Re: Pre-worshipped car of the week | Buying a Used Tata Safari Storme

Dear All,

I wish to buy an used car for my personal use and want to own that at least for the period of 5 Years. Now, I'm confused between Tata Hexa Varicor 400 & Tata Safari Storme Varicor 400. Please help me to select the best between both. A detail comparison will be very helpful for me.

Thanks in advance.

I have owned Safari Storme Vx 4x4 2015 refresh 150 Bhp/320NM. I lost it in April 2022 when I slept at wheels and rear ended a truck on Bangalore-Hyderabad highway. Storme saved my family but it was a total loss. I tried but could not find a worthy replacement of Storme (I could not find another used 2015+ Storme) until I test drove a used Tata Hexa XTA. I had owned Storme for 6.5 years and have owned Hexa for slightly more than 2 years now.

While Storme was very comfortable car (a 5 seater), Hexa is much more comfortable 6/7 seater. All I can say is that after loosing Storme in accident I missed it a lot (I felt like Storme was a part of me), but since the time I have got Hexa I have never missed Storme. There is only one problem associated with Hexa Automatic version. There is no replacement available for auto gear box of Hexa, and the auto gear box can only be repaired. So manual gearbox Hexa should not have this issue. Storme was my daily office drive, and so is Hexa. Both the cars are easy to drive in heavy traffic as compared to my other smaller cars (Vista and Punch AMT).

There are so many differences between the two cars, but you cannot go wrong with any of them. If you have any specific query, let me know.

Does the Tata Hexa has any long term issue specially related with suspensions and transmission? Because I wish to retain the vehicle for more than 5 years, so its important to be aware of such issues, if any. One of my relative has a Safari Storme 320 2016 model and till date it has no major issue. That's why it is hard for me to choose between both.

I haven't faced any issues with suspension in my Hexa. But I am not worried about suspension at all as it can easily be replaced. For automatic transmission in Hexa, one needs to get transmission oil replaced every 5-6 years to avoid any damage to the auto gearbox. I am yet to get it changed in my Hexa. The manual gearbox in Hexa is probably same as the one in Storme Varicor 400, and I havn't heard of any issues with manual gearbox in Storme/Hexa.
