That's indeed a looker!

Rear end looks very much like AMG GLE coupe, design is subtle and not overdone.

The flap door handles do not go unnoticed but doesn't look bad imo.

Hopefully they carry the gloss wheel arch cladding to the production version.

Looks like the SUV market is getting saturated now and manufacturers are slowly turning to Coupe SUV's. The initial ones will definitely get a head start and market share for a while like how Renault Duster was when introduced. This is a body shape that will be liked by many.

Nice Design, especially the rear looks really cool. The color and the alloy wheels make it more sporty. Could see disc brakes on the rear wheels, hope it is carried over to production.

It indeed looks handsome in pictures at least. Design team has done its magic, hope the product team who was in charge also has done justice to feature mix and power train options right from the launch and not wait for customer's feedback to make changes. Barring the flap type door handles, which BTW are again coming back in flavor courtesy BMW, which indeed is aerodynamically appropriate as well compared to pull type handles which jet out of the body line quite a bit, the Basalt's design is refreshing in a sea of compact crossovers/compact SUV space.

I want Citroen India to succeed, and hope this shall be the product which shall deliver the goods for them. Last but not the least, Citroen, based on the reactions to the design, please don't price it out of the contention. In Godfather style "GIVE US AN OFFER, WE CANT REFUSE".

Citroen Basalt has the potential to turn the fortunes of Citroen India, the fundamentals are already sorted and Citroen seems to be addressing lack of features as well. Some points which can make it a runaway success -

• Launch it at a shocker price !
• Have a fully loaded variant with Auto Climate Control, AT transmission, Cruise Control, Sun Roof et al.
• Introduce long term maintenance packs to alleviate any service apprehensions.

On the looks front this is a SIX! smashed out of the ground.

Looks chic. Honestly the Tata Curvv looks dumpy and bloated in comparison, made worse by those huge gaps between the top of the tyre and the underside of the wheelarch.

Taking the C3 Aircross as a reference point, I think the BASALT will not be too heavy. I am guessing the weight to be around 1.2xx kgs at the kerb. With some intelligent gearing, closely stacked first 3 ratios, performance should not be an issue from the 1.2 litre, 3-pot Turbo petrol. It is a very tractable powertrain.
Again, keeping the French tradition in mind, the BASALT should have well sorted dynamics with a good ride and handling balance.
Now all that Citroen needs to do is to spec it up nice & proper and increase the number of dealerships across the country.

Who knows, this just might be the product to bring back the Gauls in reckoning!

No sunroofs!!

Citroen, you may bring cars to the Indian market without wheels, but not without sunroofs! Instantly, you are down to 40% of the expected audience just because your model car does not have a sunroof. Who needs wheels when we have sunroofs!

Clearly, Citroen didn't get the memo that Indians won't even consider buying a car unless it comes equipped with every imaginable bell and whistle (even if they'll never use half of them). I wish them all the luck.

What a handsome design that Citroen has cooked up! Almost like a poor man's BMW X6. The Tata Curvv looks positively amateurish in comparison. Wish they had revealed the interiors too.

The Curvv looks fat and plump, and propped on embarassingly tall stilleto tyres that have a rather silly flowery alloy design. The Basalt looks sophisticated, svelte and has a feline grace to it. Ooh la la, ze French really know how to make things look good!

I really hope that the interiors will match up to those stunning looks outside. Come on, Citroen, there is so much potential, pls dont mess it up.

Outstanding work by the design team. Even though there is panel sharing with the C3 and the Aircross, they have done enough to differentiate it into a distinct product. Wider grille than the Aircross, LED headlamps, alloy wheel design and overall stance of the vehicle have been meticulously crafted to let that loud colour scream with passion. Fantastic! Here's hoping the engineering team and the product positioning team and the interior feature additions all work in service to the exterior and Citroen might just make a comeback.
