RTO transfer within state

Hello,

I am from Bangalore and I have liked a car which is of KA-19 (Mysore). I wanted to know if I go ahead with the purchase then would there be anything else that needs to be done apart from the RC transfer? As I understand RC transfer will have my name on the RC card but the number plate will still be KA-19. Do I need to worry about changing that to a local RTO in Bangalore?

Nope. The name and address will reflect the change, but the vehicle will have the same old number. Only inter state RTO transfer necessitates a new vehicle registration number. So no need to worry.

Especially since Bengaluru and Mysuru are nearby. Maybe a registration plate from the other extreme end of the same state will lead to cops flagging you down at checkpoints.

Re: RTO transfer within state

You will require a Clearance Certificate (CC) from the current RTO, and that will have to be submitted with the Form 29/30 to your local RTO.

Registration number will remain same.

Btw, KA-19 is mangalore RTO. So the car is already with a different RTO than it was originally registered with.

I transferred my vehicle from KL22 to a Bangalore RTO but they didn't change the number. I have the same registration number but my vehicle details are officially registered here. I have the smart card and everything.

I got into this unfortunate trap actually. I assumed the number would change but you need to submit a separate form with fees for that. At least that's what I understood from them.

I changed my Vehicle’s RTO from Kota to Jaipur, during the name transfer, after I got my vehicle from Kota. I too enquired about the registration number change. But, apparently, there is no provision of registration number change in case of within the state RTO change.

Within a state it is only an address change but your vehicle registration and your Driving License number will remain the same.

KA-19 is Mangalore and Mysore is KA-09 - just to clarify!

For ownership transfer within same state, you do not need to apply for a new registration number. Just get a clearance certificate from the seller in your favor, along with forms 29 and 30, and you should be all set.

@cool_dube and @condor I assume the clearance certificate and forms 29 and 30 are required for RC transfer. The dealer is going to do the RC transfer so I assume they will take care of getting these documents. My question on this: should I expect to receive the clearance certificate and form 29/30 again with the new RC or these will be kept by the RTO? (I can and will definitely ask the dealer but a confirmation from folks at TeamBHP is always good )

RTO will retain these for records. All you'll get is the new RC.

As mentioned by @cool_dube, these forms are for the RTO. Once the process is completed at the RTO, you will receive the new RC card, and that is pretty much the only document you will need (apart from insurance).

Do note that smart cards are in short supply, and it will take time for the new card to reach you. Till then, you can use a copy of the RC card - and the receipt of submission to your local RTO as proof of transfer process.

Has the dealer agreed to do the transfer @ Bangalore - or is he going to only do the part at Mysore RTO ?

Got it, thanks.

The dealer has agreed to do the transfer @ Bangalore, i.e., give me the new RC.

Go ahead and apply for a KA number. Without that you will not be able to get your KL road tax refunded. Look at some of my posts in a massive TBHP thread about "moving a car between states".

Re: RTO transfer within state

Guys quick help needed. I'm selling my car to someone out of Bangalore. The buyer is holding 20% of payment for giving him Clearance Certificate.

I'm worried about submitting for CC and then the buyer walking back. That'll leave me in a soup. What's the implications once CC is obtained and sale is not done. Please advice.

Thanks in advance.

There was a thread here on how the buyer withheld some payment on this pretext and never bothered to pay back.

You can only sign the documents buyer needs only after full money is credited to your account. You should stay firm and unless very pressing, ignore this person if he doesnot pay upfront.

Oh okay. What if I just apply and do not handover. I'll just show him CC is ready and only on payment of remaining 20% will hand it over. Is that okay ?

Is it possible to give link for the above thread which you mentioned. TIA
