Next-gen Toyota Yaris to debut in Q3 2022

The Toyota Yaris is due for an update and according to reports, the next-generation model could arrive in Q3 of 2022.

The new Yaris (codenamed: D92A) will make its debut in Thailand, where it is sold as the Vios. It will be based on the modular Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA), which also underpins the Toyota Raize. The new platform is said to improve rigidity and safety while also reducing the weight of the car.

The report also states that a hybrid version of the Yaris will be introduced a year later in August 2023. While details are still scarce, the car could be powered by a 1.5-litre hybrid derived from the Prius' powertrain.

It seems highly unlikely that Toyota would offer the next generation Yaris in India, as the current model could be replaced by a re-badged Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.

Whatever happened to the Hilux that was supposed to be launched this year? Is that still on? At least then we'll have something non Maruti badged to look forward to.

For a moment I was like, " Wait. Didn't the next gen Yaris already got launched an year ago? They are gonna launch it in India? " And then the bummer. The developing world Yaris/Vios/Ativ/Vitz/Platxz whatever....
Pity. They could have launched it in hybrid version, but guess Toyota would use the upcoming D22 crossover project to launch hybrid tech into the mass market instead.

Well. Not sure about non Maruti Toyotas. The only one model that is sure coming is the D22 project Creta rival. While the platform is Daihatsu, the whole car would most probably be a lovechild of Maruti and Toyota. Cheapest proper Toyota in India is going to be the Innova for a loonggg time.

Re: Next-gen Toyota Yaris to debut in Q3 2022

Yaris was an 80% all round car... i.e., it does everything fairly well and nothing exceptionally well. It did provide AT in all variants and 7 airbags in the first iteration, which got copied by Honda quickly. In the next iteration if they bring in the Prius's hybrid powertrain, that will be one dimension where it would become exceptional compared to other sedans. Also if the roof mounted AC controls could give way for a big sunroof, it might get traction again.
