re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

I have seen many posts lamenting the variant nomenclature. While I am not a fan of the nomenclature, I think Mahindra has made a distinction between Adrenox equipped variants and the non Adrenox equipped variant by adopting the present nomenclature.

So they have 3 variants which are equipped with the Adrenox(AX) system as they share the digital instrument cluster along with the feature packed touchscreen whereas the MX will do with plain vanilla instrumentation along with a basic infotainment system since it is not going to come with Android auto and Carplay(atleast not wireless).

Also, the MX will most probably come with only manual gearbox, so it makes sense to call the vanilla version- MX.

Again, I am not saying that the variant nomenclature is the best but it is not without logic.

The side airbags are present on the side of the seat to protect the occupant's torso while curtain airbags extend over the first and second row glass area[even the third row]

re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

Looking at the features, variants and comparative size with the XUV500, I feel the model does not justify the name of XUV700 which gives an impression that it is a segment above XUV500, but it is an upgraded XUV500.

Should have stuck with the name of XUV500.

Side airbags protect you from a side impact. There are two types: Torso & Curtain airbags.

Torso airbags are found in the side of seats whereas curtain airbags deploy from the car ceiling. Curtain airbags cover front and rear seats and even 3rd row in some larger vehicles.

So curtain airbags are part of side airbags. These are some images:

That design IMHO looks dated and out of place. It's like the XUV500 went through a bad plastic surgery and this is the result. Yes, its got all the features and gizmos that the masses would like but it looks nowhere near as good as its competitors, especially the macho Safari. Kudos to Tata on the Harrier/Safari twins.

Maybe because it's basically the XUV500 (or the platform itself) that has been thoroughly refreshed inside and out to become this new XUV700.

I am still to make up my mind on whether i like the design or not.
Find some elements of the Hector in the side profile.

XUV 700 Looks are evolutionary as originally it was to be XUV 500 only. To me the most important thing in a car is its handling so I would be waiting for its review.

Coming to the car, it has everything one would ever need. The engine, the AT, the audio, the tech. Everything is sorted. Hopefully one of the most important part of a car, which is the suspension, is sorted as well. I’m personally not a fan of the XUV500 suspension. What I don’t get is what does M&M mean when they said during the launch that the 12 speaker Sony system, flush handles etc. are optional? Will they be included in to different variants? It’s not like in India we ever had the choice to customise packages from the factory. Or are they accessories that the dealer will fit? Tbh, the ADAS should be optional because not everyone travels on expressways on a daily basis. Like how it’s optional in a Tesla. Not everyone would use it. I’d be paying for something that I would never use.

Looking forward to the price announcement and the Team-BHP review. The price will make or break the new generation XUV500. Oops, my bad, the new XUV700.

Cheers!

re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

The launch would have been much more glamorous had they chosen to show that red color variant, the one that was recently seen somewhere. May be it is just for me, but this blue color looks terribly odd for this vehicle. And the launch itself looked quite hurriedly made. Wishing M&M all the best to get all these gizmos work together and longer.

(Sorry about the rant: but just from someone who had a hard time in getting them fix the rear camera blue screen problem )

Its worse than that. This is a straight lift from a 1990s cycle commercial.

OT: This was my introduction to road bikes, and a pretty good one at that.

XUV 7OO is ready to dethrone TATA twins.
Looks is growing on me, the engines seem spot on at least on paper, features alone will take a month for owner to experience. It’s just tight QC and perfect pricing with no frequent price hikes which can stitch path of success.

So, the Skyroof will be available only from AX5 and above. It won't be part of optional features. This is more like Hyundai Strategy rather TATA. People who would like to opt out of Skyroof in higher variants won't have an option. This is what I have understood from the given features list.

re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

Loaded with features and gets segment's most powerful motors. In my opinion, the Achilles heel of the XUV700 will be its uncanny resemblance to the outgoing XUV500. It still looks very much like a van than proper Mahindra SUVs.

It will sell, and Tata Safari will face the heat, just like always
Hope it rides well unlike the outgoing bouncy XUV500.

185 PS and 420 Nm ought to be fun to drive. 5 years ago, 156 PS 400Nm Storme was thought to be segment best (2.2 mills), Now the industry is marching towards greater power figures. Heck the base diesel variant is as powerful as the Varicor 400 2.2 mill of Tata.
