Ah ok, noted. I thought since the ICE component still requires a transmission, there's a possibility that the car comes with 3 pedals (guessing not)

Fixed Ratio Gear - does this mean there will be no response on the pick up speed when the accelerator pedal is pushed hard?

Full and instantaneous response can be expected. The car drives like an EV for all practical purposes, with the electric motor powering the wheels a vast majority of time. Flooring the pedal unleashes the max torque of the system, which is available instantly. The claimed 0-100 time for the Thai spec car is 9.xx seconds. That makes it quicker than the 1.5 iVTEC.

re: Honda City Hybrid | Unveiled on 14th April 2022

I've got a 4th Generation City, and I'm extremely keen to exchange this for the hybrid. Called the Cherish Honda Showroom in Delhi, apparently the booking amount is Rs. 21000 and the waiting period, he claimed, was 2 months already. Is this true?

Also said that due to semiconductor shortages it will definitely impact the delivery if you plan to go fully through it. Also said that this car will be launched within a month. Seems like he wasn't aware of Honda unveil on the 14th of April.

As I explained earlier, it will depend on the speed. From start you can expect very good acceleration. Also perhaps at all urban speeds. On the highway as speeds increase, the throttle response would get duller. Electric motors have the highest starting torque, which is rather constant for a range and after that drops down steadily. Hence you can expect that behaviour with any electric car. However the direct engine coupling part is something I have no experience with. Either it would help compensate for this loss of torque at higher speeds, or it would really stand out and work alone powering the car without the burden of the charging system and replenishing the battery.

New Honda City Hybrid : Five things to know about

Likely to be one of the most efficient cars in India.

Quote:
Expect an ARAI figure in India of at least 25-26kpl, making it easily the most efficient car of its size. And don’t be surprised if it proves to be more efficient in the real world than even some of the most efficient hatchbacks, especially in slow start-stop traffic, where it runs like an EV.
Honda City Hybrid | Unveiled on 14th April 2022-hondacityhybridfe.jpg

Has no gearbox

Quote:
To increase efficiency, Honda has ditched the transmission altogether. It has no CVT, no planetary gearset and no set of gear wheels either; it just has a single direct gear for high-speed driving. In place of the gearbox, there are two electric motors that are sandwiched together and attached to the end of the engine. The motor/generator combo then makes electricity as the engine turns it and then stores it in the battery at the rear.

Wheels are not connected to the engine, for the most part

Quote:
Power goes to the wheels via the electric motor. In fact, the engine is often going at one speed and the wheels another.

To get the wheels to spin, power is sent to the electric motor from the battery in the rear. As a result, 95 percent of the energy saved as electricity makes it to the wheels.

The electric system puts out 109HP

Quote:
The powertrain is completely different from what one normally expects of a hybrid. Consisting of a 1.5-litre petrol that puts out just 98hp and runs a more efficient ‘Atkinson cycle,’ the engine is aided by an electric motor that puts out a really strong 109hp. This clearly is no mild hybrid. The maximum combined power of the engine and the e-motor aren’t disclosed, but Honda does specify a maximum combined torque at 253Nm; the engine making 127Nm and the electric motor 253Nm.

It will come with ADAS systems

Quote:
Apart from cruise control, which helps you maintain a consistent speed on a highway, this car also gets other ADAS features. Honda calls this suite of features Honda Sensing, and it will be available on the car in India. It will offer features like lane-keeping assist which will help keep the car centered in the lane and will also warn you in case you have your hands off the wheel for more than a few seconds, adaptive cruise control that will adjust your speed to maintain a set distance from the vehicle ahead and autonomous emergency braking.uo

re: Honda City Hybrid | Unveiled on 14th April 2022

I have some questions:

How does the no gearbox part work? Will this be auto like all other electric cars ?

How does this impact maintenance ? Will it be similar to ivtec or higher?

re: Honda City Hybrid | Unveiled on 14th April 2022

So I watched a bunch of videos on the City Hybrid and what I noticed is the engine note sounds like a regular automatic during hard acceleration (with fake shifts that is) at speeds under 100kmph. It's during kickdown ABOVE 100kmph speeds that we start hearing the erratic revving of the engine which seemingly does not correspond to the accelerator input.

Seems the intrusive engine noise will take some getting used to. Hope it will not be a deal breaker for many.

Is the speedometer in miles or KMs? The engine sounds like its doing 150+ but speedo is showing 70 to 90

It's like engine sound is Hulk and the performance is Groot

But on other note, car seems to be handling pretty well. Might be coz its RS version. Hope they get the RS too, even if in small numbers.

Cant wait to see the reviews of Indian model

Funny how he complains about bikers changing lanes and then goes on to drive like in a rally track changing two lanes at once without any indication and almost trying to maintain a racing line.

Regarding engine sound at different revs, I think one has to drive it himself to get the experience. That too a relatively longer test drive. No review can give you a proper picture. If the car can give higher mileage figure on Indian roads, I think it can convert some suv buyers also like someone thinking of getting a creta or seltos etc.

re: Honda City Hybrid | Unveiled on 14th April 2022

Although the media houses confirm the Honda Sensing module in the upcoming city but the official posts seem to omit it. Considering all the hype around it during the XUV700 launch, shouldn’t Honda be highlighting it as well?

Does this by any chance indicate towards the fact that it isn’t coming in India?
