I second this. For what it is worth, my experience with buying a Skoda and fixing a repair post accident was pretty much seamless and nothing as horrific as the general consensus seems to be (the bill was not that easy on the wallet though but that is different + it was insurance claimed).

Granted the manufacturer can also push dealerships to do better but at the end of the day it is about dealer's intention as well to how honest they want to run the shop.

Re: Rating your After-Sales Service

My experience over the last 2 decades.

1. Toyota- Having owned the first gen Fortuner, Innova and the current gen Crysta, I had a fab time owning a Toyota. Though the experience was slightly below par this time with regards to the Crysta. Most of the accessories weren't available at the time of delivery, vehicle showed 170 kms on the odo on delivery. When questioned, I was told that it was driven from a neighbouring city to my place for delivery.

2. Maruti - Never had any major complaints with the 800 and the Zen we owned. Never had any praises either with regards to service though. They got the job done whenever needed.

3. BMW - I had 2 generations of the X1(E84 & F48). The 1st one was a pre-owned car purchased from the same dealer. I was so impressed with their service that I went ahead and booked the next gen(brand new) with them. Haggled with the dealer to get service packages for 4 years(BSI Plus), may be that contributed a bit for my happiness.

4.Ford - The Ecosport(1.5 TDI Titanium) was an awesome car. Only gripe I had while boking was that my choice of engine(1.0 Ecoboost) had a long waiting time and my dealer didn't help one bit in that aspect. But apart from that, service, billing, post service follow ups were excellent and never had any major complaints.

I would like to point out that service experiences of the same brand varies from city to city all across India. I had a bitter experience servicing my Ford in Kerala, whereas I had an awesome experience in my hometown.

So all that feedback we see is only the tip of the iceberg. Go by feedbacks you get for your local dealers.

I agree with the opinions of fellow members in this regard that the service experience of the same brand may differ in dealerships both inter-city and intra-city. However, the average percentage of good feedback plays a crucial role in determining whether the After sales of a brand is good or not, in general terms at least. It is to be highlighted that Toyota and MS have a general good reputation among the customers, and that is evident from the Poll as well. Any bad experience in the above stated brands would be considered as an exception to the average and thus, similar condition would be applicable on a brand having poor after sales service but with one or more dealers offering better quality service than the general average.

The sole purpose of this thread according to me should be to act as a guide in enabling a consumer to approach the car buying process not only focusing on the product but also on the services you are offered after the purchase.

Additionally, in cases where the out-of-the norm experience(Good or bad) has been felt by our valuable members, I would request them to mention the name of the dealership so that others can be warned(in case of a bad experience) or informed(in case of a good experience) so that we don't have to go through a bad experience in our car ownership.

Poor buying and after-sales experience with Hyundai (7 years and counting)

Even big players like Hyundai are not reliable, and this post is all about that.

It was about AUGUST 2016, we needed a car in exchange of our Fiesta Exi 1.4 (bought a pre-owned).
(I’m mentioning the month here for a purpose)

We had zero expectations. The car is just for occasional commute.
So, the search began keeping the following in mind.
  1. Good resale value for our old car (The SA cheated my father well. That’s a story for a different day)
  2. ASC near our home. (My father’s work doesn’t let him take time out of work)
  3. Petrol car (Our running is too low)
  4. New car only (Not a used one)
  5. Reliable (I was among those who believed Hyundais were reliable)

We went to the nearest Maruti Dealership. Unfortunately, it was only a sales outlet. The service centre was 70 kms away. Ruled out hence.
Then went to the nearest Hyundai outlet. The first ever question asked by my father, “Do you service the car here itself?”.
“Yes sir, the service centre is just 1 km away and it is fully equipped” said the SA.
Now, we started looking into the Grand i10 and the EON that was available as display vehicles.

I asked the SA about the facelift that was about to arrive in a few months. I told him that I read about it online, and we need that. He said to my father, “Children nowadays read rumours online. There’s no facelift for the next two years. Hyundai cars undergo extensive testing for two years. So, the vehicle will take atleast two years to launch”. I’ll never forget that ugly smile of him.
My father believed him, and booked the Hyundai Grand i10 (P) 2016.
The delivery was on September 2016 (10 days later).

I had my exams and went to the hostel. After I came back a month, had some shocks waiting.
  1. 1. The old car was traded too low than the promised amount. Found this through the invoice and the SA had not given any discounts that were promised.
  2. 2. The car was not directly brought from the factory (as the SA told), but was standing long at the dealer’s stockyard.
  3. 3. All the accessories were added as the part of the car’s price, without my father’s consent and he was told that, it comes with car itself.
  4. 4. Facelift was confirmed.
Each time I miss the reverse camera, I get all this into my head and that ruins my mood. (The facelift had a touch screen and a reverse camera). Even after 7 years :(.

And now, with the service experience:-
  1. 1. The car has to be taken to a HASC (same dealer – SUSEE Hyundai) that is 70 kms away (for everything except a basic oil change, air filter replacement, etc.,)
  2. 2. For replacing the bumper under insurance, I have to drive the car 140 kms (up and down) for inspection. Wait for 10 days for the part to arrive. Then, drive for 70 kms and take the car back to the HASC. Then let the car stay there at the ASC for atleast a week (for the surveyor to come, approve, etc.,). Return journey through a highly crowded bus and then by a cab. I’m highly frustrated by the end of the day. Then, again a bus+cab+70 km ride, for the return journey. My father never gives the car to a driver, and so, he has to drive himself, availing a leave from the office.
  3. 3. The car has a strange issue since day one. The oil level is always at the bottom of the dipstick, each time the car is due for service (after running not more than 5k kms a year). The car has been only driven for 33,000 kms in the past 7 years. My father takes care of the car like his child. Very very sedately driven. We have never hired a driver. My father books a Taxi, whenever he can’t drive. And yes, the HASC near my home has no technicians for the same. Same drama of 280 kms frustration. They couldn’t solve the issue yet. No leak, no exhaust smoke, nothing. The SA said, the engine is to be dismantled, and it is better to sell the car. The statement broke my heart. I patiently asked for the gatepass, took my car home. Touched her and told, “I’ll never let you go baby”.

And each time, the car stands under the direct sunlight for all 7 days, bearing all the dust. (We never park our car under direct sunlight anyday.)
I see the Maruti ASC near my home (opened 4 years ago with all facilities), each time I drive past, for the service to the HASC that is 70 kms away.

Writing this with a heavy heart. Tried writing this many times earlier, and I get frustrated when this comes into my head. Completed at last.

The USP of having ASC near home is spoilt for the last 7 years.
Also, not all Hyundais are relaible either.
Will never buy a Hyundai again.

Re: Rating your After-Sales Service

Positive Experience:-

1. MG: it has been exceptional experience in last 3 years of my ownership of Hector. They go above and beyond the expectations each time whether it’s regular service or repair or RSA. I had experience with them in Pune and Nagpur. My detailed feedback on service is in my ownership review below.
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-...or-diesel.html (Long Distance Cruiser - My MG Hector Diesel)

2. Maruti:It has been decent since we purchased our second city runabout car Spresso. I have also owned Wagon R duo (LPG) till 2014 and it was mixed experience back then but now it’s much better. Maruti’s feedback system really keeps service centre’s on toes.

Negative:

Fiat / Jeep: WORST. I have been owner of Fiat Punto 90 HP Sportz for 7 years (till 2021) and each and every experience with SKY Moto , only dealer of Fiat / Jeep in Pune has been nightmare. I switched to local FNG within 2 years of ownership despite having 5 years of extended warranty. This ensured that I never ventured into Jeep showroom when I was looking for upgrade.
