Looks Pathetic. Hope they come out with a different look altogether.
Balance is what is missing on this design/concept which will be called the XUV 900.
Since the proportions are so huge and they are trying to make a comfortable 5 seater with good luggage capacity they should go even bolder and add suicide-style rear doors like on the Mazda Rx 8 (but being a monocoque maybe it would not be possible). However, this would make life a little easier for people seated at the back and bring some design freshness as well.

I think this coupe SUV based on the all new XUV500 could open up a whole new segment in the 20-30 lakh SUV space. I have confirmed news from my sources in Tata that even Tata is thinking on similar lines for the Harrier platform, so they will be closely watching the development of this coupe SUV from Mahindra.
If, and that is a big if, Mahindra manages to somehow pull off a relatively pleasing design with the help of Pratap Bose then they could achieve greater economies of scale for the new XUV platform since this coupe SUV will share almost everything with its regular SUV counterpart apart from the body shell. Also Mahindra can easily price it at a premium over the regular model and get away with it.
Everyone was up in arms when BMW launched the rather weird looking X6 way back in 2008 and called it the Sports Activity Coupe but as we all know, now that SAC is in its 3rd generation and the sales are strong. Heck even Mercedes,Audi and Porsche have subsequently launched the coupe versions of their SUVs.
So you may never know how this product will perform in our market. All eyes on 2024 now.:D
Well I am not sure that people will go oo over this. Hope that the name changes for this one. Mahindra is about utilitarian and value, this seems to be neither. Will be an interesting launch.
My thoughts within 1 second from reading this news yesterday -
- I'm going to apply for trademarks from XUV1ooo to XUV999o - for all those numbers that have a 0 in the end. I guess I can live off royalties afterwards.
- So Pratap Bose joins and within a week - there is an announcement of a "Sports-coupe" (i just love how funny these names are)? Were they waiting for him to sign the paper?
- Effectively - a long wheel base Nexon from Bose then? This is so cliché! :D
Something is just off about its proportions that I can't seem to pinpoint. Is it the excessively sloping roofline? The huge rear overhang? Or the massive amount of sheet metal above the rear wheel?
Also, visibility through the rear windshield will be pathetic if they continue with this silhouette.
Thank god, Pratap Bose decided to join Mahindra !
It seems Mahindra is having a revenge filled rebound moment after their divorce with Ford. XUV 300, 500, 700 and now the 900! Biting of more than they can chew I think. I said it on another thread and I'll say it again:
Time to market is everything. Learn from the Koreans. There is no point in announcing a vehicle and releasing it three years later. Heck, the Citroen C5 is almost forgotten 3 months after its launch.
Coupe SUVs haven't had a good luck in India till now, (Take the X4 or The GLC coupe for example) I don't see many takers especially when this one comes from Mahindra. Looking a bit ugly is another thing, there are still a lot of people who go for Coupe SUVs. It's the fact that this kind of body style eats into the practicality, drives away most customers. No third row, little headroom at the back just doesn't make much sense at least in India yet.
While the discussion continues, I wouldn't be surprised if the end result will look something like verito vibe with bit of chopping here and there.
This won't see the light of the day. The market for any such versions simply does not exist today and is unlikely to exist for another decade. All these tidbits regarding M&M are wild speculations & rumours
I am in two minds about this. No doubt the X6 looks gorgeous, but does that SUV Couple shape come at the expense of utility? It definitely. May be in the X6 it doesn't, after all what use that 5M length be of?
I have a XUV and what I like most about the car is the huge boot space with the third row folded down. How much of this utility will be taken away by the coupe version. Some for sure.
And while the X6 has chugged along and the GLE/GLC/X4s have joined it, just wanted to put it out there that there are few failed attempts like Honda Accord Crosstour and Acura ZDX as well.
So will wait ... :)

Frankly at first instance I hated the design since the original reveal long back. Moreover, with the kind of budget constraints I don't think Mahindra would be able to do justice to the segment even with a new design philosophy/ design head in place. Good for them if they'd stick to their suv DNA at least for the next five to ten years.
