Re: Which Indian cars have the best resale value?

Based on my experience, you can ask other 3rd party buyers to evaluate the car (Cars24, Spinny, OLX, Car Dekho etc.) and find the best quote among them. Having the best quote in hand you can talk to Skoda and if they are not ok you can sell to the 3rd party who gave the best value.

Re: Which Indian cars have the best resale value?

There are multiple factors:-

a) Sales - Cars which are popular in the new car market are also popular in the used car market. Higher the new car volume, better the resale value.

b) Transmission - Manual transmission attracts lower depreciation vis-a-vis Automatics.

c) Fuel type - CNG and Diesel (except NCR) would have a better resale value vs Petrol due to significantly lower cost of operation.

c) Last recorded price - People often make the mistake of indexing used car price to the price of the vehicle when it was purchased. Data however shows that used cars are actually available at a discount to the last recorded price of the vehicle. So manufacturers who routinely increase prices of new cars do a huge favor to their existing customers as they drive up resale value.

So there you have it. High volumes + Manual + Diesel + Continuous price increases = Innova.

Re: Which Indian cars have the best resale value?

Take any Maruti Suzuki vehicle. They will not depreciate. Even the low selling Ritz, A-star and Sx4 1.6 are available at not so bad prices today.

I have also observed that any type of vehicle for which the demand increases in the market for a short span of time will increase its resale price. At a time when hatchbacks were selling hot like Parle G biscuits (not pancakes since we, the Indians don't eat pancakes much), almost any hatchback would be sold at a premium.

Now that the market has shifted to C-SUV and Mini-SUV, check almost any SUV on offer. They are in the market for a premium that what we should actually pay for them.

However, IMO Ertiga in peculiar has one of the best resale value among the <10L market across segments (not considering the niche enthusiast market). It definitely stems from its reliability, the practicality it has on offer and easy to drive nature.
