I hope they add grab handles in the A and B Pillars both and Bonnet support Struts like many of us have fitted in our 3 door Thars from the aftermarket.
Touche! Even with Thar 2-door, I am sure around 70-80% sales come from 2WD versions. Thar 2-door was essentially a bachelor-boy's toy. Or newly-weds/child-less couples/multiple-car owners. Average single-car-household Mr. Familyman was watching with envy these kids having all the fun with their Thars while he quietly settled for ScorpioN for the practicality of 4-doors. Now, Mahindra is finally bringing out a Thar for Mr. Familyman. Yay! And, our Mr Familyman is not bothered about 4WD. He wants a cool-looking military-grade vehicle (even if it's only in looks) to drive to malls, airport runs, highway runs, hill-station runs and pretty much anywhere, with that high GC and tough boxy look.

And, grab-handles on A,B pillars can be seen in pics. This car screams for garb-handles which Mahindra overlooked in 2-door Thar.

Please see capture from further down in the video (~7:35) where he is looking into another 5 seater Thar - The 4x4 lever is very much in the same place as looks identical as in the 3 door.

Also, updating my previous post on the list of feature additions in the 5-door Thar versus the 3-door Thar below, as many new items have been pointed out in the thread:

They seem to have addressed almost all major gaps in the current 3 Door Thar top end model:

  • Sunroof
  • Metallic top
  • Push button start
  • 6 airbags
  • LED headlamps
  • Front parking sensors
  • Front center armrest
  • Rear AC vents
  • Modern steering wheel
  • Fully digital instrument cluster
  • Bigger touchscreen infotainment
  • Ample boot space
  • Rear defogger and wiper
  • Fuel lid that can be opened without going around the car with key in hand
  • Even bigger and more majestic 19 inch wheels
  • Higher engine tune (though this is just the reviewer'a view and not confirmed)
  • Rear center armrest
  • Front driver side grab handles
  • Watt's link rear suspension
  • ACC (not sure but looks like it is there)

I suspect they may have also added Frequency Selective Damping as in the ScorpioN as they seem to be throwing in a lot into the 5 door Thar. A 360 degree camera may also be in store, a highly useful feature when offroading.
.

Just some queries:
• Will there be any soft top version for 5-door?
• Any update on RWD drive in the 5-Door version?

• How many of these features will be there in the Thar 3-door version?

I wish to see all the above features (whichever is physically possible) and Rear disc brakes & Watt's link, in the 3-door version also.

I seriously doubt there would be a soft-top 5-door Thar. However, it certainly would be great if Mahindra does offer a power folding fabric roof, like on the Defender, or the Jeep Wrangler.

There is a fantastic after market option called BesTop for Jeep Wrangler. I wish there could be something as well engineered here too. But then in the 5 door Thar I understand that they seem to have removed the roll cage completely and this means the vehicle will not be able to support such a soft top concept.

.

As Mahindra is “getting inspired by” Jeep, I must suggest they bring the “My Sky” sunroof from Jeep Renegade. That Removable Top is Super Cool.

That will be best for all the hard-top Thars (3-door & 5-door) as it will give you almost all the view of the open-top and will be secure once it is closed.

Here is the article and demo:

Honestly I am absolutely fed up with the light touch scorpio N 4WD selector buttons. The slightest brush of the rotary knob will throw the vehicle into 4H. I have a 3 kilo cat that wanders the vehicle whilst I drive who keeps throwing the darned thing into 4H! It's quite impressively impossibly unaccommodating and unacceptable given that it's a part time 4WD!

Imagine if you had a:
1. A kid? Or a relative. Who wants to change the music volume and uses the knob!
2. A random chauffer? Who wants to do the above or just doing the knob for funk.
3. A curious technician at a service center? All reasons above apply.
4. Or a cat like mine. Or dog. Or your phone slips and falls on it.
5. Or yourself. Reaching across for a glass of water or something at the back while the cars running.

Can be catastrophic!
Dhanush (I don't know how to tag people), save us!

So, with the said list it is very clear that people really want a Scorpio-N but in form of Wrangler/Rubicon.

Even the current Thar 4x4 owners would happily exchange theirs for this new car for daily practicality and some occasional fun.

I only wish Mahindra fixes that absurdly designed unusable 3rd row of Scorpio-N soon, because Scorpio-N is more all rounded product for that single car garage.

re: Field trials of the 4-door Mahindra Thar begin!

This 4-door Thar will create sensation. Will have a queue from here to moon. It will find more homes than 2-door did. It's feature-loaded, too, now. Just one request to Mahindra. Please don't be tempted to launch a 6/7 seater variant and kill the Jeep image of Thar. There are a million MUVs for that, including your own stable. Keep this one a pure SUV. Don't even bother for 5th occupant. 4-place seating is enough. It will have sporty bucket seats (rear) and a reasonable volume of space for luggage.

An integrated rear door would have been better and more hasslefree. There is no soft-top version anyway to warrant a split rear door.

They must have chosen to go for split rear door to maximize part sharing with the 3 door version.

They are using the same 3 door glass for testing, its not attached to roof via latch, its surely is integrated with the door as seen in these picsField trials of the 4-door Mahindra Thar begin!-smartselect_20230724163817_instagram.jpg
