May be, but the additional gadgetries also will add to the weight, I guess.

I don't think Maruti will go back to the earlier times when their Ritz weighed 1000+ Kg (kerb weight). It definitely had thicker panels compared to current gen Marutis. Compare that to the kerb weight of current Baleno of 860Kg!

Definitely yes. Majority will be tech weight only. Yes, there are structural improvements, but not to the extent as seen in GVW difference.

Yes, it will. But most of the additional features / gadgets are plastic parts. Autocar had also confirmed Maruti has improved the build, waiting to experience it personally

re: 2022 Maruti-Suzuki Baleno, now launched at Rs. 6.35 lakh

70 kg weight gain cannot be attributed to gadgets alone. There has to be a substantial change in the structure or sheet metal thickness all across on the Baleno to make it put on these extra kilos.

The current gen Baleno is a great VFM car, save for the light build and structural stability. Despite this, aggressive marketing by Tata and customer awareness on safer cars, it has outsold its competitors by a huge margin. Not to forget, it is sold through the thinner(compared to Arena/Hyundai) Nexa chain. It has also seen the top podium spot on many occasions too.

Let us hope that the new one takes this legacy forward, only with a better and safe build.

Its actually the rear quarter glass which has been shortened, and not the doors which are extending.

I think what this OBD-I means is the first stage of OBD based emission detection with respect to BS6 emissions that will last till 2023 when the second phase of BS-6 emission norms kick in resulting in a change of OBD emissions detection parameters to OBD-II.

The OBD-2 you are referring to is the port where the scanning tool is connected. Even BS-4 cars and BS-3 cars have had OBD-2 port. That OBD is the hardware standards similar to DIN-1 and DIN-2 size standards in car audio systems.

Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

Edit- Found a publication from Google. See the heading Euro-VI OBD requirements. So OBD emissions detection is seemingly OBD-1 and OBD-2 in context of two stages of BS-6 norms implementation.

Thanks for correcting me.
Yes, I was referring to the OBD Scanning port where OBD 2 has been the standard.

Even this link has information on the same. OBD 2 to be applicable from 1st April 2023.

New Baleno dimensions:

Quote:
The 2022 Baleno sits on a 2,520mm wheelbase and is 3,990mm long, 1,500mm high and 1,745mm wide.

This means that the new car shares the same wheelbase as the outgoing model, but is actually 5mm narrower and 10mm shorter than the outgoing model.

customer deliveries by early March.
Seems safety( airbags) will be revealed shortly!

AGS mention in the slide also confirms the AMT variant! Quite sad for a car to take a back step from CVT to AMT.

6 Airbag penetration is likely to be in close to 50% of total volumes of Baleno as informed by people in the know.

These mileage figures means it's not equipped with smart hybrid. It's same engine and start stop system we have in the new Swift.

re: 2022 Maruti-Suzuki Baleno, now launched at Rs. 6.35 lakh

Why on earth will they go backward in terms of automatic transmission? On one hand we are getting news of Brezza, XL6, etc getting a six speed TC unit ditching the old four speed one and then Baleno, a very successful product, getting an AMT from an erstwhile CVT tech.
