Hopefully Hyundai plays it well and accelerate the launch of next generation Tucson. Suddenly the current generation Tucson HTRAC with discounts seems value for money even with some aged interiors and of course a better Hyundai ASS experience and coverage. As you rightly pointed out, ~20% road tax in Bangalore for this price bracket, suddenly makes some of these cars really expensive.

So the 32L ex showroom should hardly come as a surprise to anyone given the prices of cars these days.
Even in 2017 the Tiguan could be had for discounts up to 3L in Pune! It was overpriced then and was sold in low numbers. Hence, a mere facelift at 32L doesn't make much sense even now.

Re: VW to launch Tiguan 5-seater SUV in 2021

If I remember right, the 7 seater CBU Tiguan Allspace was 34 lakhs ex-showroom. Now a locally assembled 5 seater is 32 lakhs ex-showroom. They have priced it higher than the diesel Citroen C5 Aircross. I was expecting Tiguan to sell in double digits after the initial honeymoon period, but looks like Volkswagen will now have to look forward to single digit sales figures only. We need to find new words in the dictionary to describe Volkswagen's marketing strategy .

Yes but the Compass S model which is diesel, 9 speed AT, AWD, 170BHP with all the features you can imagine including an Alpine system with subwoofer, pano sunroof and more is 3L lesser.

The newer and nicer interiors brings the Compass much closer to the Tiguan than before.

Yes but in 2017 sales were down, market was flooded there was no COVID, there was no chip shortage, there was no supply chain issues and there wasn't a crazy demand for SUV's.

The market is changed now and as the saying goes, make hay while the sun shines.

Toyota has jacked up the Fortuner to 50L, Mahindra is selling the XUV700 at almost 30L for the range topping one and Tata is selling the Safari at 28L.

For VW to bring in the Tiguan at almost same price as 2017 car is itself a feat going by the track record.

I'm not justifying the price but merely pointing out that this is the trend and expected in today's day.

Re: VW to launch Tiguan 5-seater SUV in 2021

Whoa! So much for going aggressive in pricing

Ex showroom to Ex showroom (without discounts) there is a 2.7L price gap between Octavia L&K and the Tiguan. The gap will widen considering discounts (surely) for Octavia and none for Tiguan.

While 4 Motion is something I consider as a basis for a premium over the Octavia, it is too steep the way it stands now.

Re: VW to launch Tiguan 5-seater SUV in 2021

Wouldn't someone just pick the X1 over this? X1 starts at 39.5L and ofcourse discounts will be available. I would assume the gap between Tiguan & X1 (base variant) would end up being between 4-5L. Is the AWD the only plus over the X1?

Re: VW to launch Tiguan 5-seater SUV in 2021

Any news on the audio (Fender/HK) and a subwoofer?

Which one is more fun and engaging to drive? The Compass or the Tiguan? (assuming that won't change with this facelift and keeping the stiff ride aside)

Roughly how much price should we attribute to AWD? I don't need it, but there isn't a variant without it.

Re: VW to launch Tiguan 5-seater SUV in 2021

I think VW is following suit all other OEMs on increased prices. The Citroen was selling around 100 units a month and the Compass at around 1000 units. An aggressive pricing could have led to some market share in this segment. But then, this sets it up nicely for the Kodiaq to be priced at early to mid 40 lakhs.

I am not sure why folks are surprised at the pricing. It is a flagship vehicle & this is how VW operates on premium branding. The current environment every manufacturer has hiked the prices and supply demand has it’s own part to play.

I was expecting 2 variant’s which VW seems to have skipped. Could be a launch at future date once semiconductor shortage eases out. This would have given different price points for entry. Octavia strategy with 2 variants is working well for them.

With on road hitting 35L+ including insurance it’s for the brand enthusiast and early movers. Only saviour to soften pinch on the pocket would be if one can get BH registered.

These are introductory prices. Manufacturer’s are increasing prices and passing almost the same as discounts later. VW will follow the same strategy.

I was looking forward for this one but best time to pick this one would be 6-9 months down the line once decent discounts roll in. VW & Audi always have been generous in this department lol. They very well know nothing attracts the customer more than the word discounts

Purely from a product perspective it has its strengths and would appeal to folks.

Re: VW to launch Tiguan 5-seater SUV in 2021

Crazy pricing, though expected, I was hoping they will keep it at 29.99 as introductory pricing. This will breach 40 OTR in Bangalore, good luck to VW to sell more then 50 of these a month.

Brochure attached.

Bmw X1 was at 30L ex showroom in 2017 for a base diesel and now its at 39 ex showroom for a petrol base model.(effectively 10 lac increase) . This is for "just a facelift "

There has been a sea change in the market in terms of pricing after 2019, there's no other way to put it.

Re: VW to launch Tiguan 5-seater SUV in 2021

Quite good pricing in my view - exactly where I expected it given pricing of the Superb and Octavia. We forget that ₹32 l is just USD 42 k - and I paid more than that ex showroom for my Superb in 2010.

Of course discounts will come in at some point - but they may not be as sharp as usual given the chip shortage which will prevent them from importing kits they can’t sell. 100-150 units per month should be very possible here - could even get to 250 if they are lucky.

Re: VW to launch Tiguan 5-seater SUV in 2021

Nothing surprising in the pricing. This was always expected and that’s what I mentioned in couple of my earlier posts that Tiguan will be couple of lakhs over Octavia.
I would still buy this over Compass for more space, more or less same driving dynamics (based on my earlier driving experience) and much better engine in petrol and better gearbox. Main grouse is no diesel and this segment definitely needs diesel without which it will not see much numbers.
