Rating your After-Sales Service

Hello fellow members. Whenever any one of us decides to buy a new ride for ourselves or for our family, we often concern ourselves only with the vehicle itself and fail to notice the after-sales service offered. For those of us who buy cars for longer periods, say 10+ years, this aspect of car buying becomes one of the most crucial and critical factors to consider. For most of us, this information comes through close family, friends or our immediate social circle.

Through this thread, and the valuable input of fellow members, we can help new car buyers with finalizing not just the vehicle itself but for them to have an idea of what a company offers in the Aftersales so that they can make a sound decision with their purchase.

Kindly factor in the spare parts cost, behavior of the staff, problem resolution etc. while submitting your valuable opinions.

P.S If such thread already exists, Mods please do the necessary

Re: Rating your After-Sales Service

Had two Toyotas for 15.5 years now. You can't be a satisfied owner unless the ASC makes it an easy experience. No prizes for guessing why and who I'd vote for. For academic purposes, I'd say from my experience MSIL is 2nd. I'd be interested in seeing feedback for a Johnny-come-lately AKA New Kid in Town like MG. You need to be a fan of a certain song from a certain rock band that hit it big in 1970s and '80s to know why I used this metaphor.

"Sab ke sab chor hain"

They all push unsuspecting customers with all extra services to drive up the service revenue. They become angry/sad/disinterested if we say no extra services required.

Honda charged 700/- for fumigation during first service. Are they cashing in on Covid fears? I normally show advisor the service chart and do what is marked and nothing extra, not even free wash.

I would say this makes a perfect addition to the Team BHP directory section. Have a thread for each of the ASS - would be a gold mine to have and also will help get companies and service centre managements to get their act together.

Re: Rating your After-Sales Service

I stay in Delhi and have owned an Indigo for 2 years, Swift for 2 years, Jazz for 3 years in the past and now driving a Creta for its 4th year. Creta is close to 200k now with no major surpise except for a radiator leak at close to 150K.

Tata ASC was an average experience and MSIL was no different. Honda on the other hand, was surprising proactive and willing to hear you out. Also, let me stand next to the car during servicing like a pain in the *** customer.

For my Creta I am visiting Triumph Hyundai, Gurgaon. They have been courteous and extended all possible support during and after the expiration of warranty period. Its been a real delight to own till now. Fingers crossed!

Re: Rating your After-Sales Service

Good point. I think not only to unsuspecting customers but to everyone. Could there be a possibility of them deliberately not doing the regular PMS job if we deny those extra services?.

Re: Rating your After-Sales Service

I've had no complaints with the ford ecosport (diesel) service. The service cost is the best part. I don't remember it crossing 6k for any service. Service is once every year. They have some special discounted service packages too. They send reports on whatsapp that contain photos of the vehicle while it was being serviced. Never had a delay in getting the car back, almost every time it was same day delivery. They take feedback seriously.
The cost is available here:
https://www.fordservicepricepromise.com/

I also have a Honda Jazz cvt and that feels a little expensive to own. No issues with the service in terms of delays or timely pickups. Most of the time its a same day delivery but I've had multiple instances where the service cost went above 8k and the service is twice a year :(. Yes, they did add up some covid related costs too. I felt that they charge a little extra for accessories (eg:windshield liquid, wiper blades which are almost half the price for the same brand (or better) on amazon)

Re: Rating your After-Sales Service

So I have owned Honda's for the last 10 plus years. Up till now the service has been satisfactory, heck they now know me so they dont make me pay advance for any parts that they order for me however I have an annoying issue with my CRV which they are unable to rectify and being OEM AFTER SALES I expect if any one then them to rectify the issue but they cant and thats got me a bit irritated with them.

Having bought a new Lexus last year and having one experience with Toyota service, I would say there is so far nothing special about it, heck I dont even feel I own a premium car. Lets see how the 1 year service is conducted.

Re: Rating your After-Sales Service

I used to own TUV 300 and my father has 2nd gen Creta. During first lockdown we had not used both the vehicles for a long period of time. Rats attacked both vehicles, both of them did not crank and we had to use RSA to tow vehicles to service center.

M&M charged me 7000 bucks for soldering the damaged wiring kit (not replacement as it costs 75k). Hyundai charged zero rupees for soldering the wiring kit in Creta and they did it under goodwill. Need I say more?

Re: Rating your After-Sales Service

Among the brands I have personally owned.

Mahindra, Maruti, Hyundai, Tata - in that order. The first one treats my vehicles like celebrities , The last one won't get me as a customer again.

Re: Rating your After-Sales Service

Very happy with BMW as well Toyota, if you can check the estimate for any up sale products in case of later. Haven’t experienced some of the other brands so cannot say if they are good or bad.

But, given the current high sales and relatively smaller infrastructure, I won’t be surprised if this deteriorate in coming years unless larger investments are made on workshops.

Re: Rating your After-Sales Service

I'm happy with Tata Service. The three dealers that I tried in Bangalore are Key, Classic and Aadya. I would also like to mention here that I stay with the car during service, and ensure everything is perfect. If I don't have time, I don't leave it for service at all. Charges are downright reasonable. Like Maruti, Tata is adamant that they earn the full 5 Stars from Customers - and TM are quite strict these days, in this regard. Warranty claims, if any, were honoured quietly, without any protest. Parts were replaced if there was merit.

Re: Rating your After-Sales Service

I've owned Maruti, Tata and Honda cars. I'd rate Maruti as the best in Service and Tata as the worst. I've had nightmares with Tata.

I'd owned a Maruti for 12 years and Tatas for about 9 years.

In the case of Maruti the sales experience was also very good. In the case of Tata, the sales experience was also very bad. If you are a newbie in owning cars and on a budget, IMHO one should not look further than Maruti.

Re: Rating your After-Sales Service

Based on my 8.5 years of owning a Ritz diesel, I can say that it is a misconception that Maruti’s service is inexpensive. If anything, I’ve seen it to be more than others like Ford and Tata. Perhaps the statement was true when Maruti entered India, but no longer the case.

Re: Rating your After-Sales Service

My experience with VW Downtown (Mumbai) has been absolutely stellar over the past 6-7 years or so. Bought a Polo GT TSI against the wishes of family (who were well aware of the usual VW/Skoda horror stories) but never felt ripped off. The car is great and the service execs. They have been thoroughly professional over the last few years and very transparent with the billing - even gave away some service charges on goodwill.
