The much awaited big daddy - S-class being launched third week June!

In predictable MBIL style it will come in as a CBU Launch Edition aka rip off edition Offered in a fully loaded AMG kitted out version with a 2 seat config at the rear, rear wheel steering,etc. Two engines on offer S450 petrol and S400d diesel.

Good to see some interesting colors for interior and exterior. Love the emerald green exterior and brown leather interior.

No idea on the pricing but rest assured this will be the model where MBIL has the heftiest margins to milk the eager beavers who want the first edition.

I hope MBIL considers the economic impact of the pandemic and launches the CKD version at a sensible pricing which should be at par or at a marginal premium over existing version.

It's probably 12th or 15th June. So, in all their wisdom, it's going to be priced higher than the outgoing Maybach

Prices will be around 2,20 - 2,24 and we can book the car with the dealerships. In fact, many dealers have limited allocations of which most are spoken. CKD will be around 80 lac cheaper and there are bookings with dealers already.

Wow, just wow. This car looks sweet and has a classy upscale interiors which also gets tonne of new age features. I am sure, this will turn out/continue to be the new favorite of business tycoons and page 3 folks!
Downside- Wish Mercedes gave a different exteriors treatment for its E and C. While the S is undoubtedly superior and in a different league, similar face robs its exclusivity to good extent.

The darker colours look better on this car considering its huge size compared to the white or silver, which is plain bland. The green and red mostly look black, until there is sunlight when the metallic pearls show the real colour. Looks fantastic. But the pricing At least they are offering the higher powered diesel since the 300d is just not exciting for a car this size. In comparison, the 400D as well as 450 Petrol make this car feel a lot lighter and compact. And I can continue dreaming about buying such a car someday

But for the first few lucky ones to get this car, it will be one of the best show-off tools within the community and family. I can bet on that.

Just like how there are folks who purchase a new innova to replace an older innova, the S-Class too has plenty of repeat customers. Each generation of S-Class tends to blow the competition out of the water. There is nothing else like it and is the car to have. Though there are divided opinions on the exterior, this one will sure fly off the shelves. On a side note, the outgoing w222 is still a stunner today and is a beautiful car.

The first batch of owners will be truly proud of their machines and is definitely a symbol that everyone takes notice of. Arriving in a Black S Class is one the biggest statement one can make as far as car ownership goes.

2.20 Crores?! I'm here after the launch of the GLS Maybach which is for 2.43 Crores, I don't think people who can go for a 2.24 Crore S Class would not prefer spending 20 lakhs more for a bigger car, with the Maybach name.

CKD prices hopefully should kick in soon.

This is the launch edition, which will come with a few more goodies as per Sahil's post to differentiate them from the regular S Class variants which would probably be priced closer to the A8/LS.

That being said, in terms of overall experience, the S Class has always been superior to the GL/GLS in it's prior iterations, and I don't expect it to change. This launch edition S LWB with it's individual rear seats will most likely be a better place to be in than the GLS Maybach.

Fair enough, opinion respected

And I agree that there was no comparison between the S and the GLS previously, and it's not what they advertise it as as "the S Class of SUVs". The craze for SUVs nowadays, plus a name like the Maybach, drove me into that opinion.

Pretty sure CKD prices will solve it.

This is the epitome of luxury vehicles! Truly an amazing car. The green shade looks regal.

An interesting anecdote I'd like to share on the S-class.
In one of my previous organizations, for the annual sales awards, we had told the winners that we will arrange for pick up and drop from their homes to the event venue.

Little did they know that a spanking new black S class will be coming to pick them up. It was truly the highlight for them and their families and when I recently met one of those guys, he says his son still fawns over the "Mercedes S Class" from Papa's office!

Maybe its just me but I dislike the portrait oriented center consoles. If there was some way to integrate them better into the flow lines perhaps then it would have looked better. But what a beauty this car is!

I think the GLS MB gives you some more cabin room and the practicality of an SUV. Beyond that, its the S-Class which steals every other trophy in the game. And with respect to technology, the 223 is a full generation ahead of the GLS. I only hope there are no teething trouble in the car else it will a horror to fix with all the sophistication. I believe this car would have 100+ ECUs. And with that rear axle steering, it makes the S class turn around like a small car in traffic. Forget all that with the GLS

Wow! Absolutely fantastic car! It will take days just to read about all the technology that went into this car, and all the features it has :-) This is a lovely car.

Well said, and I agree 100%. I also dislike the portrait screens in the car. That shape just does not gel with the horizontal flow of the dashboard designs. If I am not wrong, this trend started with Tesla. They probably did these portrait screens just to stand out from others that time. And now that trend is catching up.

Maybe one could argue that portrait is actually the right shape to optimally display all the information. For example, Google Maps navigation has better space optimized screen in portrait mode. But still, visually I just somehow do not like this.

Just when you thought the 'Best Car in the World' couldn't get any better, Mercedes refines it further and adds boat load of technological advances what with digital lighting, frontal seatbags, mbux, max angle for rear axle steering, 4D sounding music system and what not!
Looks sweet too. A perfect car for the business man!

QQ: Are these portrait centre console screens adjustable for angle? Not that MB wouldn't know, but wondering if shorter drivers would face glare?

No. The screen is fixed. But it would not cause any glare issues.
