What I expected it to have was a proper hybrid tech and not the Jugaad (makeshift) mild system and a proper 6 speed torque/CVT transmission and not the AMT type. However I welcome the 6 air bags and hope the build quality has improved to much better levels. Going by the feedback of Team BHP for the Celerio AMT maybe they have tuned the same to be less jerky.

They have shuffled the features to differentiate between the Baleno and the upcoming Crossover that will be based on the Baleno.

The speculated features of that CUV are Strong Hybrid, AT, etc.. and will slot above the Baleno in pricing.

That Crossover is likely to get different powertrains but I am not sure about transmissions. Haven't heard about Strong Hybrid either. In fact, there is significantly low amount of chatter about the crossover.

So the gross weight has shot up by 70 kg, which explains why the Dualjet engine's fuel economy has decreased to 22.35 km/l from 23.87 km/l. I guess MS really weren't joking when they claimed they improved the build (sheet metal) .

Good to see 6 airbags being offered not only in the top-spec Alpha trim but one below it as well (Zeta), let’s see once Maruti Suzuki has done it, will other manufacturers also follow suit.

And Automatic Climate control present even in the base Sigma trim!!

Thankfully they have retained projectors for the headlights, where anyone can change the unit according to their needs, unlike the fixed LED reflector units seen on many cars now.

I hope Maruti is offering ESP even on the MT variants. From the feature list distribution shared above, it says AGS only.

IIRC, there is not a single Maruti today that offers ESP with a manual transmission.

If MORTH has its way, they all will eventually have to give atleast 6 airbags anyway.Kia played it smart with the Carens. I expected the Baleno to follow suit, but they still havent gone all the way through. But I think we will now see this replicating with all new launches like Brezza, Wagon R (?) and refreshed versions of other OEM models.

I am sorry but neither the Carens nor the Alcazar is in line with the MORTH draft notification. Their Curtain Airbag covers the first two rows only whereas Government of India wants protection for all outboard passengers including 3rd row. As I understand, Hyundai and KIA have used common Airbag of Creta in Alcazar and maybe even Carens which serves only 2 rows.

Interesting to see dual tone interiors with a blue colour to be offered in India. First it was the Carens with beige/blue and now Baleno with black/blue.

• Dashboard design and layout is a huge improvement over the ongoing model. It was one of the weak points. Glad that Maruti has kept the dark colored design theme in the interiors.

• Seat fabric and design looks premium as well. I just love the support the front seats of the Swift and Baleno provides.

• Not clear in the pics but looks like it retains the temperature gauge.

• And still the same power window buttons. Why fix something that ain't broke, eh!

Now waiting for the existing owners to compare the sheet metal thickness with the ongoing model and post their observations.
