Yes competition has hard plastics as well , but they go 'rounded' to minimise the apparentness. With the VW budget cars , you have straight lines , monochromatic textures and hard plastics , a combination of which isn't really appealing. It would take a mother to prefer a T-Roc interior (minus the screens) to a Seltos interior

Skoda Kushaq, VW Taigun to debut new infotainment system in India.

New Play infotainment system is feature-laden and will have several personalization options.

Play infotainment system jointly developed by Visteon and VW Brazil
Features a 10.1-inch screen as well as built-in apps
Gets a split-screen setup with connected car features

Quote:
The VW Play infotainment system made its debut on the Volkswagen Nivus four-door SUV coupe last year. Developed jointly by Volkswagen Brazil and automotive component maker Visteon, it features a 10.1-inch touchscreen that has a 1540x720 pixels resolution. The system also gets a split-screen setup and doubles as a rear-view camera monitor.

The Play system features a variety of downloadable applications globally, and for India, it will have built-in ones like Gaana.com, among others. It will also have user-defined profiles, offering a long list of personalisation options.

Live-streaming of music and audio podcasts via SIM-based internet access (likely to be an eSIM), along with in-car Wi-Fi, are also expected on the Play system in India. It will have a “Valet mode” where owners can block all details via a passcode before giving the vehicle to the valet. Connected vehicle tech and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be available as well.

While this system has been developed for Volkswagen SUVs, the Skoda Kushaq that was unveiled in India had a similar setup, which confirms that both SUVs from the Volkswagen Group are expected to come with this infotainment system.

VW has posted an ad in YouTube.
Looking at this ad, it seems that VW would be launching the Taigun in 2 variants, the regular and the Taigun GT. Obviously the regular one would have the Comfortline/Trendline/Highline trims. The latter will come with 1.5 TSI while the other one would have the 1.0 TSI.

This shade of yellow does look awesome in flesh. I have seen a TROC in this same shade which is parked in our apartment and it does look awesome. VW would keep the interiors a full black as compared to the beige interiors on the Kushaq. Looking forward to this one !

That Chrome though!!

The other car makers should consider distributing sunglasses during showroom delivery. You don't want to get blinded while driving when a VW Taigun appears in front of you.

Re: Volkswagen Taigun | A Close Look & Preview

For some reason, I actually prefer the look of the Taigun to the Kushaq. Or maybe I'm just getting tempted by the GT badge, either way I'm super excited to see the Germans get into the same ring as the Koreans.

TAIGUN spotted again. Branded as T CROSS for specific LHD markets?

It is also possible that VW India’s Pune plant is prepping to export the car under T-Cross branding to LHD emerging markets, and this is one example out of the trial production lot.

This could be the facelifted T-Cross for LHD markets.

For eg: China gets the Taigun look-alike in the name of T-Cross. Although some differences are there in terms of the exterior and interior like China-spec gets a panoramic sunroof and the rear fake quarter glass on the Taigun for India is not there in the China-spec model. Platforms could also be different between the India-spec and China-spec.

Re: Volkswagen Taigun | A Close Look & Preview

2 things I surmise from the attached preview video.

1. This Taigun rebranded as T-Cross for export markets maybe be targeted initially to Asian markets like Philippines (its also a left hand drive country).

2. The pricing (on Peso to INR conversion) for top model seems to be 18 Lakhs give or take. I believe this should be all inclusive for India and not Ex-showroom to make it competitive.

3. Export models have differentiated set of features or engine/transmission combo's so this is not a like to like comparison.

IMO, T Cross sounds like a better name for the car than Taigun. Sounds very chic and urban whereas the latter is likely to be mispronounced by many.

Agree it sounds better. Probably it wasn’t named T-Cross because of the previous ‘cross’ failures like the Polo cross, Etios cross etc. in the Indian market. Indian’s by now would have created a segment inside their mind which says Cross = failure. Our market priorities never made much sense anyway. Sales of these ‘Crosses’ were also disastrous just like their looks. Maybe Hyundai did good by not naming the i20 active as i20 cross. Again, Taigun and Tiguan is way too similar that it might even confuse the showroom staff.

Moreover by naming it T-Cross, the overall idea and general population perception of an SUV is dead. In India market, naming it T-Cross would have been suicidal.

Taigun makes sense. Similar names though confusing will get clearer with time but similar names have a better top of mind recall for overall VW SUV portfolio. The confusion leads to more research and a topic to discuss among prospective buyers which is anyways good for VW.

From the names T-Roc and T-cross it appears that VW had run out of names for their SUVs and Crossovers. I definitely prefer Taigun to T- Cross.

Re: Volkswagen Taigun | A Close Look & Preview

I was going through the interior pictures and noticed something new.

Isn't that a Lane keep assist icon? This must be a segment-first feature, isn't it?
