re: Rumour: Maruti Ertiga & XL6 to gain new features. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 11.29 lakh

What is with Maruti and power in KiloWatts! What next, speedometers in meters per second? (m/s, no pun intended), why go against the tide and confuse people? Usually manufacturers do this if the number is higher, like ISPs do with internet speed in megabits per second instead of megabytes.
I can very well see uninformed people getting put off by these numbers saying the other manufacturer's car makes more power at 110 instead of your 75. This is beyond me. Even some premium car dealerships have indulged in mentioning the mileage of their cars in miles instead of kilometres used in India, is there premium ness and tiers now in units of measurement too? Is miles more sophisticated and upmarket than kilometres?

Coming back to the K15 dualjet, well this started off as a lame 1.4 version of the excellent K12 and then they launched a 1.5 version (widely used now) which too was uncompetitive with the likes of Honda and Hyundai and produced substantially less power, great to see this engine now reaching the same ballpark in terms of power.
All this is on paper though and the dual jet in K12 seems to have amplified its weakness of even weaker mid range and offers a generally laid back performance compared to the older one despite higher numbers, lets see how this one fares.

When converted, the 75.8kW becomes ~101BHP so it's actually lower than older K15B on paper. The 115bhp figure was a mere speculation by some media houses which unfortunately didn't turn out to be true.

I stand corrected, I messed up with the conversion calculation as well.

Launched at 8.35 lakhs.

Facelift seems to make the car more butch if it may be said so. The alloy wheel design looks much better too.

Engine is lower on both power and torque but the additional injector of the DualJet may improve driveability. The 6 speed TC and paddle shifters is sure to attract customers.

re: Rumour: Maruti Ertiga & XL6 to gain new features. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 11.29 lakh

Disappointed with the price and specs.

1. Prices start at 8.35L! 65K higher than the earlier models. I remember the first gen Ertiga was launched at 5.99L onwards! Suzuki is cashing on the demand for Ertiga. Still 1.6L cheaper than Carens, but Carens is spec'ed in a higher segment. XL6 is already affected by Carens. A cheaper variant of Carens can spoil Ertiga's party.

2. Engine output: 2BHP less! Where is that 115BHP engine?

3. Automatic variant costlier by 1.5L! Yes - a new 6-speed, but 1.5L is too much of an ask, IMO. This seems to be a precursor to the introduction of AMT in Ertiga replacing this 6AT.

Just had a call with SA regarding XL6, he said and I quote
" XL6 to be offered with dual tone diamond cut 16" alloys, same infotainment system, Suzuki connect built-in with no additional charges.
There will be APLHA PLUS trim on offer, which will have Dual tone color and Ventilated seats."

re: Rumour: Maruti Ertiga & XL6 to gain new features. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 11.29 lakh

Got a call from Nexa SA for my XL6 Alpha 6AT booking. Tentative waiting is 10-12 weeks. This is for pre-booking done on 11th April. Seems XL6 would be available before Carens 1.5D AT for which booking was done on 14th March and had a waiting of 20-21 weeks. Need to test drive both and decide.

Alpha plus only comes with paddle shift and only 4 airbags as ertiga. Ventilated front seats and 16 inch wheels with new alloys which looks stunning as per dealer.

AFAIK, there is no Alpha Plus trim coming as per the variant details:

2022 Maruti Ertiga & XL6, now launched-img_1_1649683636813.jpg

Thus ventilated seats if any, will be coming on Alpha itself.

Shashi

I don't know what kind of training these people are giving then. SA said he called me as soon as he got out of XL6 training.

One SA called me this evening stating 6 airbags.

I will just give myself a break and wait for 21st now

As of now firm with my Zeta MT plan.

re: Rumour: Maruti Ertiga & XL6 to gain new features. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 11.29 lakh

Why on earth have they reduced the power and torque figures on the k15c dualjet is beyond me. When the competition gives better power and transmission they have decided to reduce it further.
This is not a good strategy
Further this engine will be plonked in all the existing k15b models. The europian s cross gets the same engine which is mated with an electric motor to give max 115 bhp. This combo should have also been made available.

Probably i am now little confused as i am looking at the torque figures. Looks like the torque is around 138 NM and with 105 BHP, how will be the performance in real life. I was looking at carens which has 138 BHP and 242 NM torque which everyone feels as just adequate and not thrilling performance. Am i missing something here or we cant just look at these numbers alone?

The comparable Karen's variant is the 1.5 NA petrol and not the 1.4 Turbo GDI. The petrol 1.5 makes around 144NM in the Karens which is also heavier than the Ertiga. So performance should be comparable.

Drive on,
Shibu
