Re: Toyota Fortuner Legender 4x4, now launched at Rs. 42.33 lakh

Fortuner has always been the not so cool car amongst the petrol heads here. It lacks this and that compared to Captiva, Isuzu, Hexa (!!!), later Endeavour, may be even Gloster. Bouncy, bumpy, no frills, hard ride, too frequent servicing and what not. But month after month it sells enormous numbers, retains its quiet, loyal base, compared to competition. It is a true legend like Innova and Crysta. It may be expensive and may not have the advanced electronics which come after a generation or two. But ask its owners, fuss free ownership, 1000-2000 servicing charges, inexpensive parts which require rare replacement, good mileage, no breakdowns; and even after ten years of ownership you will get at least 50%-60% of its purchase price. It is worth every penny, if you can afford it and not looking for a super premium badge, just go for it. Nothing comes close, not now, not later. XUV, Safari after initial excitement will settle to 2k-3k odd and Fortuner/Legender at double the prices will keep doing 1k-2K+ month after month.

Re: Toyota Fortuner Legender 4x4, now launched at Rs. 42.33 lakh

Let me don the hat of Nostradamus and make a prediction. Toyota will exit out of the Indian market in the next 3 to 5 years. XUV 700 doing well will eat in to their overpriced fortuner sales. Interest in purpose built people movers will continue to wane against 3 row SUVs or another manufacturer will introduce a value for money people mover. Either of these will eat in to the overpriced Innova sales. As an owner of a 15 year old Innova, and an ardent student of the Toyota lean product development and production systems, I feel they just don’t have it in their DNA to be nimble. Nimbleness is the name of the game in the Indian market. Knowing about the cross stakes that the Japanese auto companies have between them, they may merge their India operations with Suzuki and leave it to Suzuki to front end. That is the best outcome we can hope for Toyota in India.

Re: Toyota Fortuner Legender 4x4, now launched at Rs. 42.33 lakh

Honestly, what is the competition to the Fortuner 4*4 today? There is no reasonably powerful body on frame 4*4 in the Indian market. Does 50 lakh make sense for this Toyota? It's a big no, unless one likes to be ripped off and feel cheated everytime one steps into the cabin. So why does a Fortuner sell? I think where the Toyota scores is in the peace of mind factor. The car, the servicing, the ancillaries, spare parts are so well made, well priced and long lasting that most buyers feel that they don't have to bother about anything except add fuel and drive for the next 10 years of ownership. This alone supports a great resale price and makes a 50 lakh car seem affordable (over the period of ownership).

Re: Toyota Fortuner Legender 4x4, now launched at Rs. 42.33 lakh

Am I the only one who feels this is Ridiculous!!!

First Innova now Fortuner, these vehicles are like FD's increasing in value year on year, which is great of existing owners but why would one want to buy such bare bones SUV at this cost? Compare this to XUV 7OO and what SUV's are offering internationally, this model looks 10 years old.

On one hand Toyota does this and on the other hand they complain about the competitive nature of the market.
