Re: New "BH" series registration | For cars getting transferred from one state to another

Has anyone from Delhi succeeded in paying the renewal tax and renewing the registration online (without having to visit the RTO)?

Re: New "BH" series registration | For cars getting transferred from one state to another

Great news on no proof required for BH Tax renewal !

However has anyone changed states during the renewal ?

I am assuming that you would need atleast an address proof before doing so.

Re: New "BH" series registration | For cars getting transferred from one state to another

I met with HSR Layout RTO at Bangalore a few days ago. They are giving BH number in the private sector for bank employees and for directors of pvt ltd companies. The company must be present in 4 states of India.

Regular employees of MNCs are not being given these numbers at least from the HSR Layout RTO in Bangalore. I would imagine this is consistent across all RTOs in KA.

Any change of registration also requires the buyer to meet the meet the same requirements.

I was also informed the every 2 years the documents will be sought by the RTO to validate if BH series is still holding good.

Cheers

Re: New "BH" series registration | For cars getting transferred from one state to another

Hi All, I am currently in the process of updating the address for my car, unfortunately this required a NOC as the RTA has changed in the last 14 years. Has anyone converted an existing registered vehicle with state RTA to BH registration? If yes, please help out with the procedure and other nuances to be aware. I am interested to convert my car to BH number. Also is there any age limit for the BH conversion? And finally, what happens after 15 years of the car? Do I have to get it re-registered to local RTA?

I haven't specifically researched this but my general understanding was that BH option was only at the time of new car purchase - it does not account for existing cars registered with a particular state to BH. Seems logical too since for an already registered car, it would already have paid the entire 15 year taxes for that particular state.

Re: New "BH" series registration | For cars getting transferred from one state to another

A few people have asked about "what after 15 years". To my knowledge, 15 years itself is referred to as "lifetime" with respect to road tax, and I believe it is so across the country. So, I wouldn't expect any additional road tax after 15 years. You may have to extend validity of your registration though and may need to pay a nominal renewal/inspection fee for that, but it is not road tax as such. I have done that for one of my cars (in Bangalore, Karnataka). I would imagine it should be the same for BH vehicles as well.

As per my knowledge, there is a new rule by which you can convert existing state registered cars to BH if you satisfy the criteria. A link that I can find from internet given below.

Is everyone getting the BH registration charges calculated on ex-factory price as against the ex-showroom price? Especially in Mumbai?

Re: New "BH" series registration | For cars getting transferred from one state to another

Hello, I have been speaking with my dealer - Mahindra - Shireesh Auto in Sarjapur, Bangalore; for BH registration for a new vehicle; and they continue to maintain that for Private Employees, the RTOs continue to not give approvals.
Despite the diktat from the High court which clearly called out that the state RTO cannot overrule the terms of BH registration for Private employees, there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel.
Has anyone managed to get a BH registration as a private employee in Bangalore yet? Is there a work around for this? Some guidance would help!
Thanks,
Bala

In Mumbai it is calculated on ex showroom price. I was considering a PIL, but then decided it wasn't worth it.

That is not correct. It is calculated on Ex factory price. My Audi Q3 got registered yesterday and I can see the values on Vaahan. Ex factory is calculated basis the Ex showroom price before any discounts so the government does not lose revenue because of discounts. So, for the same car, everyone in a state pays the same amount for BH registration irrespective of the on road price they negotiate.

Sales guys at most dealerships have no understanding of BH registration and will say whatever they want. Challenge them with a copy of the MoRTH Gazette and they will all fall in place.

What exactly did you mean by "MoRTH Gazette"? Can you share it?

The gazette notification by Government of India for BH series clearly mentions invoice price. Below is the pdf link

See point number 5.

Whether dealer decides to collect BH tax on ex-factory or ex-showroom price, the RTO receipt would show what is finally paid, isn't it?
So during delivery and final settlement, the customer still has an option to reconcile all the payment he has made to the dealer and what is reflecting on receipts. If something does not tally, he can demand an explanation and refund.

I got the BH registration done on exshowroom price including the GST. When I later challenged the dealer by showing the Morth circular, the dealer raised his hands saying the RTO folks have provided the tax calculation. This was in Jan 2022 and my interactions with RTO people made me realize that I am talking to a wall. Had to leave the issue there.
