Quote:
Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has signed an MoU with Mahindra MSTC Recycling Pvt Ltd (MMRPL) towards offering its customers a first-of-its-kind end-to-end solution for scrapping of vehicles. MMRPL is engaged in the business of acquiring used/end-of-life vehicles to dismantle and scrap it under the brand name of CERO.

Commenting on the partnership, Veejay Ram Nakra, CEO Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra, said, “Our agreement with MMRPL is a step towards delivering customer delight through a convenient, one-stop solution for customers who wish to scrap their old vehicle. While the scrappage policy will take effect in some time, we are ready to help the customers who intend to discard their vehicles.”

Mahindra dealerships along with CERO will offer:

- Vehicle evaluation
- Arrange quote for exchange/scrappage value of the vehicle
- Provide end-to-end services including vehicle pickup, transportation and environment friendly dismantling at CERO scrapyards
- After this, the Certificate of Deposit/Destruction (COD) will be issued by CERO, which will enable customer to claim eligible benefits under upcoming Scrappage Policy.
- The company says, the agreement with MMRPL will enable customers get a hassle-free and transparent deal under one roof. Any customer intending to purchase a new Mahindra vehicle by scrapping/exchanging the old vehicle which is more than 15 years can do so at any Mahindra dealership. These services would provide utmost convenience to the customer without the need to look for a vehicle scrapping agency/ dealer. This is especially relevant given the new vehicle scrappage policy announced by the Minister for Road, Transport and Highways in the Lok Sabha on March 18, 2021, aimed at creating an eco-system to eliminate old and polluting vehicles.

Not a bad concept. But the real question is of the valuation. Company dealers are notorious for underballing during exchange of old cars. If these people are going to offer 25-35k for an old Scorpio, they might as well not bother.

Re: Mahindra introduces end-to-end solution for vehicle scrappage

Was more than expected after their lobbying under the SIAM umbrella with the government to introduce "voluntary" scrapping and compelling owners (driving them to the wall) of older automobiles to scrap, with levying of unreasonable fitness and re-registration fees. These are coupled with huge deterring fines of Rs 300/- and Rs 500/- per month for two and four wheelers respectively, for delays in undergoing such tests. And they now emerge with such a policy.

Lobbying was done under the SIAM umbrella helped by their dealers and component makers associations. End-to-end policy is for their car hungry scrapyards and is oxygen for these entities.

Mahindra can also have a catchphrase "showroom se scrapyard tak" or S2S to make it more attractive. Reliance has its O2C (oil to chemicals) catchphrase, while LIC has "zindagi ke sath bhi, zindagi ke baad bhi."

The sole advantage of such organised scrapping is that it will hopefully be less polluting for the environment and will possibly checkmate disorganised scrapping.

Re: Mahindra introduces end-to-end solution for vehicle scrappage

It would be good to know if someone can directly go to CERO to get their old vehicle scrapped and if it can be any vehicle. There has been so much discussion on how to safely scrap vehicles but the level of trust and ease of doing so is not great in most options. Maybe this is where CERO or similar setup from a large company could help get scraps off the parking safely.

Not everyone wants a Mahindra or for that matter another vehicle in return of their old one.

Sorry - a bit of googling answered the question. So CERO makes sense esp if you are looking to scrap your old vehicle.
Their faq answers a host of detailed questions. Only point not clear is if it works countrywide.
