I just got a call from one of the dealers in Gurgaon. They have started taking bookings now for the new Tucson. Booking can be made through a 100% refundable token amount of 25000.

Booked the new Tucson with my friendly Hyundai dealer whom I have purchased my Creta from. She first asked Rs.51,000 then called up a few hours later and said that Hyundai has said that you can book for Rs.21,000. Got a receipt but it doesn't mention Tucson anywhere. She said its still not going to Hyundai's system and it is being entered into their own system. She also took the PAN and Aadhar card.

I was waiting for this car for the last 6 odd months and was had to decide whether to buy an octavia or this when it launches as price for both is and will be around 35 Lakhs on road.
I called Hans Hyundai - Moti Nagar Delhi to inquire about whether they have opened bookings or not as the Tucson is available only with select dealers, but they denied that bookings are open and asked to call back next month.
Hope it is not a 7 seater!

Reports also suggest that the Tucson could be offered with a 7-seat configuration this time around.

Tucson was never designed to be a 7 seater globally. And Indian version/model will be no exception at all. Considering this a premium segment (for Hyundai), I don't think Hyundai will go the Jeep way.

Highly doubt Hyundai told them anything, more like manager told them to take what they get for some interest they can earn while official bookings open. All bookings right now are unofficial AFAIK, and it’s more like dealer making profit then Hyundai getting anything. I checked with a Branch manager of a dealership whom I know and he clearly told me no official bookings yet and unofficial also they have not started taking bookings, but they plan to do the same very soon.

Also, looks like they are supplying MRFs on the new Tucson, and on closer inspection these seem like MRF Wanders (265/60R18). Slightly disappointed. :unhappy

I had a great experience with MRF Wanderers on my Duster. Just the one puncture during my ownership experience and that one too seemed like a typical bait, because it was 7 holes on one tyre. They offer quite a decent grip and ride.

I feel this "2.0-liter turbo-petrol" is a typo in Car and Bike's article. The article also mentions they will retain the tried and tested engines. If they are retaining, engines that would mean the 2.0 liter naturally aspirated petrol and the 2.0 liter turbo-diesel.

Even internationally, the biggest turbo-petrol the Gen4 Tucson comes with is the 1.6 T-GDI. While Hyundai does have a 2.0 turbo-petrol, the 2.0 T-GDI is found in bigger cars like the Santa Fe.

Any idea if Hyundai is bringing the hybrid variant too ? Off late I am seeing lot of Toyota hybrid ads, even though they just have one model which hardly sells. Seems like we might see lot of hybrids and Hyundai should think about this too

Plus I believe the 2.0 Turbo engine in the Santa Fe has been discontinued (only used from 2018-2020) although it is still used in the Hyundai N series of performance cars, the Kona N, Elantra N and Velostar N all use the Theta II 2.0 T-GDI engine.

But if Hyundai wants to bring in the 2.5 Turbo Inline 4 from the Santa Fe (277hp) or the 2.0 Turbo from the Velostar N (270hp) to the Indian Tuscon then I'm not gonna complain :D. 270hp even if it's between 30-40 lakh seems like a very tasty proposition and even a detuned version of the 2.0 Turbo (say 200-220hp) would be very good indeed.

Really excited that Tucson is launching sooner than I had imagined. I had a word with the local dealership, in Gurgaon. They have started taking the unofficial booking, which will be 100% refundable in case of cancellation.. The salesman say it's a 5-seater vehicle and definitely not a 7-seater. He did not give me any other details. I have been thinking to upgrade my Hyundai Creta 2020 to some decent vehicle. Considering, the Tucson will be a good upgrade to it I will be booking it anyways. Just waiting for more details to float around.

My guesses for the Indian Tucson (just speculation)

• 7 speed shift-by-wire dual clutch transmission
• 2 phones can be connected at once on the AVN. Music shuffling of both phones with just a touch.
• Variant options : 3 petrol variants 1 diesel variant. No AWD in petrol.
• Powertrain : 2.0 petrol (156bhp) / 2.0 diesel (186 bhp)
• Hyundai SmartScene (safety features) : Forward Collision-avoidance Assist (FCA), Lane Following Assist (LFA), Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Rear-Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA)
• 10.25-inch full digital supervision cluster and 8-inch infotainment system.
• Hands-free power tailgate
• Bose premium audio

Laxmi Hyundai, from whose site you have put up screenshots is a dealer in Nepal. Hyundai has been selling the Tucson in Nepal for many months now. It’s sold there as a directly imported CBU.

I don’t think variants which will be sold in India will be the same as those being sold in Nepal.

The lone diesel AWD variant for one doesn’t make sense for India. The current Tucson in India has 3 variants for diesel and 2 for petrol and going by the Team-BHP thread for the Gen3 Tucson, the diesel is the more popular choice here.

The 7-speed DCT also doesn’t make sense here. Internationally, it’s only offered with their turbo-petrol engines. It won’t be paired with the (almost) underpowered and very average 2.0 NA petrol. The DCT can’t be for the diesel as it’s not offered with the 2.0 diesel in any international market. Maybe the DCT can’t take that mountain of torque. The 2020 facelift introduced a brilliant next gen 8-speed TC gearbox for the diesel, so there’s no reason for them to change that either.

Of course, nothing is confirmed until Hyundai announces the specs :D.

I am sorry, but what is this based upon? Any specific information from Hyundai? It seems a reasonable guess, especially no petrol AWD, because diesel+AWD was the only AWD combination available with the outgoing version also. Still, would be good to know if this is your assessment or based on specific information.

My take on variants and price expectations:

Petrol GL(O) @ 24
Petrol GLS @ 26.5
Petrol GLS ADAS @ 28.5

Diesel GL(O) @ 27
Diesel GLS @ 29.5
Diesel GLS ADAS @ 31.5

I reckon if they follow Honda's strategy of CRV with the Petrol being 5 seater and the diesel as a 5+2, they can compete across both ends of the segment spectrum from Compass to Meridian/kodiaq.
