The seats are a straight lift from the Polo/Vento, just with a different cover. The gear nobs, handbrake lever also look the same. Hope that armrest is adjustable, else it will be close to useless. Overall, the interiors are bland and boring! Except for the 1.5 TSI and the GC, I don't think this car is an upgrade for a Vento/Rapid owner like me.

Re: Skoda Kushaq | A Close Look & Preview

I feel like no rear discs with the top variant projected to touch the 16-17L mark is quite a miss.

Looks like the marketing department of SkodaVW hired quite a few people from Hyundai's unit recently. The fairly cheesy emphasis on piano black fender garnish, calling plastic snap-ons as "armour" etc are very unlike SkodaVW and very like Hyundai of recent times .

Re: Skoda Kushaq | A Close Look & Preview

Controversial opinion for the forum, but very non controversial outside.

After a looong time I like how a new VAG car looks like in India. I find the usual "timeless classic look" describing most of the older launches (which are decades old in styling terms) a case of the Emperor wears no clothes syndrome personally.

The Kushaq though looks fresh, and while usually I never shortlist a VAG car in my shortlist (because of how old and boring IMHO they all look), this would be a definite shortlist and based on pricing a solid pick.

Like the Magnite, am predicting a massive price cut compared to the regular VAG pricing strategy and just like the Magnite, I feel this will single handedly revive Skoda's fortunes in India. At least for the first 6-9 months expecting the top end 1.5 to come in at around 22-23 L on road. While it would be slightly more expensive than the Korean twins, it will set the market aflutter.

Thanks, one more reply from Zac on DSG warranty. Hopefully, the process will be straightforward now.

This is not a controversial post, but rather a contradictory one.

On one hand you are predicting a "Massive price cut over regular VAG Pricing", by comparing it with Magnite's pricing (which undercuts the Korean twins in it's segment by close to 4 lakhs), but on the other hand you expect the top end 1.5 to come at 22-23L On road. Seltos and Creta undercut Kushaq with your predicted pricing by about 1.5-2.5L.

This is something I am still unsure off. Primary reasons-

1) Skoda's rumored prices wherein they aim to price it at the similar prices of Creta/Seltos.
2) SKODA and their ASS image in the market
3) Lack of Diesel engine options (The korean's even provide competent Diesel AT's)
4) Lack of equipment and active/passive safety features compared to the Korean twins
5) Lack of exterior road presence (matters a lot for those looking for "badi gaadi")

Sure the performance and handling should be better than Koreans as should the build quality, and that should please the enthusiasts. But for the larger market, this doesn't seem too exciting.

Unless priced aggressively, I see Kushaq facing a tough time.

Can you please elaborate on this? This is when you are comparing to a car which barely got 3 stars in GNCAP crash test.

My thought's were inline comparing the active and passive safety features (edited the same above). Not the build quality (which I am sure Skoda will triumph). From what I read in the beginning of the thread, Hill Hold, TPMS, Rain Sensing Wipers etc are part of optional pack. Lack of rear disc is another omission.

Booked it

Finally booked Kushaq by paying 35000/- to the local dealer (small sales outlet).

Booked Variant: 1.0 TSI Manual Active
Colour: Carbon steel

Final decision on variant and colour will be taken on 28th after the official announcement ( Active/ Ambition, manual/auto). Mine is the 5th booking at this dealer.

Waiting patiently for the price reveal. (or Honda City as you too suggested, if they over price it).
