Re: Volkswagen Taigun spied testing in India

The Skoda Kushaq and VW Taigun seem to have the same windows, window line and rear gloss effect at the ending (fake quarter glass).

Rather I’ll go on to say that the top half of both the cars are exactly same! Look at the creases on the door, the Skoda badge location on the fender, spoiler and C-pillar.

Re: Volkswagen Taigun spied testing in India

Now speculated to be more premium than its sibling Kushaq, the SUV is spied doing its final round of testing .

Expect to see the wide grille flanked by LED headlamps, boxy profile with machine-cut alloy wheels, and a LED taillights at the rear.

The cabin will sport the Virtual Cockpit, a large touchscreen infotainment system with connected car technology, and lots of storage space options. Other elements like roof rails, skid plate, the black cladding will grace the exterior, while the cabin will find a leather-wrapped steering wheel and upholstery, soft-touch materials, climate control rear AC vents and more.

Can you or someone please help me understand how does this 1 week embargo help Taigun or VAG ? Why can't they let the information / pictures come out as part of the event itself ? Is there any possibility that they are looking at acting on any feedback they may receive and make any changes ? I guess this is also not the case as this is already a production ready version.

As some folks have mentioned, this baby step process of unveil having unnecessary monthly events with actual launch around 5-6months later just makes no sense to me whatsoever.

Looking forward to 31st for more details and hopefully from that day onwards this thread will also catch fire as currently happening with Kushaq thread.

It's just so that no one media house/influencer/community run outlet like ours is given an undue advantage in being the first to get out it's impressions/review.

The ones who got to look at and feel the car on 24th can release their first impressions within hours but then the others who review the same object and put out the same type of content few days later will never get the same amount of exposure.

If Skoda Kushaq is priced at par with Korean sisters and then VW is thinking to price Taigun premium than Kushaq then there will be no reason to buy Taigun as it will become too much pricier to either justify its size or performance.

This is pure data science applied in marketing. If you do a quick analysis of the period between the initial unveil of the production model to the actual launch date with full price announcement, I bet one would find the overall media coverage (number of times the car is mentioned in mainstream and auto press outlets, the number of youtube/facebook/insta/twitter items posted about the car, the number of TV Auto program mentions, etc.) would be proportionate to the time between initial unveil and full launch. So longer the time, the higher the aggregate number of mentions and correspondingly eyeballs.

So the full launch date is fixed, as it is determined by your production readiness, dealer readiness and procurement lead times. What you can change easily is how far back you start generating buzz. So Mahindra decided to rewind 2.5 month for the Thar (unveil on August 15, full launch on October 2nd). VW is deciding to rewind almost 6 months, assuming a festive season launch for the Taigun. There is no additional cost to rewind a few months more and you get free additional eyeballs and mentions that build anticipation and set the car up for success. Of course, there is a limit beyond which this strategy is counterproductive, as people “give up” on the car, the punch is lost as it starts feeling like old wine. But manufacturers do not know where this limit is yet, and they are experimenting by pushing the timeline out longer and longer.

Well it seems that is how it is nowadays. I have another example albeit from the film industry. Nowadays certain high profile mainstream movie makers (largely south) are keeping fans involved throughout the duration of the production, ie from signing the film to release. They do this by constantly adding updates on social media at a regular basis. This is unlike earlier where there used to be one "poster release" followed by actual film promotion 1 to 2 months closer to release.

Lets see how this fares out in the automotive industry. However I feel this strategy will be limited to very important launches and not every other launch. Positively, what this approach does is confuses the buyers who do not have an urgent requirement. I'm sure many have put purchase plans on hold awaiting the Kushaqs launch. Now for people not satisfied with the Kushaqs feature list, VW showcases the Taigun.

Now given the waiting periods for new cars anyway due to demand or part shortage or whatever. The idea would be if
I am anyway waiting 2 months for delivery, might as well wait this the price announcement of "x" car. People don't buy cars every year (mostly) this is just to create anxiety in prospective customers.
