Re: Toyota's future plans for India

This name is going to be a bit of a meme up-north.

Agya means permission in Hindi/Sanskrit.
It can, depending on pronunciation also be read as aa gaya, which means (have come).

Toyota Agya le ke aa gaya? (Translation: Toyota you have come with have come; or Toyota, you have come with permission)

Re: Toyota's future plans for India

This will be rechristened into Suzuki's Bhaag Ya...

Jokes aside, interesting that they are looking at it as an EV. Guess only the Tigor Ev will be it's competition in that hatch EV space. Don't see any other manufacturer entering it soon.

Is it me or does anybody else feel that this looks similar to the Grand i10, especially the side profile (not the nios, the old one)?

Re: Toyota's future plans for India

I am never a fan of Toyota's design philosophy, even it's international models are boring (except few).

For me, exterior looks similar to Etios LIVA with body kit. No where close to international models of Honda Jazz or Nissan Micra !!

Just saw 2020 Toyota Agya video. This car looks really outdated. And the interior design has so much Maruti Vibe in it. I really doubt this thing can sell in 2022.

Wow, what an ugly looking piece of machinery. I would prefer an Etios Liva over this; at least the design was understated.

This is like taking us back to the 80s.

Re: Toyota's future plans for India

Looks like Toyota is hell bent on diluting their brand image in India. They have never been known for their snazzy designs, but this one is the epitome of the word ‘boring’. This car was introduced in Indonesia and Philippines way back in 2011, so by the time they launch it in India, it would be an 11 year old model! We often criticise VW for selling the same old Polo for the past 10 years, and here we have the great Toyota, trying to introduce an 11 year old model as a new product.
Those flap type door handles look ultra cheap.

They must realise that we are no longer in the Contessa/NE118 days wherein a globally dated product would be acceptable. The Qualis sold well because India didn’t have better options back then. But in the year 2021, we have thoroughly modern and competitive hatchbacks like the Swift, Grand i10 Nios, Tata Altroz etc. how on earth does Toyota expect this car to sell? Even as an EV, it will have to fight it out against modern cars like the Nexon EV, Altroz EV and XUV300 EV. Sorry Toyota, but the ‘T’ badge is not enough to sell an old economy car. The Indian market is NOT a dumping ground.

Looks like that and an Alto 800 mashed up. Not sure how Indians will perceive this design, should this car hit the market.

Re: Toyota's future plans for India

These are sold in Indonesia and probably are the cheapest cars after Datsun. They look cheap. There is also an extended 7 seater version, which looks horribly disproportionate. Thin metal sheets, bad design all around. Apparently designed in Indonesia with a certain price target.
Toyota wants to break into the small market in India with whatever products they have.

Re: Toyota's future plans for India

The exteriors of that Agya aren't too shabby, but who designs cars with flap style door handles in 2022. Interiors are where the outdated vibe creeps in. But frankly that instrument cluster and ac vents with the touch screen display has Yaris design cues all over them. Now if Toyota is looking at a Wagon R competitor then its still OK, but from their Yaris experience they may be looking at the lower premium hatch segment, which with this car is DOA IMO.

Re: Toyota's future plans for India

The smallest hatchback of Toyota called AYGO sold in Europe is a much better looking small car. It's a fact that Toyota makes the most reliable cars globally. We don't get all of their nice products here in India, sadly. I think they should bring the internationally sold Yaris (the hatchback) and the beautiful Yaris Cross Hybrid instead!

Re: Toyota patents Agya hatchback’s design in India

Dear Toyota,

I love you to bits, I adore your after sales service, I admire the utter reliability of your cars, I am in awe of your engineering standards....but, but, every fan has a limit be it a Rallis fan, an Orient fan or a Toyota fan. Pray, I beg you why, but why are you such a laggard in the external looks department. You are like that school mate who is a wonderful human being, great at studies but lacking at everything else. Alas Toyota tou kab sudhare ga {when will you learn and reform}.

I have no doubt this car will sell well. The cabin looks well appointed at first glance. I'm sure the engine will give no cause for complain. But that frontispis.

Your sincerely
Toyota Fan
