Maruti Suzuki has announced the launch of a new limited edition model called the WagonR Xtra. It is based on the VXi variant and prices start at Rs. 5.13 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).



The WagonR Xtra is basically a VXi variant which comes with additional accessories that are fitted at the dealer level. It gets front and rear bumper protectors, side skirts, wheel arch cladding, body side mouldings and chrome garnish on the front and rear.

On the inside, the car comes equipped with what Maruti refers to as an "interior styling kit". It consists of an air inflator, trunk organizer and car charge extender.

The WagonR Xtra is available with either a 1.0-litre petrol engine that makes 67 BHP @ 5,500 rpm and 90 Nm @ 3,500 rpm or a 1.2-litre unit that puts out 82 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm @ 4,200 rpm. Both engines are offered with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT.

MSIL and even all OEM's should stop this outdated special edition's marketing. No point of doing it. Already the dealer fixed accessories quality is bad. My dealer fitted full floor mat got torn in 10days. This will end up as poor strategy aiming for small premium.

Why VXi only? These are a few external accessories applied at the dealer level, why can't they be applied to any variant?

Whats a "car charge extender"?
I thought it was something to extend the battery life till I read the engine specs.

That said India's largest car manufacturer continues to innovate when it comes to safety. The addition of bumper protectors, side skirts, wheel arch cladding and body side mouldings will make the limited edition WagonR one of the safest small Marutis ever launched.

How are those wheel arch claddings fixed?
Are they fixed by drilling holes into the metal panel, or simply glued on?

So Maruti moved from Stickers to fittings. Good development on their side. I see this as an inventory clean up rather than anything. Now this Xtra sales will bring some more Xtra variants in their line up.

Another limited edition car from Maruti. I believe MSIL is the only car maker which has launched the most number of limited edition models in India's automotive history.
