Mahindra greenlights XUV900 SUV coupe
-Mahindra XUV900 to be brand's first four-door SUV coupe.
-Expected to share its underpinnings and engine with XUV700.
-Could come to Mahindra showrooms by 2024.
Quote:
While the XUV Aero concept that was showcased in 2016 resembled the outgoing XUV500, the upcoming XUV900 four-door SUV-coupe will share its mechanical bits with the XUV700; some common body panels like the front fenders, hood and front doors could also be shared. While the XUV Aero concept featured suicide doors, we expect the XUV900 to come with a conventional front-hinged door setup, and it's unlikely that the pillarless door design seen on the 2016 concept will make it to production. On the inside, bits like the dashboard and front seats are likely to be carried over, but in keeping with its positioning above the XUV700, it could get a more premium cabin and more features. The 2.0-litre mStallion petrol and 2.2-litre diesel mHawk engines from the XUV700 will be carried forward and will come with the same 6-speed manual and 6-speed auto options.

The W620 is still on the drawing board and, hence, it is unlikely that it will come to the showrooms before 2024. Styling will be key for the success of the XUV900 and it's likely that it will be one of the models to come out of the Mahindra Automotive Design Europe (M.A.D.E) studio. |

Honestly, I really liked the XUV AERO when I first saw it. Hope they nail the design, and make it a success. Also, yes. They have to come up with unique names. Keep the existing XUV5OO name and change the rest. Or better, come up with a less straining brand family names like Tesla, Merc , BMW. Those are short and sweet, whereas the 'double O's ' are a bit too long.

Somehow looks ugly irrespective of trying to have a positive on the design. Wonder if at all this is launched how it would sell and be received by the market.
The lines over the rear wheel arch look unnecessary.
Hopefully Pratap Bose will work his magic on this car by "Tatafying" it a bit :D
Very polarizing looks, imagine how much rear seat head room it will have. I don't know how Mahindra are gonna convince a 4 door Coupe to SUV crazy generation of buyers

We can very well replace those pics with that of BMW X5 and X6. As a concept it's not far fetched. But then brand Mahindra will have to work harder to convince.

Well, this render was made from the current gen XUV500 while the XUV900 is supposed to be based on the upcoming XUV700. This is a good move by Mahindra for market differentiation IMHO. With everyone coming out with SUVs in a very narrow price range, differentiation is the only way to stand out.
Mahindra greenlights XUV900 SUV coupe - Posts moved to a new thread.
IMHO, it is not the full size luxury convertibles or huge pick-up trucks (that will never see anything bigger than a grocery bag in its bed), but the coupe SUV/crossovers that are the epitome of conspicuous/wasteful (?) consumption.
That said, in a sea of blobby crossovers, a bit of variety won't harm.;). Well, who are we to tell the guys who are tasting the success of the Thar!!!
If they can go the lengths for the flush fitting door handles in the XUV700, they could very well have pillarless door frames in the XUV900 coupe. Pillarless door frames, a huge panoramic sunroof, no base variants and only a full loaded variant, the widest road tyres they can put, a hunkered down stance, maximum output possible from the engines and they could very well laugh all the way to the bank.
Seeing how much people love the X6 and GLE coupe, I am certain this will prove as a success story for Mahindra.
There’s been a significant shift towards SUVs from sedans.
I know people who have just SUVs in their garage and this will give them option to have something different from usual design.
They will really have to work on the pricing though, if it even slightly touches the 30 lakh mark, it’s game over.
But Love it or hate it, SUV coupes are here to say and they do look very cool.

Exactly!
IMHO - We can ignore the render / XUV Aero concept which is outdated already. Now that the concept has been green lighted - Mahindra should have a fresh iteration based on the upcoming XUV 900.
Mahindra SUVs sell in good numbers due to the sheer visual image and also gets the most visual modifications - social media throws thousands of examples of cars with lights everywhere, gigantic alloys, dazzled grill designs and what not! A full size SUV coupe will be a dream-come-true for this market - there is no competition as well, below the Germans.
Good move from Mahindra. :thumbs up
I personally hate the coupe SUV look. But, if M&M can make one that looks half decent, I'm sure all the guys who would otherwise buy a normal XUV and "Modify" it would rather go for something like this.
The problem is that Coupe SUVs are bought mostly by people who have too much money but don't wan't to be seen driving an E Class or GL SUV but want to stand out.
I don't know if we have a lot of this "stand out" people in our target market of upper middle class 45-50 Year olds who can afford to buy it.
The picture looks highly disproportionate and unbalanced. I am sure the Mahindra Designers would come up with something significantly better after a few iterations. From a strategy perspective this a bold and welcome step in my opinion. I wonder what sort of driving dynamics they are aiming for.

Well, when you describe it like that, count me in. A proper homegrown AWD touring coupe? Hell yes! We really need more comfortable tourers in our lives. Something that can easily do a 800km in a day without giving the driver fatigue or concerns about road conditions. Preferably diesel and more than 6 gears for a nice tank range.
In short, I'm asking for a GT/X6 but made by Mahindra so that regular people can actually afford it.

Sorry, but this looks ugly :unhappy
