Pitching XUV 700’s price below the Safari (one of its key 7-seater competitors) will never happen.

The Safari AT starts around 17.xx and goes up to 21.xx.
Mahindra will want to, at the very least, price it just above the Safari - being mindful of the new-tech positioning it will try to create.

re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

Mahindra may be able to compete head on with Safari even with all the tech since they have one distinct advantage over Safari - they have a home grown engine versus the Safari's Jeep outsourced unit. Not to mention the presence of Petrol ones as well (though modern day direct injection turbo petrols cost nearly as much as the diesles) which may indicate a lower starting price.

A sign of premium - ness perhaps, I noticed it first in Skoda Kodiak. But it is a very impractical choice. Despite the care our Safari has plenty of stains, lots of Sonax over the weekend is needed, perhaps ban anyone from wearing clothes without full sleeves or blue jeans or ... Just leave all the plastic as is.

Posting some more spy shots which have been doing rounds on WhatsApp!

I was wondering if the XUV 7OO is the car with the most pre launch spy shots ever on TeamBHP!?

Here is a spyshot which captures the stance of the SUV very well (no concern about the lack of GC or space in the wheel well)

This angle gives lot of clues about the detailing of the rear bumper. Profile of the tail lamps also can be seen clearly.

If people from Mahindra are reading this, please provide a variant with -
  • 6 airbags
  • ESC, TC, Hill hold and other tried and tested technology
  • 3 point seatbelts for all passengers
  • Fuss free mechanicals
without all the new gizmos like ADAS, radar control and what not. Lesser the electronics, lesser the chances of visiting the service center time and again.

The XUV7OO is a car that I am seriously considering as my next upgrade but most spyshots gave me MPV vibes and I was worried about the GC. But it looks quite good here, in my view.

New to the forum, so I can't vote in the poll yet, but I expect the XUV7OO to be positioned above the Safari, with all the speculated features. I am hoping it will be priced in the 17-23 lac range. Anything beyond that would really stretch my budget, especially with the taxes in Bengaluru.

More spy pictures of Mahindra XUV700 in production form. This particular test mule does come with Apollo Apterra HP 235/60 R 18 " tyres.

re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

Some HOT SCOOPS came my way today on XUV700

It seems that Mahindra XUV700 may get Alexa voice integration. A friend of mine works in the Alexa team and hinted to me that the XUV700 team had reached out specifically for something on Alexa.

He's not confirming anything since it is not his team that handles this. He also immediately realized that he may end up sharing some confidential info. So no did not get further details on this.

I'll discuss with him again to dig deeper.

Yes, seems like Autocar has taken a wild guess and the estimation is off. No way they are going to price it below when they have clearly said "it'll be positioned above XUV500". That means only one thing.

I feel they'll carpet bomb the 15-26L price range, taking a leaf from Seltos' book. And here's my reasoning for that.

1. There are 2 engine options, AWD/FWD and a variety of segment first features (ADAS, pop-out doors, possible Alexa integration etc.). I'm taking cues from "scoop"master ram87pune's post quoted below:

4. The report in Autocar India about the 200 bhp petrol engine is likely to be true as Mahindra is likely to launch this tune on the XUV petrol. But since this is the highest possible tune on the mStallion engine, Mahindra may play it safe and launch the XUV with a 180 bhp tune. This will also be beneficial for the fuel economy. It is also likely that top variants will get the 200 bhp tune while the lower variants will get the 180 bhp tune. There could also be different tunes available for automatic and manual transmission options.
2. I think the top variant will touch 26L. I know there have been many debates around this so let me give my rationale.
a. The biggest argument on this front is that Innova is priced at 25L. However, I think XUV700 is targeting a different customer base. I talked to many prospective buyers and they all said they wouldn't buy Innova. There is a lifestyle statement in buying Innova vs. XUV and at these price points it matters a lot to customers. As they say, heart over head.
b. They will definitely undercut top variant of Jeep by at least 1-2 lakhs. This puts their top end pricing at the 26L mark
c. Since they can potentially carpet bomb this price range, with all possible variants, they can easily steal customers from Korean twins, the Tatas and some Japanese boys.

Needless to say, all are rumours and my guess is no better than yours. Can't wait for the debut and the official price list! Fingers crossed.

It's looks to be 235/60 R18. 295 would be too big for XUV and it's definitely not 80

I really wonder why this aversion to "gizmos".

Fact of the matter is, technology has been miniaturized and barring this temporary chip shortage related price surge, becomes more and more affordable.

What was high tech super sci fi futuristic tech even 3 decades ago is now found in almost all cars (things like GPS Sat Nav, 360* cams etc).

And this will only continue, with the non gizmo cars being dinosaurs or collectors items by 2035 at the latest.

So why this general resistance to what I see as positive change.

Not being confrontational here, and would genuinely like to hear your / other counter point of views so please dont mistake me.

I would personally love to have more gizmos as it means more bang for my buck, but only if it is done well. Otherwise its just annoying. I had an RE Electra that never broke down or left me stranded in close to 8 years of ownership, because it was a simple motorcycle. I also owned a Mahindra Mojo, which would trigger the engine malfunction light everytime it had a wash because the lambda sensor was too sensitive (faulty?) to water. Had to take it to the service centre every time to reset it. I know its not exactly the same, but less sensors/gizmos/electricals, less parts that could fail.

I think the major concern here is Mahindra's ability to pull something off like this. If I am not wrong, even some of the earlier XUV5OOs had electrical issues.

Not OP but I feel the general aversion towards "gizmos" and a resistance to their introduction in cars, is the concerns over reliability and hassles over niggles. Quickly adding that I'm not party to this general sentiment, however niggles are a concern for me as well (isn't it for everyone though).

If even some of these tech fail, we'll have to visit the service center to get them fixed. An IT firm specializing in software development would probably spend 1000s of manhours in development, maintenance and improvements to software. However, it is not exactly a car manufacturers core competency which is probably why there is this resistance.

I completely agree with this movement towards usable features using electronics and software. However, I feel that these should be done by firms whose core competency is software and hardware development. And car manufactures should just integrate with the existing technology provided by these firms.
