So points that I noted:

1. No Hydraulic Struts? Seriously? I don't get this trend about such cost cutting. Cars in general have gotten bigger, bulkier and very basic things like these do add to the Quality of life changes in general. Why would a company do this, I don't understand. It's just simply stupid and it's not a test mule thing in my opinion. Those who have a Harrier or Safari know about what I'm referring to here with those hood covers weighing up a ton nowadays.

2. So the wipers seem to be the aero wipers. One can expect them to be good in general. Not a big deal though about the wipers but they're always appreciated than the regular ones.

3. What actually worries me is the ground clearance. In the last picture, one can compare the ground Clearance of the XUV700 to the parked Tata Indica and I was shocked that Indica has a higher ground clearance than XUV700. The current generation boasts a good number as well. But on comparing the upcoming generation with Indica, and looking at the space in the wheel well, I'm a little worried. Why I preferred my XUV500 over any other car was that I was sure that I could take it to most of my offroads without worrying about the GC. Seems like Mahindra is more focused on making another Innova by the looks of it, rather than the Brute looking XUV that we all love.

4. My take on FE is very simple. Given that they're using a brand new aluminium casing as well as the piston heads, the overall engine weight would get reduced and coupled with better heat transfer done by the aluminium, I would expect a decent FE. 5 kmpl is way too pessimistic in my opinion, on papers. We could see something in the range of 8-12 kmpl, given that Fortuner with a 2.7l engine and much heavier body structure puts out 10.4 kmpl. Adding a caveat here, that my estimate is purely on ARAI tests, in real life conditions, a lot of us would push that 200bhp to the limit, so 5 kmpl might not be far fetched in that scenario.

5. Coming to the Petrol engine itself, I would expect it to be overflowing with Torque and not like the Fortuner Petrol which is just sufficient in my opinion. In cars like these, however, Petrol doesn't make much sense to me given that it's reaching 100Rs per litre and with the E20 norms also kicking in the future, and no flex engines visible for miles. I have driven all my SUVs with an oil burner and diesel is my go to fuel in any SUV.

I second this.

Even 1 person could push the car to the side of the road in this case, and there's really no need to have the hood open (this isn't a ghat road in 1987).

Also, I'd imagine these test mules have car covers in them.

Either something really odd here, or a rather incompetent operator.

re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

I am not convinced that we are going to see 200 hp or (197hp) on the petrol XUV700. This is similar to when the Thar was launching with the 2.0L petrol, everyone was jumping up and down anticipating 190hp. Like I said then about the Thar getting 150hp, (dampening everyone's tall expectations) don't expect anything more than 180hp. I am 100% sure, they are not going to eck out every ounce of power from that engine. Keeping in mind the balance between fuel economy and power, it will be about 180hp, with a detuned version of about 160hp for the scorpio (at best). When they showcased the mstallion couple of years back, the max output was 190hp. While I agree more changes may have come since then, there is no way they are going to max it out.

The power figures make for great headline numbers. Hope Mahindra have been able to give the 700 a chasis that those engines deserve.

Mahindra XUV700 to get class leading 200hp 2.0 turbo petrol engine
I wonder why everyone is so hyped about the BHP part of the statistics and noone talks about the torque output! We are talking about a near 2 tonne truck, expected to haul 7 adults.

I'd be excited to see 300 Nm in the petrol engine and 450+ Nm in the diesel one!

Remember Tata naming their engine the Varicor 400 after the torque output? Also the DDiS 200 & 320 by Maruti! Just loved that nomenclature!

Going by headlight assembly this particular car seems to be from first lot of test mules. So one can wait till Mahindra launches the final version of the product and start criticizing!

Maybe inspired by this https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/stree...bonnet-up.html (No Parking. No Problem. Just put your bonnet up!)

Those are pretty impressive nos. I hope M&M keep it as a top notch offering. If it comes with 4WD, all the safety features and of course rating 5 on GNCAP, this could be a killer product.

With that kind of torque it will be competing with the segment above SUVs and will have to be priced accordingly as well! If given 450Nm+ that will be even higher than the Alturas G4, Endeavour and MU-X.

Also mHawk engines are known to have excellent low down torque, Scorpio, Thar and even the current XUV500 are testimony to that. You don’t need so much torque otherwise in case of the FWD XUV700 it will be just wheel-spinning under hard acceleration, the current XUV500 is a strong performer till date with it’s 360Nm of torque.

The XUV7OO could offer 7 seats + premium features at a higher price point. The 5OO and 7OO could be like the Harrier/Safari duo from TATA.

Just my 2 paise.
To be a proper 7 seater, it has to be in the league of Innova Crysta, Fortuner, Carnival or Endeavor in terms of space. Assuming for a min that Mahindra does manage it so, then its pricing will not be in league of Hector Plus/Safari (most probably 1.5-3 lacs premium for similarly speced versions). As soon as it hits price limit of Innova, most people will choose Innova blindly over a Mahindra not only for reliability but also for resale value. They can claim biggest engine but Safari/Hector Plus has Fiat's reliable diesel unit, which is quite competent. Unless they choose to undercut Safari/Hector Plus from starting though bleeding themselves probably, it will be difficult for them to sell in good numbers. Any car costing more than Rs 25 Lacs falls in competition with Fortuner, our big bad boy (many people will happily pay extra to get Fortuner over even Compass's top model).

Very True. I completely agree with this (Subjective). I am also waiting for the price details.

Fortuner is pushing 40.

If someone has a budget of 25, how can s/he stretch all the way till 40?

Maybe some can, but certainly not every 25 lakh rupee customer.

The ground clearance does not look very inspiring, at least from the profile pics. Also, the tyre looks smaller. Is it bcoz it’s a test mule. However, the sunroof looks majestic.
