Maruti Suzuki production back on track as chip supply sorted

Maruti Suzuki's production is expected to be back to normal levels in the coming months as chip supplies have improved.

According to a media report, Maruti has ramped up production of the Swift, Dzire, Vitara Brezza and other models. It is likely to produce around 1.50 lakh units in November 2021, which is close to the monthly average production. It is said that December output could be even higher.

Maruti Suzuki's output had dropped 50-60% in September and October due to the global semiconductor shortage. However, production has been slowly picking up since then. October output was 40% higher than September, while November output is expected to be 20% more than the previous month. Currently, the carmaker is said to have an order backlog of around 2.50 lakh units.

Re: Maruti: Chip shortage may lead to massive production cut

Chip woes cost Maruti Suzuki 116,000 units in Q2, profit down 65%.

Quote:
The company's order-books during the same period stood at upwards of 200,000 vehicles. However, Maruti Suzuki management expects production to be ramped up in November 2021, helping to somewhat ease the situation going forward.

Regarding the below media report:
https://www.team-bhp.com/news/maruti...-supply-sorted

The situation is not good, I am a direct supplier to MSIL, we have been operating at 60% capacity this last 1 month.

The media reports are merely a "Diwali Sales" improvement tactic. The same for 2-wheeler companies (Hero and HMSI), sales this time are going to be extremely poor.

Maruti's production output to be at 80% in December 2021

Maruti Suzuki expects its production output to decline by 20% in December 2021.

Maruti: Chip shortage may lead to massive production cut-marutisuzukiplantfeatured.jpg

The ongoing chip shortage has adversely affected vehicle production. This month, Maruti's total vehicle production could be around 80-85% of normal levels.

Maruti is yet to release its production numbers for the month of November. However, despite the festive rush, production is expected to be down by up to 15%.

In October this year, Maruti Suzuki's overall output dropped by 26% to 1,34,779 units. In September, production had declined by 51% to 81,278 units.

Re: Maruti: Chip shortage may lead to massive production cut

Just as we thought Suzuki's troubles with semi conductor shortages are over, there was a press release from Suzuki here in Japan, that factories in Kosai and Sagara were likely to be shut for a couple of days in February end due to shortage of parts including semiconductors. The vehicles affected would be Spacia, Hustler, Wagon-R, Ignis, Solio and X-Bee.

No wonder the India unit of Suzuki has back orders as the overall group Semiconductor intake has still not stabilized leading to loss of production almost every month.

Re: Maruti: Chip shortage may lead to massive production cut

Chip fabs are slowing down manufacturing due to order cuts yet only car manufacturers are facing chip shortages ? I know they are different process nodes but still. Production capacity must definitely have normalised by now. I can't believe the fabs were earlier producing exactly 100/100 of the required semiconductors without the ability to produce more for spares, etc
