clearance of
  • The "All new Honda City" is 165mm.
  • Hyundai Verna is also 165mm.
  • Maruti Ciaz is 170mm.
  • Maruti S-Cross is 180mm.
  • Hyundai Creta is 190mm.

So, at ~180mm, the ground clearance of Skoda Slavia is really a boon for a sedan in Indian conditions. I have been driving Honda city for almost 6 years now and could easily manoeuvring over the bad potholes and other ground clearance related issues. With Slavia's ground clearance, it becomes a lot easier
Yes, I agree it does reveal the tank more than City or Verna. But they ( City / Verna / Ciaz ) have ~10mm / ~15mm less ground clearance. And we can easily get it ( tank of Slavia ) painted for a better look.

Slavia looks really good standing next to Octavia and I really like the carbon steel colour even in the Kushaq. If I get Slavia ( 90% probability ), carbon steel colour will get top priority.

From the video, it seems that the car has alloys and reflector based lights, either LED(like the style variant of Octavia) or halogen. Kushaq gets alloys and LED projectors in Ambition and steel wheels and halogen lights in Active. Clearly, the variant planning is not similar to Kushaq.

One of the very few photos where a lower priced model has sunroof and higher priced doesn't (though it is not a deal breaker for me)

Re: Skoda Slavia | A Close Look & Preview

Received a call from the local dealership that the unveil is set to happen on the 10th of Feb, at 4PM.

Yet another small video from the showroom, this time the Style variant in Crystal Blue -

Thanks for sharing.

So the Slavia Ambition gets auto-folding ORVMs despite the chip shortage (as expected for a new launch!) whereas Kushaq misses out even on the top-end Style.

I am surprised Skoda didn't just extend the rear bumper a bit lower , it wouldn't have any effect on GC as long as bumper was extended lower till the fuel tank. Many cars do the same. Looks like a design miss or cost cutting

So now we know why Skoda India decided to delete electric ORVM folding from the Kushaq, same should be case with the Taigun-Virtus as well.

Thanks for sharing. Interesting, Kushaq Ambition does not get Keyless start/Stop (KESS) but Slavia has along with the chrome bits.

However, I see Auto lighting is given a miss similar to Kushaq Ambition. It may miss the rain sensing wipers also?!

So the variant wise features have got rejigged in Slavia.
