Thanks for this very helpful update. Did you have to resubmit any documents that demonstrate your current proof of eligibility for continued registration under BH? Or are the documents provided at the time of original registration assumed to hold good at renewal as well? The above process did not seem to indicate any document submission, which I found surprising.

Thank you.

As an aside, hopefully some member or the other will be able to share a similar useful step by step guide for transfers too in the foreseeable future - both from BH to BH as well as BH to non BH. That will complete all the unknown elements of this registration route.

If so, the logic of the 2 year tax being passed to the State where the vehicle is transferred does not hold.
And then people wonder why some states are reluctant to allow private employees get BH registration?

No, the process did not require me to upload any documents to re-prove BH eligibility. I was just asked to pay the road tax for the 2-year period.

Agree with your point, this could be a lapse in implementing new rules as intended. But why discriminate govt employees vs private? Govt employees have been pampered over generations by our socialist/communist policies (while on the other hand poor honest tax payers being royally exploited!). As a result, our culture has also unfairly glorified them way too much.

Re: New "BH" series registration | For cars getting transferred from one state to another

I have a question regarding paying the tax every 2 years. Currently when I pay life time tax in Karnataka, I am done paying tax for the rest of the life of the vehicle.

But with BH registration if I am keeping the car for > 15 years for example, won’t I be paying more tax throughout the life of the vehicle?

In the long run if I am not moving out of my state, then the current system of paying the life time tax even in a state like Karnataka where the tax is higher works out cheaper, isn’t it? Or am I missing some nuance here?

Road taxes are for 15 years, post which it would be green tax which one needs to pay while getting the fitness or registration renewed.

The BH tax slabs are different from state tax and its a fixed amount every 2 years. I dont think it would change for the tenure of your vehicle unless BH series road tax slabs itself are changed

Person A purchased Brezza VXI AT with BH number in Delhi and Person B purchased the same model at the same ex-showroom price in Bangalore with KA number.

Person A paid Rs 15,000 road tax for the first 2 years and will have to pay Rs 11,500 every two years as road tax. Total = 15000 + 11500*6.5 = 89,750
Person B paid Rs 2,00,000 road tax on day0

Person A is saving more than 1.1 L in road tax and if you add inflation adjustment, then person A is saving a lot more.

For the XUV7OO - BH series for 2 years is Rs.26000. In Karnataka, the lifetime road tax was 4.5L. Hypothetically, if BH series needs you to maintain the same payment cycle even after 15 years, you will need to go 36 years before it finally becomes more expensive than KA road tax.

How do I figure out this tax amount for any vehicle? Every dealer is still providing a price list with the lifetime tax. If I have to calculate this for any vehicle, how do I do that?

This image should help:
New "BH" series registration | For cars getting transferred from one state to another-bannerbharatseries7updated.jpeg

Note: The Invoice Price they are referring to should be the price of the vehicle without GST and Cess. However, a lot of RTOs are not following that norm and are applying it on the ex-showroom price.

I use this link, there are many such resources available online.
You can also use the calculation function mentioned on page 5 of the official notification.

Re: New "BH" series registration | For cars getting transferred from one state to another

We have two 2022 BH vehicles in the family registered in Delhi. Using the portal link discussed above, once you select Delhi, it goes to Delhi transport website instead of path to pay BH vehicle tax. I raised a complaint with Delhi transport department and they replied back asking to physically visit the RTO.

Yes, it gives an error -

"Alert !
Cannot pay tax for non transport vehicle."
