The Magnite was launched in December last year. The model has received a positive response in the Indian market with bookings crossing the 50,000 units mark in April 2021.

As per the latest figures, Nissan's Oragadam plant in Tamil Nadu has produced 15,010 units of the Magnite. These include 13,790 units sold in India and 1,220 units that were exported to international markets.

The Magnite was launched in Nepal in February this year. Within the first month, the carmaker received over 760 bookings, in a country where about 1,580 cars are sold every month. The crossover made its debut in the South African market in April 2021.

In India, the Magnite is available with two engine options. These include a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine that puts out 71 BHP and 96 Nm and a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo petrol unit that makes 99 BHP and 160 Nm. Both engines are offered with a 5-speed manual transmission. The crossover is also offered with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) mated to the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. In the CVT version, peak torque has been limited to 152 Nm.

Nissan wants some action to be in the news, I guess.

Nissan had launched the Magnite in Indonesia back in January. ASEAN NCAP even tested that car and the certificate shows it to be of Indian origin. Doesn't add up that exports just commenced now - a full five months after the launch?

Magnite is being sold in Nepal for last few months and I see a couple of them in my office parking lot. The local Nissan dealer is an acquaintance of mine and he is quite happy with the sales. Kicks is also more popular here than in India I guess. Kiger is priced 1 lac NPR cheaper than Magnite. Once Kiger sales resume after lockdown, Magnite will have difficulty in keeping up the momentum.

The link below shows the XV 1.3 turbo Kicks that I test drove for a colleague yesterday.

Perhaps they exported the first batch and then got interrupted thanks to the Chinese virus?
Whatever it is, I am glad production is booming. We desperately need businesses to run to revive the economy.

While the Magnite seems to be a brilliant product very reasonably priced, the long term reliability of its CVT-turbo combination will have to be evaluated after a few years. The car comes with all the essential and nice features in the top variants, some reviews indicate its inferior interiors though. But then, certain compromises will have to be made to keep the costs under check.

By looking at the countries lists, it is clear that RNAIPL is yet to make LHD (Left hand Drive) variant for RHT ( right hand traffic) market which constitutes to 165 countries! We can see more numbers if they start making LHD cars!

The former colonies and the countries that retained the British influence drive on the left hand side of the road.

Majority of the countries drive on the right hand side of the road. IMO the Magnite may not be looked favorably in the Middle East countries due to its smaller size and small engine options.

I feel they are targeting countries where it is acceptable to have small cars with relatively small engines.

Well, not really. Except for North America and GCC nations, most other countries driving on the right hand side will lap up small engined small cars. Even cars exported from India like the smaller Suzukis, Hyundais, Nissans sell decently in GCC nations.

I guess the LHD versions of the Magnite/Kiger production maybe alloted to the Brazilian division, as there is no other reason why RNAIPL can't make a LHD version.

Re: Made-in-India Nissan Magnite exports commence

A very good product from Nissan, good to see its exports gaining momentum, afterall good for 'make in India!'
I always believed that most of the Nissan mass products like Micra, Sunny, Terrano, Evalia, and Kicks were good products in their segments. A known person owns a Sunny he is always gaga over its reliability and comfort and he says service cost is not expensive at all, the other car in his garage is a first gen Figo, so you can understand that there is great parity in this statement.
The problem with most Nissan products was that they were over optimistic in pricing atleast at launches, and product update cycle was slow.
There was a time when Nissan had atleast 4 cars catering to 4 different segments on their display floors in their showroom, yet they coudn't generate footfalls. Today they have only 2 cars, thats not enough to generate footfalls and influence buyers. Nissan knows this and maybe thats why the Magnite despite being a wonderful product sells just 2.5-3k models at an average per month, and thats where these exports are a breather to Nissan, which helps them a tiny bit to sustain the volumes on the assembly floor. Yet similar was the story with micra and the sunny, and you see their fate today. I hope Nissan doesnt miss the train in launching more products, I know they will but it should be quick. Look at the EV bandwagon and look at how Tatas have well played it, Nissan was already established in this sector, yet they do not have a roadmap for EV portfolio in India. Imagine the volumes they can sell and export if they seriously focus on making their EVs in India.

Re: Made-in-India Nissan Magnite exports commence

Not sure how these companies manage production planning. They have a huge waiting list , how would they carve out export number? Are exports that profitable for them? why not use other plants of Renault, I am sure all will not be loaded with orders as Indian one.. curious....
