re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

Spotted the car a couple of days back in Chennai, camouflaged though.

re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

I was cursing the design based on previously leaked warped photographs and was wondering what would I have to tell my dad for asking him to sell his Etios and wait for the XUV7OO, today he sends me the Twitter link of the red XUV and grins over the video call, doesn’t forget to mention the 190BHP (expected power output) and then humiliates me for my Endeavour 2.0 putting out 168 BHP! Now that’s what they call “Baap baap hota hai!” (A father always has upper edge over his kids!)

I still expected classier looks but I guess Mahindra wouldn't do that in this century. Everything is mostly fine except the front grille. It looks too blingy and Mahindra have gone for a chrome fest, instead they should have used smoked chrome to tone it down.

But again, blingy and overdone sells in India, just ask Hyundai dealers who are laughing all the way to the bank with the success of Creta.

re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

I still am skeptical about the looks, for once I would like to think Mahindra officially mangled the spy shots earlier with everyone talking smack so that the actual design would be easier to digest. The proportions are acceptable now, but the overall looks with that huge D-Pillar and protruding spoiler, it is far from clean and it looks, Dare I say "very Chinese", maybe the color is too tacky or something but it still doesn't do it for me in the looks department, hopefully for the owners, they won't get to see the exterior from the inside of the vehicle. Now this could definitely be the radical steps Mahindra takes, Even the original XUV 5OO was radical in terms of design and some of it did take a few more looks to be normalized by our eyeballs.

Purposefully leaked by mahindra? Anyways still overstyled just like xuv5oo or kuv1oo. Could tone down the exteriors and sell more but nevertheless mahindra will sell these in bucket loads.

Is it just me or does the color finish look different at the front and the back (based on the video). It looks like front has a Matt finish while the rear has a glossy finish..

Is it just me who thought that the rear end looks like the Skoda Kodiaq?
Anyway look at how quickly opinions changed after these spyshots were uploaded.

The front end quickly brought back the memories of biology classes and the front facsia reminded me of the 'fallopian tube' Now thats some interesting choice of inspiration

The choice of color saved the day actually. Else everything about the car looks either uninspiring or quirky. And whats with that non existent rear bumper. This is not even a 4m car !

May be the Thar hangover
With a fair share of off road hardware anticipated, it must have been done to reduce the rear overhang as the car is already longer than XUV500. By the way, the rear skid plate is found to have come off in the above video. Hope the naysayers wouldn't load their gun for this since it's a test car and it may have been put to some abuse.

re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

Sheesh!!! Mahindra sure does brew a strong desi kool aid.

Endearing to see so many wish that Mahindra should have done this or that. Living in a state of denial that this is a ground up design rather than a reworked Alturas which it is. The two years of development were probably spent in legal wrangling to get it from Ssangyong.

The Cheetah claw design language has made it look like it indeed was mauled by a clawed animal. And since the Alturas was a Ssangyong Rexton which was a Mercedes ML, Mahindra probably found it fit to take inspiration (read:copy) from its shared heritage with MB for the large lcd dash and translated (read: paste) it for Indian requirements.

Can predict this: Will be lethargic and boat like in handling.

Cheers

100 times better looking than that God-awful initial undisguised spy photo. Thank heavens.
This was a perfect moment to capture it in high resolution - clear skies, smashing color, vehicle at a standstill. Wonder why most spy shots look like they've been taken with a potato

Still looks like a Chinese SUV to me.
That grille looks like it wants to compete with the BMW X7!

And the shade of the red colour doesn't suit the car at all. It's very, very loud. It should've got a bit deeper shade of red. This is a big car, a light shade of red doesn't look anywhere near classy. On the other hand, something like maroon would've looked divine.

re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

Looks much better than the distorted leaked spy shot of golden XUV 7OO.

I feel, the rear tail lamp has been wasted, if the rear brake light appears as it is shown in the pics, then that's a total turn off. They may look good in the night but may not look pleasant in the day light as they occupy huge area and don't look too classy.

I don't know if its me, but this resembles Alturas a lot. Specially, the portion until A Pillar and the near the D pillar. The front bonnet from pics, gives a more van like appearance because of it curvy nature when viewed from the side.

Power, Tech and interior wise it will definitely blow the competition away and this will hurt TML and MG both. I feel it will hurt more off to TML because they don't have the cool features or as they say the "aha" / "wow" moment when someone steps inside the cabin.

It has to be seen how M&M has tuned the suspension of the vehicle: More for ride and handling or towards comfort. They may pull a trick by offering two custom suspension setting in the top end 4x4 variant.

From technology point of view, I feel this will definitely set a benchmark for all others to follow in 18-30 L range.

Rest we will have to see how market laps up. From the size, this vehicle may not please everyone as smaller families would like to have a nimble 5 seater Tech laden SUV.

May be XUV 5OO will be launched as 5 seater.

Also, with this MnM will be foraying in to the luxury category (which they may separate later), just like Hyundai genesis, with a new logo.

This is where TML has missed the boat, they had JLR luxury/tech experience and ample of time to create a new luxury brand to launch Harrier, Altroz, Safari and luxury EV under it.

The home grown auto makers are really spoiling the customer with lot of choice.

Is the XUV700 getting four wheel drive, OR would it continue with Mahindra's 4-door family theme of 'two wheel drive variants only'?

re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

Going by the Pictures and the Video, the exterior has not been changed much, they just merged the front somehow with the Headlight instead of the whisker design they had (I did not like it a bit). Plus the crease for the Window mirrors between A,B and C pillars still is similar to XUV 500.

Though this is not that Subtle but, If I were to buy it, I can live with this design. I personally do not like too many cut here and there or like busy front or back. Red looks good and now it is time to wait and see, how much better does the Interior looks.
