Re: Govt. sets Ethanol production & EV sales target to reduce pollution

The biggest problem India faces over the next decade is water scarcity. There are multiple documentaries about this and ground water reserves are already depleted in many places, all it takes is one year of low rainfall to cause a drought.

Sugarcane as a crop itself should be severely curtailed. Wter problem aside, sugar itself is the cause of many diseases and more sugarcane being produced means cheaper sugar. Sugar addiction is the new nicotine addiction.

Faces over the next decade, Perhaps?

The immediate concerns are:
1) Pollution from multiple sources especially aged fleet of vehicles &
2) A burgeoning trade deficit.

The importance of all whichever issues are ranked by each individual based on their own individual priorities.

For a citizen residing in Delhi and struggling with pollution related health issues will have different priorities to a person in Kerala who purchased a petrol car 2-3 years ago OR a government bureaucrat trying to bring down the petroleum import bills.

A fair solution that makes everyone happy, never exists!

A sugarcane republic! If nothing else, that could be India's contribution to the English lexicon, as a brand new kind of dysfunctional country.

Re: Govt. sets Ethanol production & EV sales target to reduce pollution

I think the auto industry is getting bombarded with either insanely lunatic or heedless decisions. Musical horns, musical sirens for ambulances are enough to make India the comedy central of the world. Now this abrupt and short-sighted decision like ethanol fuel is one of the reasons why more and more companies are either leaving or not interested in further investment in our banana republic. As a business entity if you cannot plan your move for the next five years because of unstable government policies, it's normal that you lose interest in the market specially when you're not Maruti or Hyundai and are already challenged by our herd mentality.

Re: Govt. sets Ethanol production & EV sales target to reduce pollution

This is the same reason why I am not able to make up my mind to buy a petrol engined vehicle. All the petrol cars being manufactured in our country today are only E10 compliant. What will happen if we use them with E25 is a big dilemma. None of the sales rep's or service advisors of the car showrooms I have visited were able to clarify this. As far as i have researched on the internet E25 fuel is detrimental to E10 compliant engines. Also, the government on its part should also clarify whether E10 fuel will be available along with E25.

Those who study medicine or open hospitals must focus on investing in facilities treating the aftermath of massive lithium pollution.

We must avoid buying medicines for that from China.

https://www.livemint.com/industry/ag...973212283.html

Today's livemint front page has a discussion on this exact subject.

While it starts with recording the policy itself, its rationale and associated savings, it goes on to discuss unintended (adverse) effects, impact on crop diversification, food security and related ethical conundrums of pursuing such a strategy.

Incidentally, interest subsidies are also proposed for distilleries to expand capacity (how convenient). While the policy stresses on using less water-consuming crops, There are already price support schemes that incentivise these farmers to go the rice and sugarcane route (paraphrased from the article)

All in all, a handy short read on the subject.

Is this some kind of a Joke?

Minister wants sugar companies to set up ethanol pumps, to approach SC for relaxation in emission norms

Quote:
Higher blend of ethanol with petrol will not meet India's stringent BS VI emission norms.Minister wants them to be relaxed to BS IV to help sugar industry.

No worries, once things settle down, we'll have sugarcane plantation ban.

Wikipedia has this description for Ethanol.

Govt. sets Ethanol production & EV sales target to reduce pollution-img_20211012_215354.jpg

As you can see, it is a psychoactive drug. And as most of us know, it mixes very well with water; water, that seems to have made its way into our netas' internals, forcing them to come out with hare brained ideas such as this and certain other musical nonsenses.

One can't treat these statements as jokes even, for they are choking our system. We are surely destined to reach nowhere useful, as long as these sermons keep rolling out by the dozens.

Let's not use such words to describe or defame our country. India is India. There are some incompetent people in power, who come out with new absurd rules every second day. All your arguments are valid, but we cannot defame our country because of some fools running it.

Re: Govt. sets Ethanol production & EV sales target to reduce pollution

The criteria for using flex-fuel in Brazil was,

Quote:
Ethanol is advantageous in gas stations only when it has a limit price of 70% of gasoline, since the fuel derived from sugarcane has lower calorific value. In practice it is common for ethanol to provide greater power to the car, but in return it runs fewer kilometers per liter of fuel spent
Brazil, a country using the flex fuel for many years has an interesting survey [(Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP)] results done on October 10-16 :

- Ethanol is not worth it in any State of Brazil. Ethanol is costing 76.24% of gasoline. That is, on average, there is no advantage in filling the tank with ethanol in the country

-In all states of the country the vegetable fuel exceeds the limit of 70% of the price of gasoline

Quote:
In fact, as said at the beginning, in no state of the country is it worth fueling with alcohol, because throughout the country the vegetable fuel goes beyond 70% of the price of gasoline.
