Honda Cars India to recall nearly 78,000 Cars over Faulty Fuel Pump

Honda Cars India has initiated a preventive recall for nearly 78,000 cars in India in order to change a faulty fuel pump. The company has launched a service campaign to replace fuel pumps in 77,954 Honda cars, which were manufactured between 2019 and 2020.

Honda has said that the fuel pumps installed in these vehicles may contain defective impellers, which could, over time result in the engine stopping or not starting. The recall will be carried out in a phased manner starting from April 17, 2021.

The list of affected models include - the Amaze, last-gen City, Jazz, WR-V, Civic, BR-V, and the CR-V.

Honda's authorised dealer partners will contact the owners of the affected vehicles individually, and the replacement of the part will be made free of cost to the customer. Honda car owners can check whether their cars are covered under this campaign by submitting their (VIN) on the special microsite which has been created on the company's website.

Re: Honda Cars India to recall nearly 78,000 Cars over Faulty Fuel Pump

Looks like my car features in this list. (2019 Amaze VX mt petrol bought in 2020)
I have always had problems with my car accelerating from standstill, going uphill while cars of similar power figures could manage it with ease for the same gradient. Are these things which can get affected with a faulty fuel pump?
What can we expect from a faulty fuel pump replacement?

Also this isn't the first time honda is recalling so many units for the exact same reason. Previously my car had missed the cut, this time she makes it

I am afraid that the new gen city may also feature in the list soon. My 5th gen city which is 5 months old with around 4k on the odo jerks when i get on and off the gas. The effect is amplified with the AC on. Light throttle inputs in lower gears (more in 2nd gear) the car just refuses to give me linear acceleration.

Looks like my car is due for this change. Its a 2019 model Jazz. Although I never faced any such issues in last 2 years and 10,800kms of usage. Will call the dealer tomorrow and check.

My brother in law's Oct 2019 Amaze CVT is also a part of the recall. Filled up the form earlier today, lets see how this recall is implemented.

We shall not be calling the dealer proactively, given how the Covid situation is. Will wait for Honda to reach out, by which the Covid situation should hopefully be better.

What a coincidence. I was watching a Scotty Kilmer video yesterday on the best Asian car brands from 2020 and he had mentioned Honda's fuel pump troubles in it.

Checked my VIN on honda website and turns out my Amaze is due for the same. Called up service center, they said they have ordered for me and I can come in 5-6 days and it would take 3-4 hrs.

Re: Honda Cars India to recall nearly 78,000 Cars over Faulty Fuel Pump

Called the service center today. They noted my Jazz registration number and confirmed it is a part of the recall and that I could bring it tomorrow (Sunday) if I wanted. Told them I would bring it in on Monday. Thanks for the post Venkatesh! First time this is happening to me. New fuel pump is not a bad thing.
I wonder if anyone's car actually stopped or didn't start due to this. Would be be a shame. Honda cars are not the cheapest out there so we dont expect these problems.

It has become a trend by Honda. For what Honda is charging a premium on their cars when they cannot deliver the quality which is expected out of them. It looks like more than 60% of cars sold during 2019 & 2020 are part of the recall.

Sometimes I wonder if these recalls are a part of a marketing strategy to gain customer confidence.
I remember once when Toyota recalled the Prius to replace a floormat clip. Engineers that made the first sucessful hybrid got it all wrong with a small metal clip that held the floormat in place?

Re: Honda Cars India to recall nearly 78,000 Cars over Faulty Fuel Pump

So I had scheduled an appointment for Saturday i.e. 24th Apr,2021 for the fuel pump change however since KA has a weekend lockdown was asked to come today(23rd Apr). Reached early around 9:30AM and it took around 1.5hours. Since the crowd was almost nil, I was allowed in the service bay for sometime and saw the fuel pump being changed.

Being a part of recall wasn't charged anything for this but mandatory sanitization was charged at INR295 which is a new robbery these guys have started since covid onset. They just put a plastic wrapper around steering wheel and gear lever. Forget about sanitization of car, it was actually soiled inside when I got it back. Since I had to get back home and login didn't have patience to argue any further and left the place.

Update: took my car to showroom, it took 3 hours to change the same. Costed zero. Reason they said if you drive continuosly long 400-500 km, there were complaints of low pickup. Overall good job.

Re: Honda Cars India to recall nearly 78,000 Cars over Faulty Fuel Pump

Dear folks,

Got my Jazz VX CVT back from 2 years service. Other than the routine stuff the fuel pump was changed under this recall
I noticed an improvement in pickup specially in S mode. Is it just me or others too have noticed this change?

Regards
