Re: Procedure of renewing vehicle registration at the 15-year mark | It's easier than you think

I am on a roll with FC renewal. My 2nd time in last 3 weeks and 3rd time overall, doing it on my own.

Location: KA53

I inadvertently went to KA01 at HSR layout. I had also applied for address change along with DRC. Since new address comes under KA53, I was told to go there.

I had already paid online, submitted the documents online. At KA53, you first have to go to the first toom on the left, ground floor. The lady who sits near the window will check if documents are in order, sign the paper and direct you to further counter(s) as per the work thats needed to be done.

I had to get an affidavit for the DRC and that took me an hour as i had to go to the nearest registrar office, find a notary etc. This affidavit business is not mentioned officially in parivahan portal. its just random

The renewal inspection happened in the basement and my bike was the last one for the day at 130pm. The inspector then returned to his office at 330 pm and signed the form. After that i submitted it in the same room where this process started. They have an acknowledgement unlike at KA03 where they just put a stamp on my PUC as an acknowledgement.

The fees you stated (Rs 5K + GST?) is per year? Or lifetime beyond 15 years (meaning no re-registration needed after 16 yrs, 17 yrs, etc each time paying 5K + tax)?

A friend needs a reliable agent for his Honda Activa FC renewal at KA01 (Koramangala RTO). Please share the contact if you know anyone.

I have recently got the i20 RC renewal done in Kolkata.
The vehicle was sent to RTO for inspection and I have received the new RC with updated validity upto 2030.
However, the agent is asking me to pay Road tax for 5 Years which is whooping 26k

Is the rule different for different states?
I had done RC renewal in Mumbai and had only paid Green Tax which was about 5k. Have I missed out on paying the Road Tax in Mumbai? Or is Green tax same as Road Tax

Yes, rules for tax differ state wise.

However, if you have already received the renewed RC, then I don't understand how it was renewed in first place without road tax payment if the tax is indeed payable in your case. So, if the RC is already renewed, no tax should ideally be due.

Thanks.

In Maharashtra you only need to pay Green Tax as Life time Road Tax is already paid.

In West Bengal Road tax paid was for 10 Yrs only . Hence, you need to pay additional Road Tax for 5 years on completion of 10 Yrs. On completion of 15 Yrs you need to do a fitness test and the pay Road Tax as well for next 5 Years (no green tax).

All good, but how did you receive the RC with extended validity if anything to the RTO was due

Was the i20 registered in Kolkata RTO originally? Which RT in Kolkata are we talking about here? Also you can check the existing tax certificate to see if it had expired. I am shocked to know that you have got the RC while the car was in Tax fail status.

All that you have to do, is bring the vehicle clean and neat on the day of inspection, and you are done.
I have a question.

My vehicle has a couple of deep scratches (not a dent) but the paint is scratched off. This from a cyclist that decided to crash into my parked car. On the driver rear side of the door. Should I get this re-painted before the inspection? It is a 15 year old Tata Manza. It still drives great and is now a spare option for the household. And hence I am reluctant to spend a lot on it (specially) on the body.
Could you let me know if the scratches are an issue during the re-registration inspection?

Mostly, it shouldn't matter. But you never know, this all depends on the whims and fancies of the inspector present on the day. Most of them look for working lights, and overall fit and shape of the vehicle. If it is in Jayanagar RTO, the driver rear side door will not be visible for the inspector, unless they circle the vehicle.

Is HRSP plate mandatory for getting RC renewal from Tamil Nadu. If so can anyone provide the process as the HRSP website does not list TN.

Tip: Inspection time seems to have changed to 1230 but i cant say for sure. in any case, visit RTO at 11pm and get the counter thing done at 2nd floor and you should be done by 2 pmish.

Thanks to both of you for very detailed step-by-step explanation.
I got RC renewal of my soon-to-be 15-year old Activa done yesterday (1st Feb 2025) at KA03 RTO, Kasturinagar. Also applied for address change in RC card.

Started my online application on 26th Jan through Vaahan portal.
Did my offline visit yesterday. Everything done within 2-3 hours. Total cost of RC renewal plus address change was Rs.2262.
All your points were very helpful, including the one about knowledge of Kannada in dealing with the officials

Once again a big thanks to both of you

Anybody else looking for renewal, particularly at KA03 RTO, should simply bookmark your posts and follow them. There is absolutely no need to avail help of middlemen/agents.
