PowerDrift mentions Team-BHP | History of the Thar video

In the latest Power Drift video Cyrus Dhabhar, son of late Mr.Behram Dhabhar mentions Team-BHP and it's small connection to the inception and development of the Thar.

Cyrus says that Mr.Behram Dhabar posted on the forum asking for what people are looking for in the Thar.

I personally never knew this story and it was great to hear from Cyrus on this. But I hope the seniors here would have posted on his thread. Does anyone recollect?

Not an offroading guy but I too came across this after seeing PD video. So glad to see the role team-bhp had played during thar development. Will surely read the archived thread.

"Small Connection" ?
I would say, "major contribution" to the development of the Thar. Behram Dhabhar himself said so while launching the Thar. He also specifically called out moderator Samurai (Sharath) as seen in the video.

The great man, may he rest in peace, embodied the 'listen to your customers and give them a product they want' philosophy.

The entire industry can learn a lot from him.

Re: PowerDrift mentions Team-BHP | History of the Thar video

The thread referenced with 150K views in the video was perhaps the most popular thread then.

I always wanted to buy a Thar then, but couldn’t imagine one without an A/C and a hard too. I used to follow and read every single post in that thread for as long as it existed. Such was BD’s passion, response and everything to the forum, along with our enthusiasts who actively used to write.

I’m a very proud owner of the new Thar now. When I took delivery, I do remember so many topics from that thread. I might not have contributed to that, but remember every single ask and the explanations there of.

So, a major contribution indeed.

Re: PowerDrift mentions Team-BHP | History of the Thar video

Interesting, thanks for posting the videos saikarthik and samaspire and for the thread Crazydriver. Yes, I was very much on teambhp when the thread was opened by Mr Behram Dabhar and am also a 4X4 man. But I checked all the 300 plus posts but could'nt find any post by me. That startles me ! I regret not having posted anything there !

Mahindra needs to keep the Thar alive with regular refreshes and newer models in keeping up with the times. Indeed, the Mahindra CJ 340 DP Classic of the 1990's, based on the archaic CJ 3B body and chassis, mated to a 2112 cc Peugeot diesel was perhaps ahead of its times, but only as a concept, not with its fossilsed, archaic assembly. It sold in miniscule numbers that might have deterred M&M from taking up the Thar upon Mr Behram's insistence. But the age old CJ 340 DP's are in great demand in the used car market these days. Very few are seen.

It also shows that Mahindra needs a Behram Dabhar to tell them what product the market expects from them. Their own marketing team it appears was then in slumber. And lastly, Mr Behram was an engineer at M&M and not a marketing man.

Re: PowerDrift mentions Team-BHP | History of the Thar video

While I was late to the party and bought a Thar in 2014, but had gone through those threads where so much of information was shared/discussed by Team-BHP. A great source of information for Old Gen Thar owners and a very valuable contribution by many experts from the Jeep world.

While the new Thar is modern and meets the specs and requirement of many, the only thing Mr. Behram Dabhar would not have liked is its departure from the MM design which he mentions very specifically during the Thar Launch video above.

Anyways, there is a proper off-roader available for us and it would continue to be.

I had no clue he would call me out like that. There were plenty of other more knowledgeable members who gave lot more valuable feedback compared to me. But I always kept cribbing to him about the long drives I needed to make to reach the offroad spots, which Thar addressed.

The thread highlighted in the Cyrus video was the one that initiated the whole thing. You can see we closed the thread at the end. There were actually 6-7 more Thar threads we had to shutdown because things kept getting out of control. All this was before Thar was launched. For over a year, 90% of the 4x4 section was only about Thar, until it was launched.

The Alfa Kilo and EXAMM events mentioned the videos were held in 2010, and incident they mention can be seen here.

Re: PowerDrift mentions Team-BHP | History of the Thar video

Wasn't a member at that time, I should have tried to join and said Hi, I regret it now. I was following the Thar thread from the outside since the CRDe launch, I bought mine without even a test drive.

It is everything he said it is and more, my last vehicle as far as I`m allowed to drive it.

Anand recognized BD Sir`s efforts just in time, adding more fuel to Thar being a product of passion than just another UV.

Re: PowerDrift mentions Team-BHP | History of the Thar video

Had dinner with Behram sir in pune, all thanks to Gajanan Chitale and Sudarshan Vaidya.

He came in a silver Tata Vista which had a custom steering wheel. (autoexpo display car IMO)

I just listened for next 2 hours.. (didn't even take any picture which i always do)

creation of thar, the 521, some tata stuff..

BTW he as not treated very well in MM even after thars success, so much so that he left company and joined TATA. (sad)

Re: PowerDrift mentions Team-BHP | History of the Thar video

Those Who were part of Team-BHP Or Who was just a lurker will definitely remember the posts of Behram Sir. Right From Fiat 1100 / Premier Padmini Thread To the development of Thar, Behram Sir Used To Help, Advice, And Acknowledge Every Bit Of it.

IIRC, Behram Sir Also Played Instrumental Role In Acquiring 2.5L Diesel Engine For GTO's Jeep Classic 4x4

Lovely nostalgia here. I got quite a bit from my wishlist for the Thar (or rather MM550 hypothetical relaunch then). See post #29 in that thread. Makes me smile. Good times.

Re: PowerDrift mentions Team-BHP | History of the Thar video

There was a time when I had plan to buy original 540/550 and wanted to restore it to my own taste. I had read numerous posts from BD sir and was impressed with the knowledge and dedication this gentleman had.
