Sales executive seems to know more than the RTO officers themselves . Jokes apart, KA govt is not allowing BH registration for pvt company so unless you are govt employee, BH registration is not possible in KA RTOs. BH ownership transfer is a bigger mess as you can see from various posts here. I'm yet to come across a post about successful name transfer of BH cars.

Anyone going for new BH registration or buying a used BH vehicle, please check with the RTO about the process regarding name transfer and not to blindly trust agents/sales guys. State governments are trying every trick to discourage BH registration for general public (even if eligible on paper) and limiting it to only govt employees in transferable jobs.

I heard Karnataka RTO has not been giving BH number plate to individuals, other than Govt employees. Is it still the same?

I am interested to convert my car to BH number. Also is there any age limit for the BH conversion? And finally, what happens after 15 years of the car? Do I have to get it re-registered to local RTA?
I too have the same query. Please share your experience if anyone in the thread has been able to convert state registered car into a BH registered vehicle. I am from West bengal and the road tax I paid while I bought the car in 2019 was for 5 years. The tax would be due this December and I am keen to get BH number as I am eligible for the same.

Re: New "BH" series registration | For cars getting transferred from one state to another

I'm considering taking a BH number but was worried about the usual questions that are being discussed here.

Without repeating those, I'm looking for the following info which I couldn't find in the thread yet.

In the Parivahan portal address change option is commented with 'state series only'.
Once a BH series holder permanently relocates to a new RTO area and address, how can he/she update the address present in RC?

Anyone done that and know any online option?

Hello BMUSER,

As per the updated page, for change of address option is also available for BH registered vehicles.

It is just above state series.

I have attached the screenshot for your reference.

I hope this will find you helpful.

Thank you @sandeep1732

I double checked and found that some states have that option enabled for BH address change (like Maharashtra , Karnataka etc.) but some states like West Bengal , Odisha doesn't have that option yet!

Re: New "BH" series registration | For cars getting transferred from one state to another

Hello! I have a query. My friend is planning to get a new bike. The prerequisites needed for getting the BH number are complete.

Question is he wishes to buy the bike from his hometown but the office where he works is in different state. So, can he get the BH number from hometown where he wants to buy the bike from or the registration can happen only from where his office is ?

For any transaction including change of address on my BH series vehicle the Vahan portal says I have a pending application to pay tax which is actually for 2026-2028. Anyone else faced this issue?

Did you check for the next tax payable (i.e. 26-28) or went till confirmation/payment page? I'm guessing but it seems to be thinking that next 2-years payment has been initiated.

Btw that high 2 years tax? Which car is that?

Re: New "BH" series registration | For cars getting transferred from one state to another

A basic question about BH registration, which surprisingly I don't seem to find an answer for- Is there any limit on how many BH registrations a person is allowed to have? I already have one car registered in my name under BH. I will soon be buying another one and was wondering whether it can be done in the same name or not.

I recall reading somewhere that only one car per person is allowed under BH. Not able to locate but may be the post is buried in this thread somewhere.

There is no limit on registrations to the best of my knowledge. I personally know a colleague who has a BH registered car and a BH registered bike. Admittedly its not two cars but a car and bike but I don't think there would have been an issue in registering two cars as such.

Logically also it doesn't make sense. This scheme is to make the administrative aspects of persons in transferable jobs easier if they move states / cities - its not a waiver on duties etc but just a different way of charging the duty. There should be no reason therefore to allow it for only one vehicle.

I have different perspective. BH is also a form of subsidy /benefit to an individual based on certain eligibility.
As with any other govt subsidy, it would be limited. I remember posts/news articles in this thread which clearly state that only one vehicle in a category can be registered as BH. Bike and car are different category hence one of each is allowed. It kind of makes sense to me to limit it, otherwise chances of mis-use are quite high due to such loop holes (eligibile folks would start buying for their family and friends, who knows).

Re: New "BH" series registration | For cars getting transferred from one state to another

I will check with RTO guys when it's time. But logically speaking, I don't think BH was intended to be any kind of rebate/subsidy. It is similar to moving from state taxation to uniform GST. We have a number of states in the country charging taxes at their own rates. BH is supposed to provide flexibility to move freely among states without additional bureaucratic hassles later. Theoretically, it is possible that there could be a state or UT where road tax is lesser than BH, who knows.
