I live in karnataka and want to buy a car and have BH series number but karnataka govt is not issuing BH series numbers to private sector employees. So, I am thinking about buying a car in Bangalore with temp registration and registering it in Delhi as I have Delhi's address on my adhar card. I don't want to drive thousands of km or take the help of a packer and mover because of the risk of damage to the new car.

Does this mean I can register the vehicle in work city or hometown?
Say, I work in Bangalore and my home town is Delhi, can I buy car from Bangalore and register it in Delhi?
The car is not checked. I had taken the car on temporary registration, applied for BH later and got the number a month later. I never had to go the RTO to present the car.

However you cannot buy the car in Bangalore and register it in Delhi for BH even though the car is not required to be presented.

Reason: BH can only be applied by the Dealer in the portal. Even if they go to the RTO it is their credentials which will be used for applying for new registration. Hence no dealer in Delhi will be willing to apply it for you if they have not sold the car to you. Even if the dealer has a branch in Delhi, their GST numbers would be different and they cannot show it as a sale in Delhi.

You are better off going to Delhi, buying the car there and bring it to Bangalore. Thats what a lot of people I know did. Compared to the difference in Tax of BH vs KA it will still be way cheaper. From the next renewal start paying in Bangalore/KA.

This seems incorrect.

We bought our car and took delivery in Bangalore but got it registered in Mumbai. All it needed was for the dealership to give us an invoice being billed to Mumbai and apply for the temporary registration citing the final RTO as Mumbai.

The BH series registration happened without a hitch.

Do we have to take care of GST number or anything like that? I saw some posts on this forum about billing done for Karnataka SGST while registering in another state might be problematic.

When did you buy your car? and you bought your car from which dealership in Bangalore?

Where did you buy the insurance? I don't plan to take it from the car dealer. But many insurance companies don't provide cover for BH-series registered cars.

No, we did not have to do anything about GST. We just informed the dealership of what we intended to do. They handled the rest.

When - September 2022. Dealership was PPS Mahindra on Lavelle Road.

Technically, you get insurance before the vehicle is registered. Since registration is not possible without a valid insurance policy. So we did not face any issues.

We bought the insurance from Acko.

What you sais is correct. But today when I called Acko and said that I am planning to buy a new car and get it registered under BH series, the sales person told me they don’t provide insurance for vehicles with BH series registration. That sounded weird though.

However, in your case after you got the registration number under BH series, did you have to update it in the insurance portal/documents? If yes, did you face any issues/challenges regarding the same?

Not at all. All it took was one email and it was updated in less than 30 minutes and I was sent the revised policy copy. I'm genuinely surprised insurance companies are now making distinctions based on the type of registration!

It turns out that the person I initially spoke to wasn’t aware of it. Another salesperson from Acko called me and said that they offer insurance for BH series registered vehicles. I have hence purchased the policy and submitted for registration.

Thanks for your timely response.

Thanks @ashwin.terminat

One more question:
BH Series registration was charged on Ex-Showroom Price or Dealer invoice price(before GST and cess)?

Hi, I am buying a new car and going for BH series registration. However, the sales rep is saying the process is manual and going to take 4-5 days. So, I am thinking of taking charge of things here and getting the registration done by myself. I have all the documents in place. Could you please tell me how much time did it take to get the registration number after you submitted the documents to the RTO officer?

Re: New "BH" series registration | For cars getting transferred from one state to another

@deepcarlover I just enquired about the procedure for BH series as I was planning to buy VW TROC and BH series would have reduced the upfront price by almost 3 to 4lakhs. The deal didn't work out. So no idea how long it will take, but I remember dealer updated me about 3 4 days for the procedure.

Dealer invoice price for us But I understand it is not being uniformly followed across RTOs.

For the first 2 years, we paid only ~₹29,000 as road tax (For the XUV700 AX7L P AT, ex-showroom price was 22.75L at the time)

Re: New "BH" series registration | For cars getting transferred from one state to another

Anyone here managed to get a BH registration in Kerala? Sister works in a PSU bank and she wants to buy a scooter. I suggested to go for a BH registration since she is most likely to get transferred out of Kerala this year. Looks like Kerala RTOs are not in favor of BH registrations due to the loss in revenue.

In Delhi, BH Series registration is charged on Ex-Showroom Price or Dealer invoice price(before GST and cess)?
