Not because its a bad car or something. Its because a well maintained sample would cost you just a little less than a new one.

I would like to differ here. My general rule of thumb for getting a used car is that it should be around 2 years old and less than 25K kms run. Now when my dad purchased the above pictured S TDCI, it was 23 months old and run just a paltry 12.5K Kms. The car costed us around 9.65L which is pretty good value IMO (especially considering the Pristine condition). The same model would have costed me around 13.5L if I had bought it in 2018 and around 14L if I bought it in 2021.

Have I been lucky here, or are there any more examples?

No point comparing with how much it costs to buy new today. We see with what it costs to buy new at the time when we are buying second hand. Now, a diesel car that costs 13.5L has a life of 10years, after which it is scrap as per NCR rules. Means it is 1.35L per year as it is. So 2.7L worth of life is already lost after two years, and that’s without considering depreciation, wear and tear and market sentiment.

The prices that well maintained cars like this one go for, it just doesn’t appeal as much. Cars from a segment up loose their value much faster and are lot more attractive to buy pre owned. The one and half year old Compass I bought a few months back, for example, is like 40% off on the new price at that time.

Re: Pre-worshipped car of the week : Buying a Used Ford EcoSport

What a timing, I was in the process of writing this very thread, as I was looking for a pre-worshiped Ecosport Diesel to replace my very 2012 Swift VDi which has done nearly 200k Km. The primary reason for the change is safety. My swift is mostly used by my father, who - for god knows why- is getting faster with age. Even though the Swift still works like a charm, it is not a safe car or a safe enough car. So I started my search for a 2018 & above Titanium+ model. There are a good number of cars available in Kerala with my required spec, but most of them are above 10L or have done nearly 80-90k Km. Still, I believe I can find the right one soon enough.
The car will be used by my parents only, so the back seat space is not a concern, also the 1.5l diesel is a frugal yet powerful engine complementing the ford excellent chassis, So I hope we won’t be missing the Swift+1.3 MJD combo.

Re: Pre-worshipped car of the week : Buying a Used Ford EcoSport

Voted yes.

It's such a nice car to own and drive.

But cannot be a primary ride for someone who does a lot of distance on a daily basis on bad roads. The stiff ride quality and cramped space are what would worry me about the Ecosport (sorry owners, a safari/storme/Ciaz owner here)

The 1.5 diesel engine has great drivability, with extremely linear power delivery, which is something I don't like, specially when compared to engines like the nexon's 1.5 and VAG's 1.5/1.6 diesels.

The 1.5 tdci is very fuel efficient and reliable too. And the car, though old, still looks lovely. One of my friends is confused with Nexon XZ+ diesel and EcoSport Titanium S now.

I suggested him the Tata just because it was more punchy to drive, but the EcoSport was more precise. I just couldn't understand the logic behind Ford pricing the S variant 14 lakhs on road, when the next lower variant titanium is well priced at 11.6 lakhs on road, but lacks essentials like the rear armrest and isofix mounts, but gets a sunroof.

Moreover the interior has started to look dated and the plastic quality feels very ordinary.

Three things to note actually,

1) Dad wanted a car that would cost under 10L. The ecosport would have costed around 13.75L at that time, considering the car also had 2+2 years of Extended Warranty and RSA. Considering the 13.75L price of car in 2018, we got a good 4.10L off on the car, which is about 31% lesser. I feel this was a great deal because-

a) Car was in pristine condition (Not even a single scratch)
b) Top model
c) Just done 12.5K Kms.

2) Compass is a bit larger than the Ecosport, and we preferred something under 4 metre (due to dad's frequent City rides). We are on the lookout for a bigger second car, but need something bigger like a Harrier/Hector. Fewer dealerships meant something to avoid. Dad also wanted something easy to maintain, having burnt hands with a very expensive previous car.

3) I live in Pune, so Delhi-NCR rules don't apply!

Re: Pre-worshipped car of the week : Buying a Used Ford EcoSport

Voted no! Buying a used car in India is akin to rolling the dice, irrespective of who you are buying it from. How much will one save over a new one? A few lakhs at the most. The risk and future maintenance costs associated with a used car offset the savings when buying a sub 20L used car. And how much better is the Ecosport over say a Nexon in terms of ride, suspension etc? Most wont even notice the difference. If one can’t afford a new Ecosport then get a new Nexon.

The only time I would buy used is when buying a premium luxury vehicle where the magnitude of savings are 20/30L over a new one. The added hassles of insurance transfer, registration transfer and verifying service records take up too much time and effort making the whole process miserable.

Nexon since the facelift costs more than a Ecosport. Especially the diesel.

Exactly!

New titanium diesel retails at 11.6 lakhs on road and equivalent Nexon XZ+ retails at 13.5 lakhs on road.

On top of the line variants , Nexon is still 50k more expensive than the overpriced S version of EcoSport.

Can't vote right now but would have definitely voted Yes. That 1.5L 3 cylinder engine is a gem add Ecosports build quality and handling and you have a perfect all round package

The eco sport is still the best handling sub-4m Suv and it's a pity that ford isn't updating it efficiently otherwise it would have given the Koreans run for their money .

You can't go wrong with Ecosport, go ahead eyes closed!

Re: Pre-worshipped car of the week : Buying a Used Ford EcoSport

Can't vote yet. Would have voted 'Yes' based on few conditions. If someone is owning a smaller hatch to drive around inside city (eg: Maruti or Hyundai) or bought it before gaining awareness of safety features or if someone is tight on budget, i would recommend buying a used top end EcoSport to use it as a highway cruiser. It is the most economic way to get a safer ride. It can efficiently handle the craters, waters, cows, dogs and idiots on road with nice brakes and the safety package. It comes with a good stock music system as well to enjoy the drive. I used to own a EcoSport and i still remember an incident on highway were a goods carrier which was carrying empty vegetable crates was driving in front of me. They had not tied the crates properly. One of it flew due to the high speed wind. I could stop the EcoSport with full control and confidence just inches away from were the crate landed. I am pretty sure that my i10 wouldn't have handled it.

I own a titanium 2018 Petrol Ecosport. Love the car to bits hence voted Yes.

But there is a one big factor you would need to consider before taking the plunge. The ride quality in the city can be quite harsh thanks to the stiff suspension. If you have elderly parents or someone with back problems, I would advise you to look elsewhere.

Say (hypothetically) if NGT tomorrow wakes up and decides to ban all diesels in pune, will that be also applicable to vehicles valid to run full 15 years, as per RC?

(sorry for off topic question)

If I am not wrong, such rules are applicable only for the cars that would be bought after announcement of rule. The same happened in Delhi NCR too. So seems safer in that regards as well.

Re: Pre-worshipped car of the week : Buying a Used Ford EcoSport

Voted No, because the new one is loaded and not that expensive, even after a hike of 3 lakhs from 2013. So I'd prefer buying new---and I just did last month.

However, if money was short, I'd certainly buy one that was manufactured after 2018---these ones have better interiors and a better grill and headlamps. The ride has also been made a bit compliant compared to the older versions. Only things missing are lumbar support (but the new front seats in the S trim are well-contoured) and reclining rear seats.

Re: Pre-worshipped car of the week : Buying a Used Ford EcoSport

In 2015 I had the Ecosport in my shortlist. Then I managed to get my hands on a Grand Vitara.
Now any replacement for the Grand Vitara must have atleast AWD. If Ford bring in the AWD model of the Ecosport I will change my mind in a flash. But otherwise it is a no now.
