I believe it's navy blue colour (my pick out of colours launched yet), which looks like black depending on light reflection and camera settings/post video editing.

Though I noticed somewhere that M&M has announced a Midnight Black colour for XUV700. Again not sure if they are calling this Navy Blue colour as Midnight Black.

4 more hours to go for first drive reviews. Hope we get some more details!

If I was their earlier customer, I would never look at MnM again because I dont know when my cars value in market would tank.

- XUV 3OO fits the bill of small 5 seater with adequate size but suddenly MnM has made it look ostensibly expensive. In fact, all current offerings on MnM looks expensive forget competitors.

A flag ship product, in the current line up, has to be treated as a flagship product, not only from features point of view but also from price point of view. They could have easily started the petrol model with AX3 and slotted it at the MX diesel model at starting price of 12.5 L without giving heartache to existing customers or the existing line up. This was again a ground breaking price.

Also now, people will not accept anything from MnM beyond 25L because in their minds it is set now MnM can give all the features and best engines at a very low price. And if they charge more, the same people will start questioning and will pay 5-7 L extra and move to established brands like Skoda, VAG, Toyota, Jeep etc.

I feel MnM has degraded itself (from a price point of view) and lost an opportunity to move up the luxury ladder by offering so much first in class features in an excellent package at a very low price.
"Do your thing and don't listen to detractors, they will bash you for not able to walk on water, but ignore the fact that you can fly "

This proverb has been again proven true. Though I am quite sure you aren't a detractor for MnM.

However, how to gauge the customer's expectations? We crib about unsafe Korean siblings costing a bomb. We crib about "Made (Cheapened )for India VW twins still costing a bomb. We crib about a niggle infested and feature barebones Harrier/Safari twins costing a fortune to buy (25L&27L). We crib about the Chinese offerings for their design and their origins.

Now here is an Indian company offering space, road presence, segment leading - specs, features and interiors but at a shockingly low price ! Still we are supposed to blame them for not costing a bomb?

Current M&M customers would be dissatisfied as their vehicle value will tank ? Sir, no one forced them to buy M&M vehicle. M&M has to run a business and for that, they need to break the market sometimes. Today it's the XUV700, tommorow it could be Xuv300. Also point to note is it's not like only M&M cars value will tank. Most others have similar fate in store for them.

Case in point- My dad wanted a brand new car last year under rs. 15L budget. I forced him to go pre owned and save 5+L(purchased Ecosport) as I was aiming for a higher segment car in 2022-23 and XUV was one of the vehicles on my radar. Am I unhappy that the Ecosport value will tank ? To be honest no, because we wish to use it atleast for its 8-10 year lifespan (2026-28). I am sure there will be many such others as me and Mahindra can't and should not alter their strategic plans for a few other customers who have different ideologies.

This group can choose the MX diesel engine at just Rs 50K premium. 155 horses at Rs 12.5 lacs! It can't get better than this.

Regarding the extra 20 lakhs in FD, that would only happen if one is cross shopping between those two segments.
This will happen as a lot of ppl looking at Skoda/Volkswagen sedans and SUVs will see value here. Also those ppl considering petrol Innova/Fortuners in NCR.

Here we are talking about a person who was eyeing a Ecosport or Creta and now he's going for Xuv700 , in that case we can't consider it 20 lakhs saved, he will consider it as 2 lakhs spent extra for better safety and size.
1) Nobody is stopping him from going for Ecosport/Creta. He has just got another mouthwatering option
2) He can choose the diesel variant
3) The difference in fuel consumption between a petrol Creta and a petrol XUV700 will just be around 20%. Not these monumental numbers as assumed.
Creta: 9-10 kmpl
XUV: 7.5-8 kmpl

Cheers!

Re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

We all know about the Chip shortage, it seems, Mahindra has launched lower variants first due to this reason more than anything else. So, for someone looking to buy one in hurry, basic variants may be delivered earlier.

Makes sense.

Two lines on the cribbing part,

This car might be one of the last glorious ICE platforms before we migrate to EVs. So potential buyers stop worrying about 1-2 kmpl difference or allegedly doubtful build quality (trust M&M's word & track record on safety) buy one and enjoy those 200 horses.

P.S: I know ICEs will not vanish just like that in 5-10 years. But hey, we are already debating about the economics of operating petrol cars and what not!

P.P.S: Trust me, the mapping (read sheer power delivery) that M&M vehicles have and driving experience for fun, you won't find it similar spec'd competitors. Reason - Their philosophy is to give maximum features and mileage and M&M has it's own.

Mod Note: Our Mahindra XUV700 Review has been taken live at this link. Please continue the discussion over on the new thread. Thanks!
