BMW has launched the new M5 Competition facelift in the Indian market. It is priced at Rs 1.62 crore (ex-showroom, India).
The new BMW M5 Competition now comes with a number of updates and revisions over the previous model. This includes a new twin L-shaped LED DRLs integrated with the brand's laser LED headlamps, smoked LED tail lamps, new 20-inch M-light alloy wheels, black inserts on the rear bumper and black chrome tailpipes. Along with this, the new M5 Competition also comes with its kidney grille, ORVM caps and rear spoiler all finished in gloss black. The performance sedan features black M5 Competition badging all around as well.
On the inside, the BMW M5 Competition facelift is offered with premium leather upholstery options. The M5 Competition comes with M-multifunction seats with the illuminated M logo. Other M-specific parts include the seat belts, footrest and steering wheel.
There are plenty of other standard features as well. These include electrically adjustable seats with memory function and seat heating, electric sunroof, four-zone climate control, automatic tailgate and rear-seat entertainment system.

Powering the new BMW M5 Competition is a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine. It produces 616 BHP and 750 NM, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. BMW claims that the M5 Competition can accelerate from 0 - 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds.
Customers of the BMW M5 Competition will also gain exclusive membership to the 'BMW Excellence Club'. It will offer programs such as bespoke travel, the high life, grandstand and other BMW privileges.
The BMW M5 Competition will be imported to India via the CBU route. It rivals the likes of the Mercedes-AMG E63 S.

On a lighter note, 1 Cr+ extra for 1.1s faster 0-100 than the M340i. Of course 0-100 is one of many performance dimensions.
Does this have the same 8 speed gearbox as the 3-series?

100-200 is 5 seconds faster than M340i :D
Thank god they stuck with the kidney grille on this one, unlike the lungs they used on M4 Competition.

Well noted :thumbs up. What impresses me about these beasts is how they accelerate above 100 kmph. You should hear stories from the Mods of the times they've had at Buddh. Viewing that long straight road ahead with a big turbo V8 & experiencing the relentless / brutal power delivery is an experience to be cherished. Nothing comes close.
I hope the ride quality of this M5 is comparable to the one we tested. With a compliant ride + 4 doors + boot + 6 year warranty, this is genuinely an everyday car.

When you drive both, can assure you that difference is huge. When I went for a test drive of M340 for, first time, I could floor the accelerator pedal right to the end, try this in an M5 :)

Similar family but with much higher torque, here's the list of what they use. Things may have changed internally a bit.

Yes, and even from a standstill, these are a little quicker than what BMW say, I think M5C does 0-100 in around 3,2. But yes, the way it will move from 150 and beyond has to be experienced.

If you are referring to the red one, it was from 2018 and will be a regular M5. From 2019 we get M5-C as standard. I find the ride absolutely fine in everyday conditions. Though on paper, Competition is supposed to be stiffer. I think the changes are visible more in Sports / + settings. In comfort mode, it's more and less similar. LCI has taken some components from the 8 series so I won't be surprised if it's even more comfortable. BMW engineers have understood clearly that they have more people buying this car for everyday use than as a track car so they have fine-tuned it more for on-road use rather than for track or at least looks to me.

:thumbs up. Absolutely, one of my most favourite and used cars. You can take this car practically anywhere you will take your regular 5 series.
Sadly, the options add to the costs quickly. As an example, some of the regular colours like Tanzanite blue costs 6 Lac, you have to pay 1,75 for comfort access (keyless) and 1,25 for a soft close. Full leather merino costs about 10 Lac and is absolutely mandatory if you like soft-touch surfaces. Similarly, seat ventilation will like 1,5 Lac and that B&W system about 7. A nicely configured car can cost you between 1,8-1,85 if you don't add those ceramic brakes (15 lac option)
But this beats anything else in this and beyond. 911 Carrera & S can't come close to this. People who vouch for Porsche handling actually need to drive this beast once.
Considering where we live and how everyone (except enthusiasts) hates cars, I'd say 1.65 is really reasonable for a CBU F90. But hey, I can only afford an m340i, when it's 7 years old. :P
1.62cr is not a bad price especially for a CBU. This thing is $260k here in Australia due to our stupid luxury car tax. The Model S Plaid is actually 30k cheaper than this and a whole lot more faster than this as well with perhaps better range on a full tank vs full battery.
That price is actually quite a surprise for such a capable car. In fact it is funny that family cars now have 600+ HP. Totally crazy!
Tech Specification & equipment list of new M5 competition.

Sir, what would be your take on an Alpina B5 vs this one? I have very limited experience with high end cars but from what I've read, the alpinas ride far more supple and are more suited for everyday use.
I believe despite the limited numbers those cars are manufactured in, BMW India should provide choice of same for the customers. But again, the super low profile alpina wheels would be impractical for our roads.

I have no experience with Alpina's but the problem is lack of demand and recently allocations. I know of certain people who wanted to have M5CS but BMW India could not get any slots.
M5 is super comfortable if we have to compare this with anything else in this segment and beyond. The newer one will only be better, this article sums nicely.

The M340i is adequate for our Indian roads
With a killer price. For someone who wants a mix of practicality and fun, that being said bmw India should take the CKD route for their other M cars as well clap:
Hi guys, I'm looking at the new face lift BMW M5 Competition.
In Europe, the new face lift version sounds dead because of the emission norms. They now come with the Otto Particulate Filter/Gasoline Particulate Filter, which pretty much kills the sound.
But, the very same car in the USA does not come with this filter, hence it sounds spectacular.
My question, are the German cars being imported in India coming with the OPF/GPF, or are we getting the American version??
I'm sure someone on this forum has an answer for this, the showroom guys are clueless.
Thanks!
