re: Made-in-India Jeep Wrangler, now launched at Rs. 53.90 lakh

Jeep's pricing strategy may be 'Pay thrice the price of a Thar and get a real Jeep'. 45L Sounds so sweet!

re: Made-in-India Jeep Wrangler, now launched at Rs. 53.90 lakh

53,90 is what they announced for unlimited, could not hear for Rubicon though. More on expected lines. So, the hype they created everywhere will just get them some viewership and no actual buyers. Will interest to find what are the differences over CBU.

CKD looses

1 Heated Seats
2 Remote Start
3 Sub-woofer

Am not sure yet what will they gain by removing just the sub and is it possible to fit the same as an OE accessory or the audio system is different?

Fair as a manufacturer passing the benefit, but will help them get any additional numbers? No

This reduction won't help most people who are shopping in Fortuner/ Endeavour segment, but for somebody who wants an exclusive weekender, it becomes a little more compelling.

Another bummer seems to be very high handling charges - 1,18 Lac here in Chandigarh

Around 10 lakhs cheaper ex-showroom than the earlier CBU models?

Rubicon is priced at 57.90, around 12 Lakh less compared to CBU price. Not bad, but it will hardly push any volumes for Jeep India.

re: Made-in-India Jeep Wrangler, now launched at Rs. 53.90 lakh

Decent price drop for both the Unlimited and Rubicon variants for the CBU to CKD conversion. The only power mill available is the 2.0 L turbocharged petrol which does 268 hp and has a peak torque output of 400 Nm. Wish they had plonked in a bigger engine on the Wrangler.
Nearly all of the Fortuner/Endeavour buyers opt for diesel, the latter does not have a petrol variant. So anyways the Wrangler was not eating into these 2 SUV's sales. They have priced it a good 30 % higher than the top variant of the Fortuner. The Wrangler is being positioned more as a luxury lifestyle product by Jeep, which is fine. I don't think Stellantis would be anyways be looking at major volumes with the Wrangler.
Also people who want a true blue Jeep can get a cheaper look alike for a quarter the price anyways .

In Canada, the lower variants get 8 speakers and the premium alpine system is optional. The only difference though is the subwoofer which counts as the 9th speaker. So, I think it is the same system.

In Canada there are 3 Variants for the U-Connect -

5 Inch
7 Inch
8,4 Inch

and option to Add Premium Alpine, what we get is 8,4 as well Premium Alpine but I don't see an option without subwoofer anywhere overseas with Premium Alpine.

The new pricing may not push huge volumes for jeep, but the increased volumes will definitely do good for the brand image here when the halo product becomes more visible on the roads as compared to seeing maybe 1 wrangler in a month on the road.

Here's the brochure for CKD -2021.

It does not say anything about Audio, most likely it implies they have taken off the Alpine Premium Audio altogether.

re: Made-in-India Jeep Wrangler, now launched at Rs. 53.90 lakh

I am always intrigued by the strategy of companies like Jeep who play on the fringes only with minimum models on offer.

What would you achieve by making the Wrangler through CKD in India. If they are looking for numbers, they need to price it into the Endeavour Fortuner category, which clearly they have not. If they want this to be treated as luxury, it goes against entry SUVs of marquee brands. Not sure if it holds ground there.

As far as brand image is concerned, how much does a low mover wrangler impact sales of compass on the lower end or Grand Cherokee on the higher end.

So what's the logic. Can they export a CKD asembled from India thereby saving cost?

Quoting my own post, price is similar to what I had posted but still sticking with 2.0L engine is not very ambitious of Jeep. I saw the sales figures posted on TBHP and it was the lucky number 7. Let's see if they are able to pull it to double digits.
I was wrong in assuming that FCA will price it competitive.

I had checked this on varous Jeep Wrangler forums. The only difference between the the premium alpine system and standard audio system is the subwoofer.

Agree! The Wrangler still falls in "no man's land" with this change. Pricing-wise, an Endeavour/Fortuner buyer would not be willing/able to "stretch" this much. If they are taking on the X3 and GLC, it is a lost battle from the word "GO". Volume-wise, they have sold 7 vehicles in the last 6 months, and I suspect that these could be test-drive vehicles billed to dealerships Not sure what Jeep is trying to achieve here.

I guess "Make in India" could be a part of their broader rationalization strategy and they are trying to gain whatever tertiary advantage they can, out of it (read, increase sales volumes from an average of 1 per month to 2 per month)! I can't think of any other explanation.

On a lighter note, with this kind of money, I can buy 5 Thar's across multiple color/engine/transmission/top configurations and be happy!
