Toyota Agya le ke aa gaya? (Translation: Toyota you have come with have come; or Toyota, you have come with permission)

Jokes aside, interesting that they are looking at it as an EV. Guess only the Tigor Ev will be it's competition in that hatch EV space. Don't see any other manufacturer entering it soon.
Sigh. One hand we have threads mentioning how few indian cars have indian names and on the other hand this.

I guess some people will never be happy!

Geez, can't even crack a joke these days without being called upon.

If the car serves my purpose, I will buy it irrespective of what it is called unless it's something really offensive in my local place. Manufacturers can't go overboard with names in the local language.

Just OT: Got my vaccination done during Tika Utsav and I request you to google "Tika" meaning in Kannada. Joke of a similar kind.

Mods: Sorry if this is really OT. Feel free to delete.

Re: Toyota's future plans for India

Is it the Celerio? Looks like the front is modified.

Just saw 2020 Toyota Agya video. This car looks really outdated. And the interior design has so much Maruti Vibe in it. I really doubt this thing can sell in 2022.

Re: Toyota patents Agya hatchback’s design in India

So Toyota's 'brand new' small car for India is a 2012 Daihatsu Ayla
Toyota had so many design options to make it looks 'acceptable' but seems like they zeroed on the one seen in the video posted above!!

This is how it could have looked like.

Does Toyota really need this when they can slap the T badge on the Swift and sell it?

Even the exterior has some resemblance with Maruti.

Looks like Ciaz lights plonked onto a Celerio X, with a "sporty" extra large grill.

Haha agree with every word. In the aesthetics department when it comes to htachbacks, Toyota drops the ball.

Where is the team which designed that beautiful Corolla Altis. All else aside I think current gen is among the most beautiful cars in our country.

Re: Toyota patents Agya hatchback’s design in India

Given how lethargic Toyota has been, I doubt this will be launched - neither with IC engine nor as EV. Toyota will be happy latching on to Maruti & rebadging their vehicles in all the sub 20 lakhs segments.

Strange design indeed!

Celerio+Estilo+Biker Moustache = Agya!?

Re: Toyota patents Agya hatchback’s design in India

This is probably how Toyota sells the Baleno rebadged as a Toyota in other countries, we will probably get a Daihatsu rabadged as a Toyota. Will it have a proper Toyota engine or a borrowed one?

Re: Toyota patents Agya hatchback’s design in India

I am getting a strange feeling that the upcoming spied Celerio? (Or may be some other Maruti Suzuki car) and the Agya is related based on the silhouette and those flap type door handles.

Like I said before (in the 2021 Celerio thread), this can be a Toyota and/or Maruti Suzuki's option for the Spresso but in a more conventional design, a replacement for the erstwhile Alto K10.

I have been quite wondering for sometime which car does this Toyota badged one resemble.

Thought I somehow connected this to the first gen Ford Figo, but it looks more closer to Celerio.

I think Toyota in India should stop looking at cars which are sold in their SEA markets to India (even though its way better than the rebadged Suzuki's), and look at the ones they sell in Europe or rest of the western world.

Re: Toyota patents Agya hatchback’s design in India

Not that Toyota doesn’t know how to make good looking cars (Euro version of Yaris + current gen Toyota Corolla sedan below). Their current international line-up is the best looking yet in their history with only their current Asian version of the Yaris (sold India in India) looking ugly. If Toyota is gonna pull an Etios again, they might as well leave the non-UV segments for good. A shame especially when they offer such good looking cars internationally now.

Re: Toyota patents Agya hatchback’s design in India

Casually looked at the thread name.

Oh, the European hatch. They should have been crying over how it's cost prohibitive for India I guess. Wonder where the Rav4 and Hilux rumours went. Wait, maybe like the Urban Cruiser, Glanza and now Belta they may have trademarked it to use it on a rebadged Swift or the next gen Celerio.

Opened up the thread. Not Aygo, it's Agya? Why are they patenting the Alto/Celerio equivalent of Daihatsu? Kinda makes the Suzuki rebranding pointless. Okay, guess they wanted the cheapest car in their hands to bring down the cost of their first EV in India. Hmm..okay... But they are partnering with a company that makes one of the world's cheapest mainstream cars!!! Why couldn't they make the EV on the next gen Celerio?

Oh, lord Toyota, you work in mysterious ways and even if fanbois say so, you don't feel the brand value has diluted that much. Even then, just bring out the secret weapon you are supposed to be hiding in your arsenal.
